smells the cypress

delicious

1. Juice thought it would be funny to eat me in Paranormal 26 and I'm a petty bastard.
2. Because Juice joked in pre-game about being sniped as scum N0 and I thought it would be funny to vote with that in mind.
3. Because no question I ask would ever be as interesting as no question at all.

I'm going to leave my vote where it is for now because of your passiveness. None of this sounds very pro-town. Help hunt scum and we'll talk.

@Jim Groovester:
Where's Sigma? Do you think you'll survive Day 1 and Night 1? Which one is more likely and why?

@dolores:
Do you think you have a chance of winning this game? Do you think you'll survive to the end as well?

Can you speak to why half your questions refer to survival, Toony?

How cunning indeed. A dastardly plan! I'm onto you, IcyTea31!

Does the place you put your vote mean nothing to you? How are you going to pressure me if all it takes is the antics of a self-voter?

3. Vector works for me. Do you think day gameplay will have a greater, lesser, or average impact on the end result of the game compared to, say, a vanilla setup?

Rolefishing, in Wubba's BYOR?! Already?

I mostly rely on my day game regardless of setup. I'm agnostic on whether the whackadoodle setup will result in confusion or enlightenment after night phases. Probably both.

Everyone: Why am I self-voting?
Cos you don't really know people's meta, the fossil players are more likely to give strong reactions to this kind of uncreative RVS drudgery, you're too lazy(/tired) to write something more useful, and you don't think/know I'll be taking up the space with some edgy 'gambit' shit with particularly high confidence so the space was likely going underutilized.
And why aren't you voting?
Several reasons.
Meta:
between trying to sleep and getting up when the game was about to start and just staying up, I chose to just stay up. The game was delayed 5hrs and I'm still here so I opted to have a shower and make some coffee etc. before launching into RVS. However, failing to ask 4mask that question would leave the opportunity that I wouldn't have his response to it in the case that I did want to vote him. I got the chance to see how to proceed with 4maskwolf for now and to tackle everyone else in RVS because:
Gameplay:
It's harder to lynch people if you vote them and don't remove the vote, especially on D1 and in cloudy setups like this where people aren't entirely sure what they want, because it softens the dynamics of your wagon and makes it harder to actually recruit votes to the actually lynching someone part of the pressure/wagon/case. Since you're implying that you believe in pressure by this line of questioning, you must agree that at least being able to threaten a realistic lynch is necessary for the pressure to infact mean anything.
Player Meta:
However, unlike you 4maskwolf knows I'm going to be unpleasantly active and post a whole lot and so also knows that if I vote for them it won't mean anything because I'll very likely move the vote in the very next post, maybe before any other players have made any voting posts, so they'll know that the vote doesn't represent real lynching pressure. I don't really believe in pressure personally, but whether or not 4mask does they probably wouldn't believe in the reality of that vote as pressure. Since I'd prefer to not vote for them even before RVS if I might actually want to lynch them latter this phase I obviously didn't vote for them there.
What I have gotten out of this though, is 4maskwolf's confident/arrogant response, which is a good response. +towncred, better than nothing
@dolores:
Do you think you have a chance of winning this game? Do you think you'll survive to the end as well?
Yes. I'm the best player here and I'm probably the least likely to get screwed out of having access to the vanilla town wincon, so I expect that wincon is more likely than not to come to fruition, even if substantial portions of the rest of town lose access to it.
Not especially. There's a good chance that I die to something semi-global that bypasses my ability, and I'm less likely to get around that than others. I'm not going to get lynched outside of mechanical (cult victory, vote manipulation, the rest of town dying etc.) reasons though, if that's what you meant.

Responses above, RVS to come in another post.

Well yes, my vote means nothing to me right now because it's the RVS stage. I can vote you again, Vector. I can unvote. I can then vote Caz! Or vote juicebox!

We all know it's going to end up on whoever looks the scummiest, in the end. But right now, it doesn't matter.

So honestly I can't pressure you with my vote.

I'll just have to pressure you with questions and French fries, instead.

Vector:
1: What do you think of IcyTea31's self-voting?
2: What do you think of my inconsistent voting?
3: Is vote manipulation a scary ability?
4: Are you going to answer all these questions?
5: Do you feel pressured by the threat of giving you French fries?
6: Is it remotely reasonable of me to ask you 21 questions?
7: Do you think I'm going to ask you 21 questions?
8: Do you think I'm mafia, town, or third party, or not sure yet?
9: Do you like Brussel's sprouts?
10: What previous games run by Webadict do you think will be most similar to this one?
11: What about other mafia mods?
12: Is RVS a form of 'drudgery'?
13: What're your hit points at?
14: How much does a vote mean compared to a finger of suspicion in the early game, such as right now?
15: Are you responsible for 'Leave Comment'?
16: Are you at all likely to answer that question accurately?
17: What do you think of these questions? Which is most likely to help root out scum? (I'm genuinely curious)
18: If you like Brussel's sprouts, do you like sweet potatoes? If not, do you think dolores is a good choice to vote?
19: Really, are there any good choices to vote?
20: This question intentionally left blank. (I was considering asking you 100 questions, but this seems more reasonable)

Or it's a double-ruse and he's definitely definitely a Jester. How cunning.
How do you intend to ascertain whether or not I'm a jester? Will you need a different technique to ascertain whether or not I'm town, and if yes, which of the techniques is of higher priority to you?

Good response. I haven't read any of your games and am looking forward to learning more about you as a player.

I don't agree that threatening a realistic lynch is necessary for the pressure to mean anything. Psychological pressure can come from all kinds of places, such as the alarm people feel sometimes when seeing their name written in red, early-game bandwagons that can form over practically nothing, playing with someone you don't know very well, or on the contrary, playing with someone you do know very well. It's really all about what makes a person, and their anxieties and hangups, tick.

Alternatively, I imagine it's pretty stressful to be the best player here. Lots of performance anxiety -- or not. Ah, to be above it all while all the rest of us are doing work and chewing ass. It was pretty hard on Webadict! I look forward to your inevitable slide to moderation. Maybe then we could run more than one game at a time.

I've always this entire time thought that jim was Grovester, like a bush or something.
dolores: If FoU died and flipped town, would you use your revive on him? In other words, how much do you trust flips?
I wouldn't burn something like that on FoU unless I specifically needed the vote for lylo or something because I'd prefer to wait a day and risk dying/losing the revive etc. and revive a better (town) player instead.
I'm not going to pay attention to flips at all though really, except maybe for trying to solve the setup by counting my chickens with revived players etc. I'm not really hunting for scum by finding groups of players or anything and don't really consider the alignment of one player to have that much relevance to the alignment of others (outside of mechanical relevance). I'm town, so so long as I'm alive (and I probably can't do much otherwise) as long as all hostile factions are wiped out the more dead players the better really since it removes more elements of wiggle room that might disrupt the wincon firing.

notquitethere|NJW2000: thoughts on how you think the stronger players who haven't played in a long time and are likely unfamiliar with the meta that's been going on with ICT/4mask/etc. are going to react, any particular thoughts you feel would be important to point out to me to play around?

@Caz:
I'm already confused by my role ;_;
I think you're playing dumb. Why act incompetent unless you're anti-town?
I disagree, I think Caz is just anti-town on a meta level right now. Their responses are so guilelessly useless it doesn't seem scummy at all.
ToonyMan: do you think Caz is scummy or just not-towny?

4maskwolf: gonna give a more substantive RVS attempt or just sit there acquiring heat from vector until someone decides it's time to swoop in and join the wagon and have it be too late for you to dig yourself out of the hole? Seen anything scummy so far, since you're being so reserved and auto-reactionary?

TricMagic: gonna join us in the game at any point or you gonna keep pretending this is a bastard mod?

Leafsnail: I've got it on good authority (my own) that there are wincons in this game besides basic factional ones. How important do you think semi-bastard strats like converting everyone to the same cult and having a huge group/all players win together are likely to be in the game?

Vector

For reference, the last time I played here was KotM7, where IcyTea whipped my ass and was definitely the best player in that game (imo).
What are you hoping to accomplish by this response? Are you just noting your opinion on me with regards to towniness to support your later statements about me in e.g. reads lists? I'm not really seeing any game benefits from it other than that, and that kind of self-indulgent covering your own ass doesn't really scream a town play to me either.

They say looking at a trick too hard spoils it.  Revealing the trick definitely spoils it.

Also, just because I'm technically online on B12 doesn't mean I'm following the game or actively posting, I was enjoying a nice relaxing game of Long War 2.

I don't have anything further to say until later, probably tomorrow.

No, you actively posting in the game in (direct, quoted) response to things happening in the game means you're following the game and actively (lurking).
You're really just gonna say that you'll be intentionally inactive, but you're also gonna take the time to go out of your way to go into the thread to say that? What are you hoping to accomplish?

Well, this is awkward. It looks like you're insulting my skills as a player of the game.

Your insults are entirely accurate. Carry on.

FallacyofUrist: any particular reason to pad so much fluff into your response to vector, given that you're not really chasing up anyone else at the same time?

You know, it's my meta. I always tunnel vision in on single players.

More seriously, I'm going to get more information out of grilling a single player intensely than grilling many players lightly.

As for the hypothetical third option of 'grilling many players intensely', do you really think I have the brain space to write 20 questions for every player?

I would pressure you with fries, but I can't. Curse your stupid invincibility.

4maskwolf: gonna give a more substantive RVS attempt or just sit there acquiring heat from vector until someone decides it's time to swoop in and join the wagon and have it be too late for you to dig yourself out of the hole? Evil treacherous scummy scum! I'll have your head for this! 4maskwolf!

Post more or I'll give you French fries! (Posting more tomorrow is totally fine though)

Spoiler: FoU Megapost (click to show/hide)

What a massive waste of fucking time. I'm going to respond to some of your questions. Starting with 2, 4 and 17: I think you should focus on being efficient.

I don't consider RVS drudgery. We've more or less already left it. I don't have any opinions on IcyTea yet. I have seen many self-voters come and go in my time. I'm more interested in what people do around IcyTea.

All abilities are more or less scary depending on the wielder. I don't have an alignment read on you yet, that would be irresponsible given the evidence and my long absence.

I, local fossil, haven't played a game here recently enough to be able to give a reference that will make sense regarding similar games. The game seems to have some DNA from Kill Webadict Now and I'm guessing there's a reasonable chance that he's going to indulge in some sparring back and forth with Meph.

I wouldn't vote Dolores at this point, no. Their grandstanding is too fun and they clearly need some time to get rolling (oops, ninja'ed! There it is!).

And no, I don't feel pressured, by, uh, anything. What brings pressure isn't the act of voting or FoSing or acting random and offering people food or asking one question over another. It's the person behind all that, the person who is thinking and deciding. That person and their motivation is what makes one move better or more meaningful than another.

I'm aware I didn't answer some of your questions. Honestly, I skimmed. If you want more answered, I can get back to you.

[1]: Valid.

[2]: What makes you say we've already left the RVS stage entirely?

[3]: But isn't vote manipulation nastier since it can potentially remove or weaken the town's ability to use its numerical advantage over the anti-town?

[4]: Days of yore reference much? Heh. Better question then, how do you think the game veterans are going to read the newer and less experienced players?

[5]: And what would make dolores a good choice to vote?

[6]: The metaphorical eyes of the French fries god looking down on your mortal flesh?

[7]: I mainly asked so many to see how you'd respond to a poke of that magnitude. Response noted.
