First, a caveat that some don't like. The Ultima Adventures game folder needs to be DIRECTLY in "C" drive. You can mess with the directories and some have (not sure if they were successful or not), but I think its a lot of work and messes a lot of things up if not done properly.

Now onto Ultima Adventures. A fork of something called Ultima Odyssey (which turned into...Ultima Adventures, and then there is another offline/shared experience fork of Odyssey called Riches and Ruins, which is more like vanilla UO with a little bit of custom stuff, but does have playable monsters, its good as well but not the focus of this thread)

https://www.servuo.com/archive/ultima-adventures-a-full-featured-content-packed-offline-online-server.1374/

It is a fully custom Ultima experience, where you can play offline (your own server) or join FinalTwist's shard and have a shared experience. I highly recommend joining their discord server if want to at least check it out, as get a lot more help and interaction there.

here is the link to their discord https://discord.gg/EFYM5uDGQa )

Everyone keeps to themselves on the shard and its griefing/PVP free (PvP is against the rules, but I believe if both parties agree to it then that is fine).

There are however "red" NPCs that replicate the pvp experience found in (classic) UO and there are a lot of things that remind me of Ultima 4. There are children, lots of npcs in the world and some are so believable that I've had a conversation with one only to realize it was just an NPC lol.

A lot of random stuff happens in the world, and it IS very difficult early on. Expect to die a lot, especially if not careful, but its very rewarding and there is so much content to do and discover. There is no guides though, have to read books to discover new lands and figure out quests (mostly) for yourself. On discord they do help out a bit though.

On the server (I think offline too?) there are custom homes you can buy (or rent). You can live in an inn if any inn room is available to rent, you can live in certain cities. Or build your own house (which takes wood planks+nails+a bit of gold).

There is also a balance between good (and evil), both offline/online, and currently as of this post, evil is winning very easily. Which you can choose an "easy" mode of play where you can still slightly effect balance (very very little) but you don't lose skills or stats when you die (but with a lower stat cap). At the tutorial, if you answer yes (first one always has to be yes or you end up in purgatory and can't ever get out until make a new character), no, no, then you've activated easy mode. If you do yes, yes, no...then you become an avatar of balance., but lose skills which you die and there are also some other difficulties associated with it

There is also a very special feature in Ultima Adventures called soulbound. Its a rogue-lite system where if you do (yes, yes, yes) this route, whenever you die, you are reborn as a brand new character (but it starts with a random skill set/(class) and stats that associate with that class/build and starting items for it. Its a much more dangerous route, but you effect the balance far more. However you do get soulforce as a soulbound, which lets you buy various "essences" that give you bonuses depending what essence you get, and these essences (and soulforce) stay with you no matter how many times you die. Eventually a soulbound can be on par with an endgame "normal" character. Item bonuses however do not effect soulbound, so if you get a sword with +5 int, +1 hp regen for example none of that effects a soulbound.

With all that out of the way. Here is a copy/paste of what features are included from the serv UO link

Other Changes to the original Odyssey:
- three ways to play, restricted (easy mode), unrestricted (influence the world but with real death penalty), and soulbound (hard roguelike/ironman with permadeath but legacy elements)
- simulated pvp : encounter red pks with advanced AI and fight of flee, or join them
- a brand new land populated to cater to evil players, where npcs and shopkeeps are red and all the surrounding mobs are positive karma creatures - twisting the traditional good/evil model seen in most games.
- a new playdirector system with fully interactive plays being added for quests
- Revised map, with roads, new cities, new castles, places to build, homes to buy, champ spawns, too much to list
- Higher-end content and mobs, including new higher-end dungeons with new mechanics
- Dynamic good versus evil algorythm that encourages players to choose between good/evil playstyles
- New systems like dynamic karma/fame calculations for created mobs
- An animal borker that buys ANY tamable in the world, with some special rewards added.
- Animal levelling and animal breeding! Train your favorite pet type through multiple generations to increase its abilities to the max.
- Killable town guards! No insta-teleport kills. these blues heal using potions and bandages and act like a high end mob.. you're a thief? a necro? you can sneak around the guards or just brute force your way into a city now.
- more customisable options in the myserversettings (total skillcap, total statcap, item decay)
- customized skillgain system - reduce the amount of time you spend in a skill's low end zone (0-70) while making later gains much harder (80+)
- taming now has passive gains. Gain taming WHILE you tame, not just at success/failure
- fully customizable conversation townspersons (currently need more populating)
- full conversational vendors and npcs. as them who they are and where you are and what certain service are
- Did i mention champion spawns?
- Custom Blue and Red Mobiles that act just like other players (will heal and res you) and walk like regular players.
- No item decay, no housing limit (this is meant to be a solo server - or server played with close friends so why limit?)
- Savings system offering interest for funds in the bank (to allow for riskier investments later..)
- The Ether is now prey to a curse affecting travelling spells.. small chance of players being negatively affected when using gate/recall/sacred journey, especially between worlds.
- new animal sanctuary added where you can collect tamables from all over the lands
- full standalone lottery - visit lady luck in the tavern or type [lottery ingame
- Customized hitching posts that don't make your tames disappear! Park your mount at a post and he stays there even after server restart
- full customized PvM gauntlet system! With top scores and multiple monster waves.
- New AI, new mobs.... try it and see.

If you join their discord, hope to see you there :) They have a channel for those who plan to play online (which is still really like a singleplayer experience but a shared experience with others) and those who just want to play offline on their own server. But its a very friendly group of people :)

To add a separate post as that is a bit long. But I want this to be the first reply.

ALL items (and corpses) are permanent. So if you join the server, make sure not to leave a bunch of trash everywhere :)

For those who like taming, the taming BODs (they are job orders where you tame a certain animal X amount of times) have increased in variety of animals/monsters you can tame. Also the rewards are a lot more varried. One of the rewards lets you change how your pet looks, just cosmetics, but could tame say elephants and make them look like chickens.

Jedis are fixed (yes there are Jedis and Syth in UA, they actually come from UO Odyssey, they are also in Ruins and Riches). Before, Jedi items were invisible so only Syth was really only one doable.

Both rather substantial, though the taming one a lot more so. Before, taming jobs were pretty boring and bland with no point in doing most of them. Should be a lot more fun.
