I bet curved lines of constructed walls would look great with this if it had the "smooth" wall tiles.

This is both awesome and terrifying at the same time. Can you post some screenshots of the game in-play? It'd be cool to see how playable it is.
As for the 8, this is the best I got:

Unfortunately it isn't much better. It looks too much like an 'A', although in context it might make sense. Good luck though!

fixed up the worst offenders(G, R, 0, 8) by killing their spacing(since I'd already 'iolated it for a few) and uncrossing the 0 (the Os are shorter)

edit: one corner was wrong direction.
edit2: screenshots in e'eryone's fa'orite colors: wood, silver, orthoclase, and microcline! Hope I didn't muck up cropping. (Note: vARIED_GROUND:NO]

Smoothed, all of 4 pixels changed  ::) (Okay, maybe just curved)

Okay, smooth that actually is (and diagonal lines work!-12px changed)

hmm. Upsized O for better wall-pillar interaction:

and a comparison: the last tileset (...320x200 means 80x50, I now realise)

Mirrsen did a 4x4. (None of them seem to be on the wiki.) He has a pic of a 4x4(embarktile) embark in that post.

nn. I think
010
111
101
010 is the best option, unless diagonalized, but that would get too close to being the 50% rock tile.

5x5 is much easier thanks to M W E 3 8 S Z type situations where you need three on, spaced, either way.

010
101
010
101

This is preferable, because by the time your eye processes the last row of pixels, it has already decided that the character is an 8, and will move on. The missing final pixel is completely unnecessary because your eye would just assume its presence anyway. The most critical thing for the number 8 is to ensure that there is a complete circle at the top of the number. The top half of the profile of any character is the most recognizable part.

Maybe. See amulet/female symbol, though.

110

111 is much better for the G certainly, no longer a 'ood?' of blood

Since the amulet does not appear in text I don't think it will be a major problem. This is an ASCII game anyway, plenty of objects share silhouettes.

Very, very nice work!

IIRC some designer made 3x3 font.

Well, you can see that most of my letters were meant to be 3x3 plus row/col of space, so yeah.

8:
Code: [Select]
1100
1010
0101
0010
or maybe
Code: [Select]
1110
1011
1101
0110
or possibly #1 tilted the other way?:
Code: [Select]
0011
0101
1010
0100
or maybe, just maybe:
Code: [Select]
0110
1010
0101
0110
I like the last one the best.

That clock radio tileset would be nice tied to a set of low-fi colors to get the theme.
