First impression from the fort (seriously):

Wow, you people weren't lying about seven dwarves remaining.

All right, my brain just imploded from the sheer awesomeness of this fort and my heart skipped a beat when I imagined seven destiny-kicked dwarves living all alone in this MASSIVE fortress. I need someone to suggest to me to do something or I'll go insane while pondering the availible ways before unpausing.

Build a MEGA Dwarven Water Reactor to power FailCannon's future endeavours.

It's a shame magma is so sluggish and hard to pump up. A Dwarven Magma Reactor would be very awesome, relatively tamper-proof, and an easy way of "rewarding" nobles for their "invaluable service to the good fortune and well-being of the fortress".

It'd also be harder to build, much harder to repair, and a huge risk to anyone in the fortress.

Let's do it.

Okay, my paranoia just overtook my sense of epicness and simple common sense. First thing I'll do when I actually get to the game (in several hours) is to build a small offshoot off Failcannon, wall the rest off and live like simple non-insane dwarves.

SUCK IT, BITCHEZ.

He's a madman!  What manner of depraved lunatic would undertake a scheme like this?!

Failcannon: the place where the ones with enough common sense to "worst case thinking" are destined to haul garbage until the end of their existence.

I think that sentence describes all of Failcannon.

Great, I just got a headache while deciding where to build the vault.

Meanwhile, I noticed the nice'n'cold'n'pure (well, if you ignore the occasional corpses and shit) sea just to the south. I'll attempt to drill through it to make an independent sealable entrance (like I tried to (and failed) here). So yeah.

To get shit kick-started, I ordered the bridge to be built, disabled all non-essential jobs (i.e. eating and sleeping) and enable all essential job (singular) (i.e. building). The destiny will never bite me in the ass again!

water inlets are easy.  Hallway with the water intake at one point, a floodgate at the other end, and a door somewhere between leading down a side corridor (preferrably closer to the floodgate).  Miner goes in, taps the ocean, then runs like hell for the door.  Lock the door if he makes it (with a second door down the corridor, just in case he gets to it AS the water reaches him) and you're done.  Safe, simple, and only moderately likely to kill a miner.  Just dont forget to floor over the inlet area and water-channeling corridors or you'll get trees where you don't want'em.
