I would take great pleasure in playing a DF Mod that had chestbursters.

I can't help but imagine that this scene is occurring on an asteroid out in space. It has a sort of eerie, spacey look for some reason.

That would be the ink black back-ground.  Next time I'll just use dark colours to show a dark background.

Not entirely... the style also reminds me of children's science fiction book covers (hence: space).

Crickets have mandibles right?  I'm not too acquainted with cricket anatomy.

crickets do have mandibles. Nothing that extends far beyond the head, but they can certainly chew. A forgotten beast of a cricket may have pretty impressive chompers.

Thank you Eric, also does the drawing HAVE to include all the elements of the description?  I've noticed that some of the previous drawings lack the "Broad Shell".  Or "Bloated Body".

EDIT:Consider that question irrelevant for now, sorry if this is a tad large but Voila!  I tried to capture more of a bloated body than an exoskeleton but wah-hey.  (also that thing on it's back is the shell)

Commentary:  Urist is encountering Omil in the depths of the world.  Omil's barbed legs are splayed across the cavern wall.  Omil's transparent wings are masterfully drawn.  Omil has the appearance of a silverfish.  Omil has switched on his headlamp.  Urist is terrified.

Commentary:  Urist is encountering Omil in the depths of space.  Urist is admiring the line work on his portrait.  Omil is tapping Urist with its bloated antenna.  Urist's bare toes are curling.

Commentary:  Omil contemplates in the depth of the world his new neighbor Urist.  Omil has a great compound eye.  Omil is very shiny.  Omil's antennae fill the world.  Urist's nose is itching.

Urist is encountering Omil in the depths of the world.  Urist has started decomposing recently.  Omil is coveting Urist's pick.  Omil has the appearance of a great, bloated tick.  His compound eye is panicking.  :O  Urist is psychosomatically itching.

Urist is encountering Omil on a sunny day.  A river is splashing.  Omil is leaping from ambush.  Omil's stinger is pulsating.  Urist's beard is stunning.  Urist is cringing. 

I really enjoyed everyone's entries.  For winner, I was torn between icecold and Knick.  icecold, I love the glowing eye, and you nailed all of the characteristics, but I'm going to have to go with Knick.  Something about breaking out the coal-black ink and scratching around on physical paper to capture the essence of a monster is very dwarfy.

I'm flattered!  I'm stuck with paper, ink, water colours and a scanner because that's all I have.  Give me a day or two to dredge up a forgotten beast.
