Suddenly I grew extra eyes while reading a book.

Handy! You could read faster.

Anyway, this game is weird. I can't put my finger on it, but despite the bulk of it being near-identical fetch quests, the boring combat, the NPCs being bland and faceless, the loss of karma for failing requests and low karma inexplicably making you a criminal, for some reason I'm still finding it addictive.
Very odd. I just want to actually become good at this game for some reason!
All my characters so far have ended up failing once their karma dropped low and they became a criminal. (Seriously, what's up with that?)
It's really hard to keep karma high when you get one point for completing a quest, and lose about ten for failing even the simplest one. ::) My current guy seems to be doing okay, though.

It has a sort of pornographic quality.

... i had to nuke 3 cities and currently have zero karma. Do the red flower over palmia quest.
you hit rock bottom for karma.
join the thief's guild if you want to now.
after that get killed by a guard while at -25 Karma or under and level 6 or higher. (+10 Karma)
if you have 6 or more potions of cure corruption you can go to noyel and give pael's mother some potions of cure corruption. after  5 or so you get a happy applesome money and platinum. every potion after that is +20 Karma.
Bury all corpses while under -5 Karma - they give +5
maybe you should hire a maid and just wait for beggars to come along.

Waaaaitaminute... Not sure how to do all of that, but giving cash to beggars gives karma?!
Sweet. Maybe they aren't good for nothing after all. :P ...My first few characters just killed them. Maybe it's not so surprising I had low karma? :-\

Slaughtering beggars and bards by the dozens will not lower your karma... but touch a tourist or town child and I'll call you a monster. :P

I don't give potions or money to get karma... I only raise my karma back via burying random corpses and doing quests.

I plan well ahead before I plant the bomb. I stockpile disguise sets and scrolls of incognito, and make sure I have something else to spend my time on (like dungeon diving, fishing, playing music, etc.) if I ran out of quests to do in Derphy.

actually i almost always do the nuke quest before i reach level 6. as well as the gene machine quest, because the low level balls result in you only being able to catch hermit crabs later if your damage output inevitably rises. and even then i sometimes one-hit them.
Unless i play a fairy which can't carry the nuke, that is. if i do i make sure to have a scroll of recall - read it, plant the nuke some turns after and enter palmia from the bottom right. then wait in the corner. sometimes it doesn't kill you then.

Once again, fairy pianist. Your charisma will entitle an army as soon as you start, as well as a means to afford them pretty much right away (*Cough* May I interest you in a little tail tonight, madam? *Cough*) and the ability to carry stuff.

You want to play the game because character development is fun. It happens to me too :D

And to you my-karma-is-low guys, you really should get the secret tresure of the wicked. You'll stay as a criminal for sometime but after that you won't be a criminal even if you try. Well you could be but you have to be really careless to be criminal. Also, you can have sex with everybody and don't recieve any karma penalty. Bonus!

actually i almost always do the nuke quest before i reach level 6.
Great plan. That's what I do.

Ahh Elona, the game where the worst thing you can do is level up and where the worst thing you can do is have high fame/Karma.

It is one of the few games that is outright dead against your advancement. I mean SURE you caaaan tackle dungeons one after the other immediately, but your stats will improve too slowly to keep up with the dungeons (Plus some character choices... Such as being a Golem, absolutely neeeeeeeeds certain skills to be viable)

Still fun. My Golem was the most powerful level 30 I ever had.

Yes, Elona is really a strange game, the game has no kind of balance (new character -> 1st sleep and already crippled ) , gameplay design is borderline ridiculous (a roguelike in which leveling up put you in disadvantage ? ) and there are rather very dodgy concepts in it (never played an Elona game harder than when i tried with a character having Luck at its maximum ! ).

But surprisingly ... it's always very fun to play (and i don't mean "fun!" in the sense of stupidly difficult, but fun in the sense of interesting, replayable and enjoyable).

Elona is really a work of mystery.

Hehe, Elona does have a few fun ways to mess with you. One of the most memorable for me was my first char, a dwarf warrior. I had already learned that wells hated me, and would only nick my stats or mutate me. So I just stopped drinking from them altogether. Well the game still screwed me with a well...

I had just returned after a grueling ordeal in the puppy cave... well it wasn't that hard, but getting the puppy out alive was the problematic part. Anyways I was walking triumphantly up to the kids house with his puppy and my lil girl following close behind me. As I was walking through town just mere steps from the kids house, my lil girl decided to drink from the well near his house. And out pops a bunch of monsters, Vanity of course sees them, and charges them. He promptly smites all of them which in turn brings forth the end of days... you can guess what happens from there.

That was the end of my first char as I turned Elona off in disgust and watched tv for awhile. Would come back later that night, and roll up a new char though. I now also, empty out all wells by dipping empty bottles into them.

Depends on the race. While 15kg might be too light for human, it might be reasonable for other races.
Also, because metric is awesome.

Horre shitsu- you were not even exaggerating in the least. I rolled a male fairy (Enjoyable Lad Berries and Cream) and within 30 minutes of play time had managed to collect 8000 gold. Booty calls with shopkeepers were netting me 500-2000 gold per go, with an additional ~500 from piano performances in between...

Keeping a fairy alive even in lowly dungeons like the puppy one is very hard, getting oneshot-ed is not that rare in there.
I had to get to Derphy and buy more companions/slaves to get a chance in this dungeon.

And i thought that malus when dying was only applying only starting with level 6 , but considering the insane amount of money i lost despite i'm at level 4 , it does not look good as i can't imagine what it will be when i'll reach level 6 (as even trying to avoid killing anything, you gain XP anyways) and starting to lose 0.5 skills points by death.

Obviously companions/slaves are getting very low XP, considering they have killed so many monsters in my repeated explorations of the puppy dungeon, and my laser shooting punk pet is always at level  1.

Will have to invest in that dodge feat now as when i'm cornered it's really bad, my 2 little sisters are doing great at destroying enemies, my starting bear in comparison is simply awfull, it can't kill anything despite having only 1 less level than the litte sisters.
I'm considering firing the bear and trying to buy another little sister in Derphy.

I can't imagine why you would ever take a bear in the first place. Little girls/sisters are better simply because you can give them weapons and armor you can use.
