I got a pet little girl. the forums have a tip to ride my little girl. I have the wiki open and can't figure out how to ride pets. I 'interact' with her and I can talk, teach words, and give her stuff. I don't see how to ride her.

also is there a minimap available for towns/dungeons?

If I recall correctly (haven't played the game in ages), riding is a skill you need to learn first if you didn't start with it.

Yes, you'll need 15 platinum for the first skill at the trainers in towns and 3 more for every skill after that (up to 50 in Elona+). Platinum comes from quests as you mentioned, treasure (sometimes), Yacatect's various gifts, and I think also dungeons.

The little girl actually isn't that great for riding. The main reason to ride her is for the innuendo. Though she does make a very good warrior.

It seems there is a new version: Google Translated Changelog

I can't really make out the translated notes too well, and there seems to be a number of bugfix releases in a short amount of time, so I'm holding off a bit longer. But, the main thing that intrigues me is a supposed "Overdose" mode where skills and attributes go up 20 times faster than normal. Even though I do like a fair bit of grind, this is quite tempting... :P

question about the riding skill as i have never used it on anything.

Sure it helps in getting a slow character to increase its speed, but looking at the wiki, it really does not seem that interesting considering the negative impact of it :

Quote
The trade offs are that your pet's speed will be reduced, thus it will only attack and heal very slowly, your chance to-hit is lowered, spell casting chance is decreased and heavy weapons (4.0s+) have their chance to hit lowered by an amount relative to how much more than 4.0s the weapon weighs. Weapons with exactly 4s receive either no penalty or a very small penalty that can be offset with the two-hand skill, but it grows exponentially from then on, reaching more than 100% penalty to hit at 8s. Equipping a shield that weighs more than 4.0s will give the same warning as equipping a heavy weapon, however, there is no apparent effect.

Having less spell casting chance is definitively something i would not want considering how at near 90% for some of my spell, it still really does not prevent them to fail.

Am i missing something ?

I wouldn't ride at all if I were a spellcaster. Which I am, so I don't ride at all and never have, so I'm not experienced with the boosts nor penalties. I've never felt it was super important as I had 144 speed or so on foot already, without any buffs from Lulwy or anything; just some spirit cloth stuff. Not to mention the AP training you can get to buff your speed which is relatively cheap and very effective, though you have to have beaten Zeome to get it.

(Of course spirit cloth is NOT 100% OPTIMAL BEST GEAR so my advice is best ignored. :P)

Huh, so I got the new "Squeeze" effect to work.
So you need to:
1. Be Sleepy.
2. Be on a bed.
3. Use Squeeze on a nearby pet.

Got a more dreams than usual upon doing it.

Old post, but I can't get squeeze to do what you said, all I end up doing is making my pets angry by dealing damage to them. Maybe there is a relationship requirement or something?

Currently playing as 'God Unit' Durandall. If you see me dying of starvation a lot, it's because I forget to pack food cargos :P

Yes, I found there is a relationship requirement. Currently I have lots of pets at soulmate (squeeze works), and my new andriod girl at Amiable (not squeezable yet).

However I don't feel I get any more dreams than usual; and there can still be negative ones. On the other hand, you get a "breakfast" event from time to time... which doesn't seem to do anything special other than filling some hunger.

A somewhat better translation of the changes for 1.26 is up on the Elona wiki:

  • four new items added: <Asteroid Belt> (unique girdle), claw, rock (new weapon types), and "magatama".
  • four new NPCs added, including one unique character.
  • three new game modes added: "Overdose" (Gain experience 20 times faster, cannot save score or make a gene), "Inferno" (Cannot revive after being killed, cannot reload ingame, receive a penalty if the game is exited without saving) and "Natural"(Same as Inferno, but without the one-life limitation)

Again, Overdose mode sounds interesting. "Natural" mode sounds kinda like how I already play (I forgot you can save/reload in-game... Sort of tempted to cheese my way past some of the early-level nonsense now). Inferno mode seems to enforce normal roguelike penalties and constraints... but in this game I don't see how anyone could get past level 5 like that.  :-\

how do you get potions of cure corruption? picked up ether disease early. they are not in shops. i take it they are rare.

i see a post about relationships and pets. how do you get them to like you better? anyway to see their stats or what level they are?

sometimes npcs have symbols over their head. its obvious which one is sleep. is there anything in the help about the rest of them?

The "easiest" way is probably gambling (blackjack) but it requires chips or whatever from gathering spots. If you win a streak and stop at a particular time (I can't remember if it is a streak of 4 or 10 or what) you have a high chance of getting a cure corruption potion as a reward.

Otherwise, they drop from clearing dungeons, you can wish for them if you get a wish, they are very rarely found in potion/magic shops (but probably not before you've invested millions into one, and still rare then). Might be a few other ways.

As Niveras said, gambling. It's best to not to use a casino item (dartboards, card tables, slot machines; you can find them in Derphy and Palmia easily) until you get a lucky dream. You have a chance to get one at 4 wins, and get one guaranteed at 5.
Other less reliable ways include finding them on the ground in dungeons, in your salary (VERY rarely IIRC), in shops (you'll have to pour a lot of gold in like he said, and they cost around 150k each), and from marrying your pets. Which leads to the next point.
i see a post about relationships and pets. how do you get them to like you better? anyway to see their stats or what level they are?
The cheapest way is to let them kill things for you. You'll know when they gain a relationship point when you see a heart over their head. You can also use love potions, but don't give it to them directly as it'll cause karma loss and a relationship drop. Instead, mix it with food and give the food to them (still karma loss) or throwing it at them (not sure if it works personally but no karma loss).
The only way to see their stats/level is to pay the informer. You could also use the gene engineering machine, as it shows the character sheet of the result if you mash two pets together.
sometimes npcs have symbols over their head. its obvious which one is sleep. is there anything in the help about the rest of them?
I don't believe it says it in the help, but they're here. I believe it's also missing the little angry mark which you can probably guess the meaning of.
