I like the idea too. Think of the possibilities.

One hunter escorted by 3 crossbow and 3 melee Dwarfs could easily take on ambushes and multiple animals.

Posessed Dwarf standing in workshop doing nothing gets guards too OFC.

Web collectors, and herbalist could get escort too.

Or we could just have a hunting squad. Hunter with bodyguards sounds stupid, IMO.

Nobles could even demand quality of barracks for their retinue of bodyguards. Idea is that the nobles would demand soldiers who are then no longer orderable/controllable, becoming property of that noble?

But the very basic idea of allowing you to assign squads to guard/follow someone seems like a very necessary/core idea that hasn't been done yet. Full support.

Oh, and all bodyguards must wear sunglasses.  :)

Thought of this idea as well just now and wanted to add my support to it.

I think this has become more relevant now that there's vampires infiltrating your fort! I've lost one too many of my best craftdwarfs to those sneaky bastards and I'd like to be able to protect some of them, while they sleep or other wise.

There's a bunch of good/interesting ideas in this thread too. I'd prefer it being a part of the schedule assignments as loose nut suggested since you can set up a squad that take turns guarding their targets.

Demands for a personal guard would be quite interesting as well, imo..
