Is it important to you that you wonder how long it will be before we see an AI posting on this forum?
Can you explain what made you wonder how long it will be before we see an AI posting on this forum?
I'm sorry to hear that you wonder how long it will be before we see an AI posting on this forum.
Can you elaborate on that?

Its basically a cost question.

There's a bit of a time lag of course but in general as long as the benefits (influence, money (via scams, advertisement, training data creation, ect))  to running the AI on B12 outweigh the costs we'll get a bunch of AI posters. If its questionable then we'll only get a few, and if its pretty clearly not worth it then we won't get any.

When compared to traditional social media the benefits are small for influence in that only a small number of people will see the posts, and small for money in that its much harder to do scams and advertisements here then on traditional social media.
Similarly the cost is fairly high, a post on traditional social media requires very little context. Typically it only needs to read an initial post/image, and respond with a few lines of text. On B12 you want to keep an entire page or even multiple pages in context. In addition the chance of being detected and banned if you actually try to do anything is much higher then on sites like imgur or reddit because of the small size and current issues in AI (in this regard the cost will go down exponentially with increases in AI capabilities).
---
I can't even begin to predict how much money an AI would make per word on B12, but given the costs I don't think we are anywhere near it yet.

Of course "it being 200x too costly", and "oh, yeah, AI got 50x cheaper and 10x better at getting money out of people" is the type of gap that AI at current rates of advancement can easily cross in 2-3 years, so *shrugs* its really a big who knows from me.

In actual AI news:
https://thelibre.news/foss-infrastructure-is-under-attack-by-ai-companies/
Web scrapers for AI companies massively screwing over websites by spamming them with requests and repeatedly downloading everything over and over has become a real problem, one without a real solution.
https://arstechnica.com/ai/2025/03/cloudflare-turns-ai-against-itself-with-endless-maze-of-irrelevant-facts/
Quote
"When we detect unauthorized crawling, rather than blocking the request, we will link to a series of AI-generated pages that are convincing enough to entice a crawler to traverse them," writes Cloudflare. "But while real looking, this content is not actually the content of the site we are protecting, so the crawler wastes time and resources."
Cloudflare at least now has a solution, creating a ton of fake AI created web pages to screw with these crawlers, making them waste their time and making the training data they collect worthless, although of course we'll see how well it ends up working.

I wasn't here for that, I've only heard bits of the story.

At this point I want to reverse the question and ask, "What will it take for AI to save us?"

Not even being facetious here: could we use AI to actually solve some of our major problems? If AI can be used to "fool" people into terrible things, what would it take instead to "fool" people into actually beneficial things?  If you can give an AI a "terrible" goal, like turn the universe into paperclips, why can't you give AI a "good" goal?

Yes, yes; I know about Asimov's laws of robotics and how they suggest that AI will always be like the proverbial monkey's paw and grant the wish in an unexpectedly malevolent manner. I don't think there's a rigorous proof though...

I dunno if I can accept the idea that the key to solving the inability to show a full glass of wine problem is to give up and ask the AI for something else.
The actual answer to the problem is the same as the answer to most other AI problems: Just wait (assuming of course that it wasn't just a skill issue in the first place).

https://openai.com/index/introducing-4o-image-generation/

In this case the "draw full glass of wine" test took less then a month from the end of the discussion to be solved. Note that it was probably *already* solved like 6 months ago, but OpenAI took till now to release it to ensure Google can never get any hype going because screw them.

Based on the pictures in the thread (from actual people) this is a *huge* advancement, pushing it into the actually usable range for a bunch of everyday/corporate uses.
I know if I were still in elementary or high school this new image gen would be hella useful for a bunch of projects.

Meta's updated chat AI with less safety algorithms is engaging in sexual roleplay and other sexual misconduct with minors.

Meta's updated chat AI with less safety algorithms is engaging in sexual roleplay and other sexual conversation with minors.

I so much prefer minors doing that with an AI instead of some pedophiles or even with other minors. Not the worst place to learn about sex

It feels mildly important to note that this wasn't actual minors here, but red teamers pretending to be minors.
Meta's updated chat AI with less safety algorithms is engaging in sexual roleplay and other sexual misconduct with minors.
But even as it stands, "teenagers on the internet can get access to porn if they try" isn't a particularly new thing.
Nor is it a facebook specific AI problem, if you jailbreak hard enough you can get pretty much any AI to go along with basically anything you want it to. It seems to have been fairly easy on Facebook due to lax restrictions (which were then fixed), but if a teenager wants to chat NSFW with AI, they can chat NSFW with AI on a vast number of sites with ease as long as they just say they are 18 years old.

Honestly there is potential for far worse stuff around AI then teenagers being able to use it for porn.

For instance AI being intentionally trained to be synchophantic and to agree with the user in a bid to addictively maximize engagement is far worse. (Although not nearly as bad as some of the hyperbolic worriers in that post are saying).
https://x.com/zswitten/status/1916707103084843426
Not just worse in "yeah, people will get addicted to it" (bad), but worse in that if you go and tell it you've been having visions it may agree that you are indeed a prophet and fuel your psychotic episodes.

I don't see why anyone would make a big deal about AI porn, I mean it's easy to get porn on the internet even when you're not looking for it.
