By targeting people with multiple hats.  He is always like he has zero hats when he uses that ability, he takes them all + any that were gained by his target that night.  So he can go from say, 3 to 5 in one night, even without mugging.  He could accidentally hatwin even.  But targeting Toony doesn't look like an accident at all.  Get the most hats he even said today.

I already said that I mugged you, Imp. I raided ToonyMan because I figured it was the best way to maximize my hat gain last night. I was correct. I don't see what the problem is.

And he had to be pushed hard to even say that.

Go read what it takes for the hat tyrant victory to happen.

You have to acquire the target number of hats, and then SURVIVE HATLO.

Tell me how Magma Mater accomplishes the SURVIVE HATLO part.

Why at all would Imp's claimed Mugging attempt fail on Magma Mater? Perhaps, was it because, there was no mugging attempt?
Why was your only action last night to kill NQT?

Didn't want to Mug because I might've lost the Dunce Cap in a scuffle.

I guess I could've graverobbed or assessed but it didn't occur to me and I send messages with all my actions anyway so my night game is always accounted for. Both Magma Mater and I more or less thought the game was going to be decided during the night and everything else we did wasn't going to really matter that much.
So you didn't target Magma last night with anything?

Affirmative. We discussed schemes we could employ to keep the Dunce Cap in my possession, which would have involved me mugging Magma Mater, but ultimately decided against doing those schemes because we assessed that it probably wouldn't have mattered.

Which hats? Which nights?
N0: Started with beret
N1: Tried to claim hats from Tric and Kris but failed due to Kris's cloak. Graverobbed baseball cap.
N2: Ate a beret and baseball cap. Tried to graverob salvatore but too late.
N3: Claimed hats from magma and Imp: gained the cat ear headband and the dunce cap. Assessed Jim and learned he had firefighter's cap.
N4: Ate dunce cap (sorry) and cat ear headband. Graverobbed the black hat. Got a message from Jim asking me not to eat the dunce cap (too late).
N5: Graverobbed the sunglasses. Mugged Toony but he had nothing to steal by then. Got a video from Jim.
N6 Plan: Eat sunglasses and black hat. Mug someone?

Why did you avoid claiming the multi revive? I think knowing that solving your slot with the lynch would have been unfeasible would have been good information for making a decision during D5.
I was still hoping to soak a mafia kill. When I went to bed, it was looking like Toony was beginning to see sense so I had some small hope that I wouldn't be eliminated. If I'd been awake nearer to when the hammer fell, I'd have said something. Because of timezones, I've missed the start and end of every day so far.

Oh, thank goodness.  I did think it was an instant win.

So we need to worry about people who can't die who also can get many hats.

Most Esteemed Fallacy, how does the Hatwin work with lovers?

In the imagined horror that Player A and Player B are lovers, and Player A gains 5+ hats on DayX.  Player B cannot die that day for any reason.  But Player A does die to elim (or whatever else) on DayX.  Would Player B who survives be eligible to hatwin end of DayX?

There's weird stuff with Jim.  Like, he's wearing his duncecap.

And he was perfectly happy for hats not his to be destroyed, while I know he didn't have dunce cap because I did.  So I figure he can recreate at least that dunce cap, and while it has no abilities on the hat - who knows what it does when held by his role.

There's strange and scary mech here.  Hat-related mech and I have no idea what's inside the role and might influence hatwin.

There was a point when I had three hats and could have gone for a hat win, but I avoided it because I've been unrightfully maligned by hatspicion all game. Going for a hat win at this point would lower my chances of winning.

Hmmm, good point. Although, as Krr1ss found out, if you put your faith in a cape and a hood they may not protect you the way that they should.

My Hat timeline:
N0: Started with Firefighter Hat.
N1: Nothing changed, assessed that Jack had 0 hats.
N2: Nothing changed, assessed Jim and learned he had 2 hats one was Wizard Hat, but then shortly after FoU corrected this and said Jim had 0 hats.
N3: Lost Firefighter Hat received message from Jim, assessed NQT learned they had 2 hats one was Cat Ear Headband.
N4: Mugged NQT but gained Firefighter hat after getting in fight instead, mugged Magma and gained Wizard Hat, then lost Wizard Hat at end of night.
N5: Mugged Imp but gained Propeller hat after getting in fight instead, Graverobbed Tric but didn't get Sunglasses, lost Propeller hat and Firefighter hat at end of night.

@Jim:
How can you scheme to protect the Dunce Cap last night (N5) when NQT ate it on N4?

It doesn't have to go to hatlo, you have the capability of going straight to 5 hats in a single night. Although in this case even if I didn't successfully defended you stealing the Top Hat from Imp (again, your actions were to maximize getting as many hats as possible, you can't argue it wasn't) you would only have 4 hats at most which wouldn't be an instant win unless you became a Werewolf (which you shouldn't have know how my new auto works at that time only me and Imp knew).

It respawns to a random living player when destroyed. On N4 it appears it respawned to me, as a loyal hat should.

People need to read the Hat Tyrant rules.

If any living player possesses 5 or more Hat abilities at the end of the Day, after the execution, that player wins and all other players lose.

If at the start of the Day, any player possesses 4 or more Hat abilities, it will be publicly announced that it is currently HATLO. All players who currently possess 1 or fewer Hats will then be named.
