What makes you keep coming back?
« on: April 25, 2025, 10:35:47 pm »

The last time I played Dwarf Fortress was 5 years ago and when I saw the steam release I wanted to buy and play again but then I remembered just before I stopped playing that I kept doing the same things over and over again. I'm sure there are a lot of things I didn't try but my question is how do you keep making the game not repetitive for you?

I mod the game more than I play it, but my big project is to add a bunch more entity stuff.

After a long period of not playing, coming back feels fresh, even if I'm doing largely the same activities in each playthrough. You could also set a goal to try 1 new mechanic, industry, or challenge each new fort, so you don't fall into a rut.

Live long if you can, and prosper by any means necessary.  Any means, Urist.  So pull that lever, or by Armok, I'll lock you outside come next siege.
He who plays with dwarves must take care that he does not become a dwarf.  And when you stare into DwarfFort, Dwarffort stares back into you.
