Dwarf Fortress: You have a team of hundreds working for four years to make a game where you save the world again. We have one guy for four years make a near-infinite world generator, write the physics, generate histories, form detailed descriptions of every human, elf, dwarf, and goblin generated, caverns, and huge randomly generated monsters made out of who knows what. You. guys. suck.

I dont like caves in my fortress. So i set CAVERN_LAYER_COUNT:0.
But then I do not get any plant products on embark, no seeds no plants no drinks ...

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...
It should be pretty fun though.

Yea, guess so. But what is the best way then to avoid pre-existing caves ?

Are we going to see any military/combat bugfixes in .06? The major stuff like equipment problems and combat balancing?

floor and wall them off when you breach them? it works well for me

From the description of the event, I think that your copy of Dwarf Fortress was on drugs when this happened. That's surely the only logical explanation for a human werewolf with deadly farts dying from it's own excrement after slaughtering some goblins comrades.

sweet! now my saved game with umpteen items owing to dead elf merchant junk runs at close to 100 fps with temp and weather turned off and no mass movements to grab dead people's items. very nice. now to see if dfcleanmap won't crash df.. or if i need to turn weather back on again..

I know that page, I check it daily. Soon after I posted that question the devlog appeared and told that Toady is going to do equipment bugs tomorrow. Awesome coincidence and can't wait for the fixes!

Long time lurker and old DF vet... hope this isn't too OT for this thread, but I was wondering if you all might be able to answer a question.

I really want to play with all the new features, but when reading the bug reports and these threads I am a bit leery of downloading until a later release. While Toady/Baughn are working hard to get all the kinks worked out (and thank you for this!), I had a few questions:

How "playable" is the current version?
Are there any major bugs that make a feature unusable?

Not sure if this happened in 31.04 or 31.05.

On the designation screen, if you hold down shift and cursor, it moves the cursor 10 units. If you hold down shift, give another window the focus, give DF focus again, and cursor, the cursor will only move 1 unit until it's received a shift-up+shift-down.

This is a big deal to me because I have dfhack's dfvdig.exe bound to ctrl-shift-d. Having to press and release shift every time I dig breaks my digging workflow quite severely. :)

The current version is very playable, it's just that the military is pretty fucked at the moment. Stuff like equipping soldiers is bugged to hell and so is training. And the combat has some need for balancing, for example the current blunt weapons rarely kill. If you want to play a game with as little bugs as possible, play without military, but seeing that it's a pretty important part of the game, I'm waiting for .06 with the hopefully related fixes in it to start a real fort.

Awesome!
BTW I just realized that I donated more than I usually spent on full-priced games. And, oh boy, it was worth every penny!
Considering the 2600+ hours DF entertained me so far, that's a more than fair deal, I'd say. Keep it up Toady, you are a good man.

I get no menu/game sound. Is it a known bug?
