Just, what? A kobold hamlet? I need to look this up in legends mode.

About those Forest Retreats up there, don't worry. The humans conquered them.

So, a friend of mine as well as myself are doing a Let's Play of Dwarf Fortress.

For some reason, she got real meloncholy when a werelizard showed up. I mean, that's just part of the fun.

Oh, yeah. She's also super new to the game, and she's the one playing. It works about as well as you'd think. Especially since she's OCD about a lot of stuff.

So, after a quick look on Wikipedia, Europe had flintlocks by the 1400's. Crude, yes. But still had them.

Asia had hand cannons by then. So, hand cannons and flintlocks?

More specifically, with the new tech forest, could civs find out about various firearms and the like? And could that also be how humans learn how to make steel on their own?

So, I genned up a world and I read through legends like I usually do, and then I saw something weird. A zombie hydra.

It says that it was reanimated through unknown forces. I read through the legends, expecting it to have been reanimated by some unknown necromancer or something, but to my surprise it appears that it has always been dead.

Was it reanimated by a god? A demon? An Elven concubine with the secrets of life and death etched into her back? That is one of my favorites!

Also, do I make an adventurer to kill it? Y/Y?

Not sure if right board, but here goes.

Since we're getting libraries soon, I figured I might as well ask the following questions.

If you can receive books from outside your fort, could you possibly get a book from a necromancer that contains the secrets of life and death?

Following that, could a curious dwarf read that and become a necromancer within your fortress?

Could that necromancer live like a vampire does, minus the feeding, and then flee once people start to question why he never ages?

I'm thinking of making a mod that would add kaiju to the game.
I'm also thinking of making it to where every kaiju is a caste of one creature, allowing for lots of potential Fun.
You'd never know which kind it was until you could view the description.

Would anyone be interested in such a thing?

Title says it all. Carnivorous plants. Possibly some really big ones that could eat wildlife, including dorfs. I think that those ones would be in evil jungles, though. Or just savage jungles. I dunno. But it would be so cool.

I'm making a Pokemon mod that will not feature evolution and will simply be a creature pack. Do I have to name the files things like creature_pokemon_swamp or I can I name them creature_pokemon_geni so that I can sort them all by generation?

If you get invaded and you manage to capture some elf or goblin in a cage trap, they should be able to be sent to your jails as war prisoners. And if you get enough in there, a diplomat comes along your way and is there to bargain for their lives. Plus, you should be able to geld them thanks to the devblog.

I'm attempting to mod in xenomorphs and I have a few questions that would be useful in knowing to help make this mod work.

1.) Is it possible to give a creature an attack that kills itself? Like a facehugger injecting the thing that causes a syndrome and then it dies.

2.) Is it possible for a syndrome to cause a creature to burst out of a creature's chest?

3.) Can creatures hatch from eggs that are dropped by trees?

I, for one, am very happy that our goblin overlords are finally gone. I've gotten tired of the stale goblin sieges. Time for some human, dorf, and hippy sieges.

DF Suggestions / Volcano Eruptions

Volcanoes should be able to erupt in world gen, and in Fortress Mode + Adventure Mode. Also, the eruptions should have some lasting effect on the world. Like if a super volcano similar to the one under Yellow Stone were to erupt, the world would be effected in the same way as our actual world. Changes in climate, ash blanketing the ground for a long ways away, possibly a miniature ice age happening due to the amount of ash in the air. Etc, etc.

What do you all think?
