DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: No Goblin Attacks?

Goblins no longer have the [AMBUSHER] tag in the raws. You can add it in entity_default.txt to get ambushes again.

Yes, clowns do make excellent disinfectants. They often sterilize entire fortresses.

I just start at the top, channel out the top floor, then channel the next one down, and so forth. Don't dig all the levels out and then go back and channel out the floors. Not only is that dangerous, but also double the digging.

Infections in the ear, nose, or finger/toenails never heal, because in the vanilla raws those types of tissue do not have a healing rate set. I think if you add them in your saved raws, it will take effect, but I'm not 100% sure of it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The Mug Solution
« on: March 31, 2016, 12:06:14 pm »
I just have a small (6 tiles or so) stockpile for mugs next to my booze stockpile. the mug stockpile is set to allow no bins. I also set up my trade goods stockpiles to not allow mugs. I don't notice very many bad thoughts due to lack of mugs, so I assume it works.

Of course, every dwarf in my fort could be complaining about mugs and it wouldn't really make any difference, they'd all still be happy.

Overseer,

But it *was* the closest log to me when I was in the tavern and got the message saying I needed to build more beds. It was right over my head.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Ability to grasp lost = Death sentence?

Yup, I've had a dwarf die of dehydration in the middle of my tavern's booze stockpile. Same situation, unable to grasp the mug. I've been told that if he couldn't get a mug he'd just drink out of the barrel. But that would require a mugless fort, which results in lots of bad feelings.

I don't know of a good solution.

Maybe if you get a dwarf that's unable to grasp with both hands, you should just use him as a cavern explorer.

Deer have more reason to pray. Chief among those reasons are wolves.

I had a similar issue once. In my case, I HAD linked the bridge to the lever. But I had left it at the default "retracts" setting, so all pulling the lever did was make the bridge vanish *facepalm*.

This why I always queue up a "pull the lever" right after the "link lever to bridge". So I can make sure it does what I want. On very rare occasions I lose a random dwarf who is on the bridge when it raises, but now I never lose an entire for due to a bridge retracting when I wanted it to raise.

The check for dying of old age happens at the beginning of spring. In a mature fort, it's not unusual to spend the first few days of spring finding dead livestock, in addition to having a few dwarfs kick off on the first of Granite.

Maybe they use the bug guts as lube?  :o

"You smell lube"

I like the idea that you could exterminate all night trolls by just getting rid of all the lube in the world. That should probably trigger an age.

Actually, it's not so much that you'd exterminate the night trolls, it's more like you'd exterminate their spouses.

Just capture a few goblin in cage traps and release one of them in your tavern from time to time. ;)

My slave/spearman just bacame level 11 in spear, which makes him a spearmaster. I got an announcement "Atal Abcando has become a Slave."

MacTavish sits at the bar, sighs and shakes his head sadly.

A man walks into a pub in a village in Scotland and sits down next to a somewhat imposing man.
"Uh... hi," he says (he's from out of town).
"Hello," says the Scotsman. "What's your name?"
"I'm Sam," says the man.
"My name is MacTavish," says the Scotsman. "I'm known around here."
"Really?"
"Aye. You see that house on the hill as you come into the village? I built that house with my own two hands, stone by stone. But am I known as MacTavish the house builder? No."
Sam takes a reverent sip of his beer.
"Down by the loch there is a very fine boat. I built that boat meself, with my own two hands, board by board. But am I known as MacTavish the boat maker? No."
Sam is by now alive with anticipation.
"But," says MacTavish. "You f*** one sheep..."

Yeah, I've got a human slave mercenary in on of my squads. He's still got "slave" as his profession, despite having a 9 skill in spear, which would normally have him called a spearman.
