This is the Curses of Balin 10x12 (and 10x16) 1bit version! I just did it...! (one of the reasons is that I didn't found a way to use the classic tilesets into the newest versions of DF, so I made my own).

By the way, that's also another point why I make this tileset. The game looks totally different, the air smells different

It will eventually return... although, there will always be this magic spot with classic.... just too much nostalgia to let it go...

Hopefully, one day after the new iterations are further enough along, the classic version might be pushed into open source.

I'm guessing that's intended due to how DF works, I guess. (If the colors look different, that's ok, I'm using the standard colors in the screenshot.)

Heeey! Enjoy! Is very nice to see some expressive feedback (as any creator)..

Well, since is just a single tileset (a single image with 256 characters), there's inherent limitations. The zeroes and the dots also represent coffins and common terrain (with plants), just like the Kruggsmash tilesets and the oldest ones on the repository; so It is intended, I'm keeping it simple

Though, note to people reading:
You have to set BASIC_FONT to the same as FONT (and FULLFONT) otherwise the game stretches your chosen font to the aspect of the basic font.

In celebration of this development I made a 10x12 version of Tergel, since 10x12 is guaranteed to work now.

I wonder why 12x12 doesn't work if 10x12 does, and the default is 8x12. Is curses_800x600.bmp 10x12?

Well..Since I'm not an expert, at first I tried the square ones too; all had problems. I tried various settings on grid settings and none worked. Recently I understood that the in-game grid stays pixel-perfected ONLY for large displays: I resized the window far from my display resolution., and it worked. yet the initial menu remain messed. Then I started to test what was the limit, since the default 800x600 text font worked fine. Then I found that any small font works perfectly, and also that 10x12 is the limit.. Besides, I have no words... HOORAY!

[Update!] 800x600 = 10x10. Also, I diddn't tested tilesets with the y resolution far from 12. 10x13~10x16 could work. I guess I'll try it right now... IT WORKED (this font) .. I guess the X axis cannot be increased but the Y can.

I'd just like to piggyback off those findings any say 10x10 seems to be about the limit for square fonts as well, at least at 1920. if you pair a smaller 8x8, 9x9, or 10x10 basic_font with a larger 16, 18, or 20 font/fullfont you can just use the [Interface scaling percentage if not fitting width] setting to set your default scale closer to the larger font's size for gaming. Maintaining the ability to zoom out and use the UI without it breaking instantly as when using just the bigger fonts alone.

How nice =) I wish I could play with my old tiles in .50..
As far as I tested, the display has to be at least 1440p wide to these settings work properly. My display is 1366p, so the tileset remain blurred or messed (the ingame tiles try to fit the font size) and the initial menu bugged if be any size beyond 10x16. Conversely, the 32x32 Steam graphics works perfectly.. go figure..

I started out trying to make it as long and stupid as possible, then just tacked what I had done onto Lord Nightmare's tileset that you were using. I just like the balding dwarves and the rambo soldiers.

It looks like KMK-A from this thread by the artist formerly known as Vherid might actually be longer than 10x16. Worth a shot.
