Some dwarf fortress player will make something like that, and then the universe will be destroyed by the Von Newman cannon firing cat cannons using up all the matter in the universe.

You know buildable, placeable cannons would be amazing. A never ending us for iron ore, making cannon shot, firing cannon balls at the dungeon or at the floating islands, having naked, invisible artillery spotters for PvP.....Nom nom nom.

First, you can wear familiar equipment to get invis, second, not iron ore. *Everything* uses iron. :-/

Well they were traditionally made of iron I suppose.  But maybe allow any metal and just give different effectiveness for the normal metals.  Copper does little damage, iron does a bit more, silver makes a big hole, gold makes an even bigger hole.

And then give the higher grade metals special effects.  Demonite cannonballs convert grey brick and stone to ebonstone at the edge of the blast zone. (still making a hole, but replacing the materiel on the edges)  Meteor metal makes a massive blast a big hole and double the standard splash damage zone to critters.  Hellmetal instead of removing wall bits at the blast zone instantly converts it into lava when hit.

Donno about cobalt....maybe cobalt could be a bunker buster, digging through maybe half a dozen tiles on it's trajectory before exploding.

That seems a bit... intense. Also sounds like a good griefing tool, especially the hell shots.

Well I was thinking pvp server.  Had my mind on that during work today, what kinda stuff would be neat for a pvp server, I see somebody mention cannons and my mental floodgates fail and loose ranting all over the dining room.
