Now introducing: Incel Fortress

Learn to be a misogynistic, misanthropic husk who can't get laid and blame everyone but yourself for it.

Urist likes doges for their amusingly terse speech patterns and frequent exclamations of awe.

“Horny people” should, of course, be defined as people who have horns.
Satyrs should therefore be classified as "horny horny people".

Doesn't " X " means that it has been weared down?

Makes it all the more appropriate given what Twitter has become ever since the name change.

The Dwarf Fortress AI will still have a habit of causing "unfortunate accidents" for anyone it doesn't like.

Most of said victims being anyone who criticizes the AI.

The redone UI should be VR controllable only.
Toady should then redo the UI again and make it controllable only with a Virtual Boy.
Toady should redo this UI and make it controllable only by smart phones.

Specifically, the UI is only controllable through a personal AI app.

Maybe this has come up before, it seems like it has to have, but a cursory search couldn't find it.

Will there ever be modding support for implementing things like firedamp? Blackdamp, whitedamp, etc? "Although, the better question is, whether the current mining mechanic is complete or not?

Firedamp is any flammable gas found in coal mines, typically coalbed methane.
It is particularly found in areas where the coal is bituminous.
The gas accumulates in pockets in the coal and adjacent strata and when they are penetrated the release can trigger explosions.
Historically, if such a pocket was highly pressurized, it was termed a "bag of foulness".

Basically, support for letting gas spawn and then linger. Custom gas evaporates very quickly, which is problematic for certain modding endeavors.

Goody towers lean close to something approaching a natural mining hazard, but obviously they are very much their own thing.

I could understand maybe wanting to shrug off adding in better gas simulation support until way off in the far future. Like, I get that.

Been having a craving recently for adding in some neat puzzles, in terms of the game's mining logistics, and figured I'd ask. Apologies if the future of gas and the core mining gameplay wheel has been addressed in a previous post already.

Thanks again for your time Toad.

Edit: grammar, appended second question

I'd also be curious about this. Mostly because "you have uncovered a bag of foulness" just sounds so DF-y.

I'm starting to get used to those few elements that still require mouse scrolling, but I also certainly wouldn't complain if keyboard commands were re-implemented for them.

Meanwhile I'm certainly digging the new features. The sound effects and attack animations really make the gameplay come alive for me, and the music soundtrack is dynamite!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?

Playing on the beta branch. Loaded my pre-existing world in adventure mode. It is as I expected; all my civ's "population" are actually ghouls! The necromancers I defeated were still leave their mark, I must now purge the land of the plague ghouls.

First bug report: infected ghouls still count as site population, not necromancer invaders. Not new or specific to adventure mode.

Most or all of the controls remain unchanged?? But + mouse support! Which still feels clunky.

Yeah, just embarked with a polar bear man adventurer and I'm already noticing shortcomings. Having to switch over to mouse cursor to talk to people and examine outside objects definitely feels off to me. Oh well, guess it's a beta for a reason. Hopefully something I can get used to.

Anyway, I'm off to kill a troll which has apparently taken over a nearby monastery. Wish me luck...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: New UI is shit.

While I agree that the negative response in certain circles is exaggerated, I do sympathize with cases like this OP's. If you've taken a hiatus from the game for several years and missed everything relating to Steam and Premium, it's probably not a fun surprise to download a new version of DF Classic and suddenly find that you have to learn an entirely new UI while having missed all context for why this change was made. It's a lot harder to make adjustments when you find them thrust on you seemingly out of nowhere.
Now, obviously, I don't think this automatically gives one a free pass from phrasing their criticism in a constructive way, but the root frustration is certainly warranted. Regardless of what you want to say about Premium, incidents like this lead me to the concession that Toady probably would've been better off leaving the UI for Classic releases the way it was.

The new UI has many improvements IMO (in our nostalgia, we often forget just how many complaints were levelled at the old UI). For instance, I find mining much easier and faster now than it's ever been, and I find I have a lot more freedom in digging out interesting and unique room shapes that are more than just a series of squares and rectangles of varying sizes. That said, I do think moving nearly everything to mouse-only controls was a mistake. Luckily, Toady has dropped multiple hints that he plans on gradually re-integrating keyboard commands for those who prefer them, but there's been little in the way of an ETA on how long that will take.

Give every creature in the game a beard. Lizards, rocs, hydras, dragons, demons, skinless night trolls, bronze colosses, absolutely everything.

At long last, we arrive at the true cause of dwarven antipathy towards elves. Beard envy.
