Speaking of Modpacks, I've become incredibly pissed with Technic. It. Just. Refuses. To. Download. Minecraft. Files. At all.

I'm not really sure what went wrong there; already did a number on the firewalls and other s**t. I think that it isn't technically their fault, but rather my ISP's, which gives me abysmal mbps for quite a hefty fee. But I digress. >.<;

If the mod maker's one request for the redistribution of their mod (vs getting money from adfly or the like) is that they get recognized in some form of documentation or the like, and the mod pack doesn't do that, it seems reasonable to me to be upset.

I'm afraid Resonant Rise is just too laggy for me to play properly on my craptop. :(

I think it's because those mods didn't give permission to be part of that modpack.
More specifically, it means that they have neither given blanket permission to all modpacks/all atlauncher packs to use it, nor has anyone asked for specific permission for whatever pack you're downloading. It's really just a "better safe than sorry" thing they default to when the one making the pack doesn't provide the utterly ridiculous amount of proof that they're "allowed" to directly include it. Keeps the atlauncher out of trouble, and leaves the burden of getting permission for every little thing up to whoever makes the pack.

If you're on a PC with not too much RAM (say, 4GB) I found this to be immensely useful:

https://plus.google.com/112578037069533700061/posts/9dbVvqdQ6uG

Basically, add these arguments to your launcher:

-server -XX:+TieredCompilation -XX:CompileThreshold=1500 -XX:-DontCompileHugeMethods -XX:-UseCodeCacheFlushing -XX:+UseBiasedLocking -XX:BiasedLockingStartupDelay=0 -XX:NewRatio=3 -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:+CMSIncrementalPacing -XX:+CMSParallelRemarkEnabled -XX:+UseCompressedOops -XX:CMSInitiatingOccupancyFraction=30 -XX:+UseCMSInitiatingOccupancyOnly

This makes the garbage collection super efficient and almost stopped all the stupid virtual memory swapping in my client :P

Well, I suppose it's worth trying out at some point.

Also, I decided to give Hexxit another shot, this time in a new world. And I've gotta say, not having my base atop a hill of ice has improved my mood about the whole thing. Sure, where I am now I need to constantly worry about accidentally stepping in an suffocating in quicksand, but I'll take that over having to having to dam up my mines and not being able to place torches in certain areas for fear of flooding.

Plus I got an Ender eye pretty early on, and before I logged off I got the Smeltery up and with it I was able to get enough iron to be able to make my own pocket dimension! It's a bit dark and creepy right now, but soon enough I'll have enough materials to transform it into a right homely place where I will forever dread what lurks in the darkness beyond.

Any tips to prevent this from happening on the Technic Launcher?

Connect your Internet and try again. At least that seems like the problem.

So teher's a launcher called ATLauncher.
Sure it might be just another launcher, however it has a huge mod pack one can choose.
(Over 200 mods, according to some sources.)
The Yogscast Complete Pack.
If any Bay12'er would host a server with that mod pack, I would definitely join.

Is that the 1.2.5 pack?

I am really tempted to relive the old days.
