I've a tale to share with you all: the heartwarming story of two dwarves who, despite being pinned down by an entire seige, have thus far managed to survive on nothing but a crossbow and a bucket. When the siege hit, I set all of my citizens to a burrow within the safety of the wall and closed the gate. Unfortunately, two dwarves, Kel Rakustzefon and Ushrir Sarekdomas, were left outside to fend for themselves. Luckily, Ushrir is a hunter, so he'd brought along his trusty crossbow. He beat back a few of the more bloodthirsty goblins, and the opposing sides now stand in a virtual deadlock on either side of my gate. The dwarves have been shot to the point where neither can stand without excruciating pain, but Ushrir still finds the strength to carry a bucket up the mountain to the only water source outside the wall and bring Kel back something to drink. The two stand strong against the goblin abettors, but for how long?

I don't even go that far.  If they're not violent and I have a mist generator, then let them ghost it up!  They're not gonna kill, and my dwarves are too hopped up on mist to care!

Evidently, the dead are a trifle upset about being left to rot. Strangely, I've yet to see an "Urist the Dead has risen"-style message in this fort, despite at least two ghosts hanging about. Did those get removed at some point?

NINJA: Ghosts loiter, haunting loved ones, but when "the dead has risen" occurs, they become much more prominent and powerful in their, um, ghosting.

I find it hilarious that a dwarf living in a fortress filled with peaceful ghosts is still so easily scared by others. I mean, you deal with depressed and lost ghosts all the tme, and Urist McDumbasapost get's himself killed, comes back, then hides around a corner and he still scares the shit out of you? With the personality of most dwarves I could see a "scare-er" ghost being a very, very high risk job in a dwarven fortress.
