well, you wouldn't kill them, right? the grizzlies would, or cave crocs, or whatever. Not your fault

What? He says not to kill them. Just because you aren't using a dwarf to cut them up doesn't mean tossing the goblins down a grizzly pit or feeding them to crocs isn't murdering them.

But please, do not kill goblins... Do not slave them. You can catch them, strip them, take off They weapons and relase these poor creatures...

Don't kill. Don't enslave. Strip. Release to freedom.

The disturbing part is stripping them naked first.... why?

Couldn't you just seize their weapons?

Find the weapon through the stocks screen, order it dumped from there. Easier said than done, i used the d-b-h commands to "hide" the cages/goblins, ordered all "hidden" weapons dumped and then un-hid them again to avoid repeatedly dumping the same items over and over again. There's probably some easier way through DFHack, but i don't do DFHack so don't know.

I usually just keep goblins as prisoners, since any released goblins would just show up again with a later assault. No need to disarm them in that case, they don't use their weapons while caged (or chained - nothing like watching a dwarven child happily amble through a cell filled with armed and armoured goblin weaponmasters; although that was .34.11, the new aggressive civilians might no longer agree with chained prisoners).

Old zoo keeper advice: Make a trenches, who will divinde part for 4 parts. Just channel and remove raps later, making small passages (1x1). Animals are trying to get from one map end to other, so if only way to get to other side of map is by your cage traps... you will get many animals very fast.

But please, do not kill goblins... Do not slave them. You can catch them, strip them, take off They weapons and relase these poor creatures...

What kind of filthy goblin-apologist are you?!?!

Because... Killing is just bad. Goblins wants live! They are so angry on everybody just because they got into hate spiral, but if you will show them mercy... They will change... and They will live in peace! You must just show them They can... Just... Stop hatenes spral. Stop killing... They are just...spoiled by hate, but very tolerant. Look at them! They even saved human and dwarf childrens when They has been lost in forest... and adopted them, threated like They own childen...

How you can kill so wonderfull creatures?!?

This is so undwarfy and counterproductive I almost want to try it myself how well does it work for you?

The only time it's acceptable to strip a goblin naked and then release it is when the releasing is done in a magma chamber.

About the animals, you can build structures, possibly around natural features to increase catch rate for beasties, but you can't catch and train them without cage traps... you can use the previously mentioned baiting tactics to make it more predictable, but in the end you still need to have some luck to catch things (or at least some soldiers to steer the beasties toward the traps)

About the goblins, what's the point of even building a 100 story drop if I can't throw goblins from it?

I think Magma would work.  I am sure others can think of more ways.

What's with the goblin love in this thread ? It needs to be killed promptly.

The only good goblin is a goblin slain by a dwarf for the glory of the dwarven race. I guess you can kill them with magma, it purifies the goblinite faster, but it is more dwarven to have your dwarves meet them cowards in a straight fight.

The only good kobold is a kobold torn to pieces by a wardog or crawling on the ground, it's body mangled and broken by several crossbow bolts. Don't listen to all these "cutebold" apologists.

The only good elf is an living elf that has brought useful stuff to your fortress, or a burning !!elf!! that brought useless crap to your fortress.

The only good human is - eh, I'm fine with humans. They can do whatever.

Praise Khorne Armok ! Pile skulls high and spill blood in his name !

Now for something more on-topic, you want to catch animals ? Wall off your map (or make moats), keep some areas unwalled to create bottlenecks, and stuff liberally the bottlenecks with cage traps.

You can do the same for the caverns.

You'll catch animals really quickly, but in 0.31.25 I found that doing that (or excessive hunting) will extinguish animals really quickly. And then none ever go on your map anymore. Maybe it's fixed in this version

They're already fairly worn, which means more scattered clothes everywhere.
