The good news is we don't have to worry about the siege any more!
The bad news is that it's because IronTomato and Flame III are the only ones left alive.
The good news is we have food and drink for a while, IronTomato has a pick, and the zombies can't get to us.
The bad news is that Flame is on break.

Full report this evening. Can I have another year to get things back into shape or do I have to pass on the save with two dwarves?

What the blazes did you do?! If you can fix it by taking another year, do so. If not, I'll see what i can do.

Uhhh... I may have unleashed hell to fight the undead. It may have worked a little too well.

The fort right now consists of Flame's room, a brewer's workshop, the place where a kitchen used to be which is now a food stockpile, the room next to Flame's, a tunnel, and some rocks. Right now I'm digging a farm room to plant the two cave wheat seeds I found in the brewer's workshop. Flame just came off break.

I can fix this.

Hey! That was my idea! Did you use the tunnel I had prepared or was that too well fixed and then subsequently broken and subsequently fixed?

Flame's Journal

So at first, things went well. The necrothreaders decided to kill each other. I sent out the military to kill the remaining zombies and we won, though not without cost.

We got migrants, several waves. They bumped our population up to around 70. I put a few dwarves in the military. I even had enough dwarves to make a whole squad of crossbowmen. I opened up the second cavern because we had no wood and a forumite needed it for a mood.

A forgotten beast got in through the top of the forges - I found the hole afterwards.

Things were pretty calm. I had some bins made and such. A weresquirrel came and infected a dwarf, but said dwarf was killed. I dumped/melted all the junk. I also had roasts made - remember this.

Then the undead showed up.

Well, Pisskop and Dwarfy can handle it, right? They did last time. I'll send them out. Let no man say forumites cower behind their walls! Also I don't think our walls are cower-able. They've got a lot of holes.

Uhhh... Dwarfy is sleeping and Pisskop is oblivious. Oh well, one necromancer already burned himself to death. Pisskop can handle one necromancer and a few zombies, right?

And elves? What?

Oh boy, Pisskop isn't fighting back. He's just dodging and blocking. He's uninjured so far, but experience tells me he'll die eventually. But here comes Dwarfy, to the rescue!

He's getting tired...

He's on the ground now...

His one remaining hand is gone...

The zombies and elves have him surrounded...

Killed by his own disembodied hand. The irony.

Meanwhile, Pisskop is starting to vomit. The sun is getting to him.

The rest of the zombies are ganging up on him now.

He's snapped out of it! But it's too late. He's already paralyzed. It's only a matter of time until he's dead.

They're tearing him up...

He's fallen unconscious!

He finally suffocated. But his sacrifice has brought us time to seal the gates. Let's hope they hold.
...
Oh shit! They're getting in! Send out the crossbowmen! They can use the tunnels to their advantage!
...
The crossbowmen are dying. Despite the hundreds of bolts available, their quivers are empty. They are cut down with ease.

Even in death, our citizens fight for us. The other necromancer is killed by one of his own corpses.

Bim, the half-trained spearman, makes a desperate last stand.

He dies, but he takes a few with him.

Gwolfski spends his last bit of strength taking a zombie with him. A wounded engraver, crawling away, turns back and attacks the zombies chasing a child. Alas, the zombies catch the child anyway. The last two crossbowmen team up to try to kill a zombie with 15 kills, but it kills them both.

I've locked myself in my room and barricaded the door. May Armok have mercy on my soul.

The day seems lost. But not yet. Ingiz had a pick. Ingiz had an enemy. Ingiz had a plan.

Ingiz's pick struck the blue stone. It was slow going. He hadn't had much practice. He hoped the zombies wouldn't find him here. The pick struck an opening.

Ingiz turned and ran. Up the twisting stairs, past the boulders of blue rock already mined, away from the terrible things behind. He turned right when he should have turned left. Something heavy struck him in the back of the head, propelling his corpse thirty feet down the hall.

Engraved on the wall of Flame's room
I fled to my room when the zombies entered the fort proper. I hear screams through the door. The screams are replaced by even more horrible sounds. I hear the breathing of huge things. I hear them smashing furniture. I barricade the door just in case. I think I'm the only one left alive. I think I'll elect myself admin.
...
I'm getting thirsty.
...
Wait... Is that the sound of a pick?

"oh hello flame"
"hi tomato how did you find me"
i remembered you lock yourself in your room and dug towards it
i locked myself in the still

can i have some booze
yes

okay now we need to barricade the doors
okay get some boulders and stack them
now what
oh hey theres a cook shop next to the still maybe theres food
i will dig a hole

quick lock the door
okay now barricade the door
hey there is food
lets get rid of the cook shop and just put food here
good idea but we need pots to put the food in
also i am taking a break now because i am admin
okay i will make a workshop and pots
hey after that you should dig out into the next room
okay

okay the doors locked and barricaded

good this is my room now you can have the old one
okay

hey are those seeds
cave wheat seeds
if you dig east there is soil and we can plant them
also i am done with break

hey i dug out the room with soil
but its too cold to plant cave wheat

oh well we can do it later
i am going to sleep now
okay i will engrave walls
okay

hey i had a dream we were killed by ghosts
we should make slabs

okay you make the slabs and i engrave them

engrave these dwarves
okay
now put them over here
now the ghosts are gone

yay we wont die from ghosts now

you actually did it you unleashed hell you hooligan
It seemed like a good idea at the time

Hey! That was my idea! Did you use the tunnel I had prepared or was that too well fixed and then subsequently broken and subsequently fixed?
Nah, I had to dig a new tunnel. I don't know what you're talking about.

Well... Flame managed to do more damage then I did... Fuck time to kill flame.

So lemme get this straight. You managed to fix us up, get horders of migrants that we desperately needed then decided that we had to fight the enemy we've been avoiding for three forts and when you failed at that you thought that releasing Hell would be the better choice of death, despite what happened in Necrothreat II?

You most definitely gotta try to fix it now.

Rule number 1 of Necrothreat. Never fight a battle you aren't sure to win.
