The save can restore our stats to what they were when we saved. Our blood spells decrease our max hp/mp, which we cet back when we reabsorb the spell.
We saved our stats at the highest possible point, cast a blood spell which lowered our max hp/mp, then restored our stats so they were above the max.

I agree with Anailater. If we played smarter and abused the save function, we really don't need a healer. Anytime we're hurt we just need to restore our stats and go on our merry way. If we fight smart, we won't take as many hits. Attack-Attack-Attack might of worked for most things, but against the Mets it will just hurt us, and remember that two of us are pretty badly wounded.

Which is why I suggest my course of action outlined previously, due to the fact that it would allow Riltia to tank the two shots against Slog and Ciro, the most wounded, and get everyone in position to attack next turn when the Mets are vulnerable.

Also, since we're low on health, we should consider making Blood Armor after this fight, since what use is maximum HP if our Current isn't that high?

We were stupid, thats why we need a healer, because we're not suddenly going to roll 20's all of the time, that's why we will always need a healer, abusing the save function is no good: Its far away, we can't use it in extended battles, and backtracking may lead to more monsters or something. Plus there are locations where we can't reach it, suchhhhh aaassss... About now.

Basically we entered this with no healer and now we are hurting with no way to restore any of our hp. Slog is almost dead and is otherwise not exactly an amazing thing in the first place, Ciro is at 4 hp, and I am not digging the idea that mets can hit 3 times, Al doesn't have a ranged weapon, Riltia doesn't have a ranged weapon, although she is a tank. Therefore..
Ciro: Bloodshape a boomerang, check stats of boomerang
Riltia: Ask megaman about what he just did
Al: Do a heal roll on Riltia
Slog: Attempt to recuperate.
