Yeah, one victor only I think. Hopefully we'll avoid dogpiling though, that would not be nice.

Hey, Palazzo would like to join, but only if it's a PBEM. The TCP/IP doesn't really work with more than three players, in my experience.

I might have another player from outside the forums willing to give this a go, but I'd need a couple days to contact him.
You guys ok with waiting?

I'd vote for the vanilla SMAC, by the way.

By all means invite him, but if someone else comes first I'm giving the last place to them

I've chosen the Morganites, btw. Make your choice quickly or get stuck!

There should totally be a way to have duplicate factions.

I'll take the Believers, I suppose.

Well, it's kinda a double-deal with me and the guy. It's just that we've been looking for a pbem game to play together, so me joining alone would defeat the purpose.

Let me get in touch with him, and should you find somebody else to fill both the spots, then we'll just look somewhere else.

And should we make it in after all, I'll take whatever's left.

Aren't there only 7 factions? It's just the UN left, right?

If Il Palazzo's friend comes in, I'm willing to bow out and just follow along, assuming this game gets documented in-forum. :P

Huh? There's 6 players including me listed in the OP. Why would you need to bow out?

Because I miscounted, apparently, hah.

Also, if we are full up on players, difficulty matters a whole lot less, right? It's essentially just a question of how easy we want it to be for Drones to revolt?

I suppose so, it's the difference in difficulty that matters most. If everyone has the same handicaps, nothing actually changed.

Just a bit of friendly advice. Difficulty won't matter too much should be an even experience.

Also PBEM with 7 players can take ridiculously long times. My experience is the opposite of Palazzo, pretty much anything above 2 players with PBEM can take a long time and for a game like Alpha Centauri it can take a long long time for 7 players to even get a few turns in a PBEM game.

Dedicated TCP/IP sessions would be better, if I recall correctly you can always get people to stand in or let the AI control a faction.

However it does depend on the players, if everyone can pretty much be sure they are checking for updates frequently then it can go quite smoothly.

Depends on your definition of "ridiculously long". A turn per day would be ideal, but I'd expect two-three days intervals as a more likely average, based on other round-robin-style pbem games I've played.

The TCP/IP has problems with organising players from various timezones to "meet", especially since there's going to be more than one meeting, and then keeping them in front of the screen while they wait for their turn - and it easily takes half an hour or more for it to come back to you, even in the early stages of the game.

I've never done a PBEM type game but nice thing about it is that players wouldn't have to worry about scheduling and could play at their own pace.  Seems like a daunting task to play with 7 players doing a PBEM.  Keeping motivated and interested I think would be the most difficult thing about it - but I'm down with either way.

EDIT: Also, I vote for SMAC, Large map

If you do PBEM, I will take a spot.

SMAX, preferably. I've never played the pirates before, but I understand they're very powerful. Elsewise, I'll take the religious morons, or maybe the hive.
