@FFS: Yes, if I remember right he was orphaned and gave it away for a home, clothing, shelter and so such. Taken by some cult, details were vague.

In short, Chris is a cryptozoologist orphan with a lot of interest in the occult, and he didn't believe he was really going to lose his soul when he sold it to a cult for a place to spend the night and some food.

There's a possibility it was the same cult that hexed Ami. :P
