Quarter-Final Match IV
Varick the Undying VS. Monty the Dark Gnome

Spoiler: Gladiators (click to show/hide)

Let's hope that we see some lovely drowning. I wanna see the light fade from a gladiator's eyes as they lose consciousness, being engulfed by the sea monster infested waters!

Varick the Undying, truly such. But only thanks to my surgery of course. I've put that little 'bold back together countless times! But still, the guy is truly a warrior, endless perseverance aids his fights through the tourney, but will it be enough?

Monty the Dark Gnome, now in the arena's possession due to the unfortunate passing of his manager, has been blasting through his fights excellently, well, maybe not so. After a match where the odds were stacked impossibly against him, he prevailed. Will we see such an outcome today?

I suppose not, looks like I'm going to have to revise water hazard, I must say, I'm a bit disappointing in its performance thus far. Not a single drowning! Ah well, congratulations to our semi-finalists!

A fine round of fights! Shame about Thud's match, I was hoping for a real slobber knocker. On a side note that damn snake is scary!

I muse that not only has every battle in Heat Stroke resulted in fiery death, every victim of the lava only fell in after having their hand attacked ::)

I was a bit surprised at the sad performance of the serpent men in the previous round. They seemed to have a lot more potential. Now that damn scary snake King Tuticane has certainly redeemed them.

So, after devouring a few hundred practice elves and humans, he has decided on the following build, continuing on Master xub313's Armor-Serpent idea. He doesn't have legs, but he does indeed have arms, so some diamond adorned steel gauntlets are in order.

I present:

King Tuticane, the slayer of Uric of Battlefailed, devourer of Flakshed the Macebird and decloaker of Sath the Cloakbearer!

-King Tuticane- managed by _italics_
Serpent Man (250 points)
[Equipment]
Steel helm
Steel mail shirt
Steel breastplate
Steel leggings
Steel gauntlet [2]
[Skills]
Competent Dodger
Accomplished Biter
Grand Master Armor user

Remaining 211.4 points

Spoiler: Update info (click to show/hide)

Good luck to Thud the Mad, hopefully his insanity shields him from understanding what will happen to him!

edit: Save points for finals instead of Grand Master Biter

Ok so for this round Thud has 270 due to leftover points.

So I'm going to upgrade his Sword skill to Grandmasters and his Dodge to Professional. Leaving him 36 points.

All right, here it is for Princess Klackon-Ktsss-Ktss:

points left from last level-up : 3

3* 2 + 250 = 256 (gotta love a nice round number)

high master dodger -> grand master dodger (70)
adept lasher -> accomplished lasher (135)

points left : 51

I have an idea for balancing smaller and bigger creatures. I think that Mavell was onto something with giving the bonus only on the first fight and afterwards keeping the amount of level-up points the same for everyone. A thing that we could do is give points to smaller creatures that can only be spent for equipment, and cannot be banked. The bonus value could be a function of weight, something like nbEquipmentPts = maxValue - (weight * coefficient). That way, smaller creatures dont end up with incredibly high skills and bankable points, yet keep an ongoing advantage.

I don't know what the exact formula should be. Logically, the biggest creature available should have near 0 bonus equipment points, and the smallest creature would have close to the max value. The amount of points given to every gladiator at each level should be around 250 I think. I believe that 500 points for a max value could work, but maybe it's too much.

Interesting suggestion, Tesseract. Though, I think there is a lot of charm in having to balance equipment versus skills. Unarmored skilled gladiators vs. fully clad ones etc.

Vari, you defeated me waaay back in round 1. Now go be a champion. I'd rather be a stepping stone to victory than a side character.

Also, a shame Cerol lost. I was rooting for him.
