I suppose we already have something approaching carabiners, but we don't have lancers, and those and units like them are coming back into fashion around this time.

Revise standard cavalry equipment. Add lance, gauntlets, a helmet and a cuirass. Test armor should be able to resists sabers, exploded air pistols and far away Victoria I shots.  Also, try to improve saddles, horseshoes and other equine equipment to make it more fitting for a heavier rider

+1.

I agree that we need to boost our cavalry, but I don't think that's the best way. The Ft. Combe people showed that for some reasons, rifle-sized weapons aren't effective for cavalry. We need a shorter weapon.

A carbine would be nice, but I think we could do better. A pistol that can only shoot a single burst of fully automatic fire is useless for infantry . But for cavalry? Yes please. Imagine a line of cavalry, trotting toward an infantry line. At thirty meters, they each empty their pistol into the enemy formation, before drawing their swords and charging in. What infantry could withstand that kind of withering fire and shock?

So I say we revise the pistol.

Whateley Cavalry Pistol MkII:

An upgraded version of the Whateley pistol, it uses the energy of the compressed air to move the wheel and bring new bullets into the barrel rather than the more complicated spring system. The new weapon is sturdier, cheaper to manufacture, and doesn't shoot people that aren't in front of the barrel.

We still have the current pistol that will become much more usable if cavalry will have an adequate protection. +all benefits of heavy cavalry that can do wonderful things with enemy

Strategy to replace mediocre weapon with ok weapons, ok weapons with good, good with great is flawed. It can be stolen, it can be countered by other design. It can get poor rolls and be no better than previous weapon in this role.

I prefer every design and revision action to fill different roles, because we have many. Cavalry armor or camo suits or militarising a gunboat will give us something whatever rolls will be.  Fixing the pistol gives us no new tech, may fail completely  and obsoletes one of our current designs

Our current design might as well be useless, what with its tendency to shoot at anyone but the person it's aimed at. We don't have a cavalry weapon, so we ARE filling a different role.

+1. I know I'm being a bit flip-floppy with my votes, but, eh. I don't have a lot of time to devote to this game currently, sadly, so I'm kinda just +1ing whatever looks best.

Armor can mitigate this effect a bit making it a little bit more usable but to be honest I prefer our cavalry to just lance enemy infantry and I am fine to stay without cavalry ranged weapon for a while.

BTW, we should use focus  phase on attacking monarchy through the former lands of fort combe and squashing fort alton. And I believe that heavy artillery is what we need here.

I wouldn't mind stealing the Atterton howitzer for heavier artillery. I still think a working handgun is a better use of the revision. I mean, are you seriously expecting our troops to just armor up and then shoot all over the place, hoping their armour protect them?

Alright, I'm seeing some support for Dragoon armour and improved horse equipment,  is that what you guys want or do you need more discussion?

to move it forward I switch my vote to Whateley Pisto MkII

After all I love funny ahistorical weapons even if I consider them suboptimal strategy-wise

I support a revised Whately, but, erhm, that proposal seems a bit off. The problem is that the wheel is spitting the ammunition all over, simplifying but keeping the wheel as-is seems to be the opposite of a good thing. Simplicity has many very fine qualities, but is not always the best option.

Whateley Cavalry Pistol MkII:
Using the compressed air for chambering makes the pistols cheaper to produce, however you now get less shots per tank. The housing has also been reworked to prevent shots from going in any direction other than out of the barrel. Once the trigger is pulled the pistol will still keep firing until it runs out of air or ammo however. (Expensive)

Whateley Cavalry Pistol MkI obsoleted

Decent roll there. Begin espionage phase.
