Oh, that was better. The dirt plume hurt, but only a little. With the focus on his trigger finger, she was playing a somewhat defensive game. Which meant. . . well, that could probably be construed as going easy on her, but Shef really was interested in trying something out. So, resisting with his trigger finger, he started to weave the energy that would create his portals, stopping just before the final step. There, he did something that could best be described as putting a pin through it, holding it all together without being completed.

Evi had been trying to close the distance earlier, so presumably she had an idea of something to do at close range. On the other hand, most of her skills had been action at a distance that would not be affected much by portals. A toss up, but the urge to experiment lead the man to go with his incomplete portal.

Cache[5] a portal, while trying to push against the telekinesis on Shef's finger to shoot. If he manages to shoot, it will be quarter strength again.

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)

Another shot, and another miss courtesy of the plume. Her telekinesis may be enough to halt your trigger finger, but it can't do it for long enough, she simply lacks the power to affect you for too long. Hurling herself your way again, she drives her hand forwards as she nears, the air shimmering as a lance of psionic force rushes forth seeking to pierce your arm.

Shef smiled as she neared. So she did have something in mind, something that his inert portal might actually be useful for. As Evi neared, Shef waited, and once it looked like she was punching out towards him, he tapped the "pin", allowing the portal to unfurl in the proper location, preferably redirecting the strike to the side. In the mean time, he brought his augmented fist in for a punch to the stomach.

Trigger 1 Cached portal to redirect the incoming attack, then attempt to push in with an exoskeleton enhanced punch. Alter to a 6, burn the first 1.

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)

Portal tears open, and the lance crashes into Evi's side, the impact of the strike... nudging her by like, an inch. So, she still retains some control over it eh? Good to know. Your fist meanwhile doesn't go as well, a telekinetic push nudging it just out of the way to avoid harm as Evi touches down besides you. Flipping it out of her sleeves, the heiress thrusts a stungun towards your side as her body is wreathed in a corona of pale radiance.

[Now Playing: Sugar Skulls]

Several dozen lances erupt forth, shifting and twisting like tentacles aiming for a whole different kind of unpleasantry as they close the gap, seeking to pierce and gouge.

"Oh hey look, a super mode." (Fleur)

That was going to be unpleasant, Shef was certain. Still, he could take it, and Yuki was around to fix any problems. So, he'd stay in here for just a bit.

"Having fun?" His arm having swung past it's target, Shef decided not to pull back for another punch, instead pulling the trigger as quickly as he could, to send a bullet through a portal and then into Evi's stomach. He was gambling that, combined with her stun gun attack and redirecting his punch, she probably wasn't focusing on his trigger finger at the moment.

Shoot through a portal to hit Evi from the front, quarter power.

The stungun now enhanced with spirit energy was an unpleasant jolt. But just a jolt. Bullet slams right into her chest, and the scatter fired lances slam into you. The result? Both of you get send staggering backwards, though it's pretty damn clear who came out on top. Namely the guy who's left standing and without another bullet hole to the chest. Least it's not bleeding as bad as last time.

Evi slowly staggers upright through what is beginning an alarmingly common sensation. "Again... Heal me... I want to continue..." (Evi)

"Christ, how-- Sit down, get healed, then stand up." Shef called out, exasperated. He brushed himself off, tingling, and in some pain as he watched Yuki presumably heal the maid.

"Okay, so, we'll go again. Two things though first. One, what do you want to get out of this? And two, was that a good level? Kept shot power down, and made a few questionable choices, but I wanted to test something out, and give you a chance to get in close, see what you could do there."

Shef
"To... to get stronger. There... there are three reasons why I must get stronger... One: If we're targets... if we're targets now I want to be able to protect everyone! T-two!: S-so that Mary w-won't worry as much... I-I know s-she's always worrying... and if, if this really is the world we live in... she'll just worry more!  And three! Because I can!"
Psychic energy courses through the air as Evi quite literally picks herself back up.
"So please, heal yourself and don't hold back on your choices... help grant this selfish request of mine..."

"Fair. I'll grant it, but two conditions. One, you need to remember, fighting me won't help you strengthen your powers as much as fighting Mononoke and Aramitama. You may gain a bit of strength fighting me, but it will mostly be tactics, battle instincts, and combinations of abilities. You'll need to be satisfied with that." The woman seemed to possess some admirable willpower. If there was a way to get her some more resilience, she could be formidable.

"Second condition. We stop after one more round, for a bit at least. Go over what you've figured out, see what you could have done better, why you did stuff, same for me." Shef raised his arms up, stretching over his head. Presumably he was being healed by Yuki at this point.

"If you're ready, let's go again."

Shef
"Sure, I'll only need one more round..."

She winks and then with a smile drives her fist forwards, hard. Shining filaments of force shine from her fingers, and as they scintillate you see that they are already attached to you, coursing into you, into the same points she pierced with her tendrils.

"Oh, interesting." Shef's first thought was some kind of elastic. A force multiplier to hit the enemy once you've tagged them. One other option was that it was simply a tether to keep them in close range. Could be both of course. He'd use his gun again, since he figured portals wouldn't likely get him away from the tendrils.

This would be a different kind of shot though, one imbued with his will. It wouldn't be active immediately, but when it did, it should carry the same effect as his requiem.

Use Manipulator[5], aiming for Evi's legs. Brace for the hit.

Psionic power tears through the tendrils into you, the jostled aim giving Evi just enough time to dive out the way of your bullet, though she seems sort of, confused about the whole thing? You meanwhile, well, turns out those tendrils didn't magically make you weaker or anything, even with her pumping force in, it really didn't hurt that much.

Evi, kinda just, starts backing away a bit?

Shef too backed away. Either the outcome had surprised Evi, or this was yet more setup. What with her confidence, he was leaning towards the latter. Since he was quite confident that he had the advantage at range, backing up made sense.

Once he was a bit away, he fired a few more low power shots. Poking and prodding the defenses.

Shef fires three quarter strength shots.

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)
[Now Playing: Sugar Skulls]

You fire your bullets, and they shatter, every single one of them. They barely leave the barrel and then, they're just dust in the wind.

Evi points her open palm towards you, and you feel that unease again, that instinctive feeling telling you that she was about to strike.

This must be some form of lockdown effect. Numerous possibilities, could be an effect on the him, maybe an effect on his ability to create magical energy, or it could be a shield that stopped fast moving objects around him. Or it could be any number of other things. He needed to test it.

In a swift motion, Shef drew the five-seven, and held it up to fire in his right hand. In rapid succession, he fired off four shots. Two with each gun, one each enhanced to about the quarter of his normal power, and one in each gun left entirely unmodified.

Fire one quarter power and one mundane shot each at Evi from the five-seven and the RAM. Alter to a 4.
