Don't eat ghosts, that's how we got into this mess to begin with.

YOU wake up after bad dreams.
Strap on your GASMASK.
Ascend the crane.

Three locations stand out to YOU.

BURNT FIELDS
A collective farm of BARLEY, grown up twisted and wrong. Maybe there's still something to HARVEST?

ROTTEN WELL
The town well is POISON. A stalker tried venturing down there. Perhaps his body still has some GOOD SHIT.

TWO HILLS
GUNFIRE. Screams. An explosion. Bodies ENCIRCLED by crows and a Victopian drone. Maybe you can slip and slide between its ever watched scanner.

Where shall you go?

Id say go to the barley fields and see if there's any more crows there since you can talk with animals you might as well try to befriend some. It's a shame we didn't a chance to grab one of the crows from the saw mill yesterday. With them being blind it would be hard for them to get around easily to be able to get food. Plus since they are blind there other senses may be much better and having a crow that can hear/smell much better than you perching on your shoulder in exchange for feeding is is a good deal. There's plenty of dead stuff around to give to it but for it to get it safely on its own should be hard.

I was gonna pick a different one, but you're right, BURNT FIELDS is probably the one with the best odds of ANIMAL FRIENDSHIP

+1 to BURNT FIELDS and ANIMAL FRIENDSHIP

TWO HILLS
GUNFIRE. Screams. An explosion. Bodies ENCIRCLED by crows and a Victopian drone. ....

Wait the TWO HILLS has crows. So we know that there are some there. It seems like TWO HILLS is way riskier than BURNT FIELDS due to the drone. But we aren't sure the BURNT FIELDS will have crows / other useful animals. Also could the crows be useful in somehow reducing the danger of the drone? My vote is still with BURNT FIELDS currently but i thought i mention it in case anybody had any good ideas to mitigate the danger of the drone.

To the BURNT FIELDS you will go.

Crashed cropdusters RUST in the sunlight, their pilots FUSED TO THE FUSELAGE.
Rows of BURNT BARLEY, growing up in spirals.
Smells like MOONSHINE baking in the fields.

Some ANIMALS are here, taking what they can from these dying lands.
Who to BEFRIEND?

A. PIGS. Their needs are simple. Their disfigurements bearable. And there's a lot of them.
B. CROW. Just one, but they're wiser than pigs, and can fly. They're harder to impress, which is more of a quality than a drawback.
C. A third option, if you can think of one.

PIGS! In our line of work a good sense of smell can come in much handier than a pair of good eyes.

I personally suggest we go for the crow since having a flying scout would be very handy. A pig would have a better sense of smell but it isn't really useful when out wandering the wasteland since having a pig tag along with you would be a nuisance since they aren't agile enough for some terrain. While if needed you could just carry the crow. So the pigs sense of smell would be good for defending our home or scouting not to far from it. Plus crows don't leave tracks on the ground. I personally vote CROW since we are at our most vulnerable when exploring the wasteland and they are much better for that.

Pigs'd be pretty great friends to have in a huge twisted barley field that you can't see into very well.

A birds eye view would also help you get a good idea about your surroundings in the field. Plus Since there are lots of pigs if we fail to tame the crow we could just go for them after.

CROW stares at you with black eyes and white feathers, perched on a collapsed telephone pole poking out of the barley, CONSUMED by it.
"What?" they ask from your wrist, as they caw.

The VISITORS made certain animals HAUGHTY AND ABOVE THEIR STATIONS. Others they made RABID AND CRAZED.
Scientists in the WORLD GOVERNMENT suspected a pattern we can't quite see.
STALKERS believe there is none at all.

Which is worse?

"I need friends," you say.
"Clearly," it says.
"Will you be my friend?" you ask.
"No," it says.

A. Show your merits as a servant. You have fingers. Hands. Thumbs.
B. Find common ground. You are ALONE. So is the CROW. Warning: crows are haughty and PROVING you're an equal will require PROVING IT.
C. A third option, if you can think of one one.

B. This crow is intelligent. We don't want to lock yourself into servitude.
