A ship comes in to the Chamark Haven, a recently founded port (if you decide to use the word loosely) on the isle of Charmark. Charmark is a island of great secrets as it seems to contain dungeons of an unknown precursor civilization. Off the ship come a few gentlemen (and ladies) of means and a larger number of unfortunate souls who had to indenture themselves to afford the voyage. A spirit of adventure drives both nonetheless, for it is known that the local guides will take you to an abandoned ruin, potentially full of treasure, for but a string of beads. A fortune can be made here as readily as a life can be lost. 
This is a reboot of the previous VbT theread.

Servitude is now gone- once bought adventurers are your slaves until they die.
Armor calculation is more straightforward.
You may now move before attacking whether your attack is ranged or melee. (Thus making agility more important)
All engine upgrades from the end of the last thread are incorporated, obviously.

What is this: This is a Risky Venture style game. You are one of the lucky few who came ashore with their freedom intact, and start with 3 Florins (₣) and nothing else (You can copy the 'Starter Items' spoiler below and rename as necessary) Your job is to buy slaves Adventurers and then outfit them to go on Expeditions to various locations.

This game is Lazy Fair, which here means that I'm going to be extremely lazy. I expect you to manage your own assets and keep them up to date. While I will provide you with the results of various actions and arbitrate disputes, it is my goal to do as little as possible. This is both to avoid burnout and to let you guys go a bit nuts with how you interact.

To facilitate this, please tag @ACTACTACT any time you want to take an action you want me to pay attention to. If you don't use the tag, and I miss your actions for the turn, it's your own fault.

Game Mechanics

As the game progresses, you gain access to various Locations that where you can send an Expedition. An expedition consists of one or more Adventurer, who may come from various players or player coalitions. Each expedition has a cost, which represents the expense in supplies of getting each Adventurer to that particular location, and this fee must be paid for every Adventurer in the expedition.
Unless stated otherwise, each location can be sent multiple expeditions.

Each expedition is a string of Events:

• Foraging: You get some minor loot.
• Chests: pass a stat and item test to get significantly more loot
• Traps: pass a stat test or take damage (or, possibly later, debuffs)
• Encounters: kill enemies and get their loot

(all skill tests are on a standard "roll-under" system. You roll a d20 and must get a number less than a particular stat to succeed)

Combat works as follows:
There are a number of rounds, usually 100, during which first all the adventurers move, then all the adversaries.
On their turn a combatant may attack and/or move. If they do both, they can only travel half as far.
A combatant in melee may only use melee attacks, while a combatant not in melee may only use ranged attacks.
(It is currently impossible to select a specific target for these attacks, but it may be added in the future if the game takes off)
Melee attacks are strength checks, you must roll under your strength modified by enemy armor class in order to hit them. If you do, damage is rolled. (there is currently no way to reduce damage)
Ranged attacks are dexterity checks, modified by distance- the more range increments away the enemy is (rounded down) the higher the penalty, but are otherwise like melee attacks.
You may specify at what range you would like to begin firing and at what range you would like to stay away from your enemies.
Combat is won when there are no more enemies, lost when there are no more adventurers and tied if neither side wins after the time limit.
In order to prevent exploiting draws, preferred range can never be more be more than firing range, and is auto-set to 0 if you have no ammo or no ranged weapon at all.

• Agility: how far an adventurer can move, as well as how good they are at avoiding traps
• Armor: decreases probability of getting hit
• Carry capacity: how much gear an adventurer can carry
• Constitution: how resistant to trap effects an adventurer is, additionally adventurers with <7 Consitution get -1 Max HP per level, while those with ≥13 and ≥16 get +1 and +2 respectively.
• Dexterity: how well an adventurer can use ranged weapons.
• HP: current hit points. If this reaches 0, adventurer dies.
• HP Max: maximum possible HP
• Level: how seasoned the adventurer is. gaining levels allows increasing stats and HP.
• Name: what you call the adventurer. Adventurers will accept name changes with requisite humility.
• Strength: how well an adventurer can use melee weapons.
• XP: how experienced an adventurer is, collect enough of it and you will gain a level.

• Weight: how much carry capacity the weapon takes to carry and use
• Damage: the amount of damage a weapon can deal, expressed as XdY+Z, where X is the amount of dice being rolled, Y is how many sides they have and Z is a constant modifier.
• AC: attribute correction is added (or subtracted, if negative) to the governing stat before the roll
• Piercing: how good the weapon is at avoiding armor. None- normal armor, Half- only needs to beat half of the Armor, Full- ignore armor, and Double- enemy Armor is doubled.

Additionally for ranged weapons:

• Range Increment: how good your weapon is at longer ranges: for each full range increment the enemy is away from you, you suffer a -1 penalty on your Dexterity.
• Ammo/Ammo Max: how much ammo the weapon has/comes with.
• Reload: how long in turns do you have to reload the weapon.

All items have a Weight (how much carry capacity it takes to carry) and a Value (how much you will get selling it to the store.) Consumable Items have a limited amount of Uses.

There are 2 ways to buy something (or someone):
You can bid on it: bidding starts at the listed price and proceeds by adding 10% of the item's starting price (rounded down) to the previous bid.
Or you can buy it outright: pay double the current (or minimum) bid to get the item right now.
Services, being nearly infinite can just be bought for the listed price.

Once an Expedition is complete, if an adventurer gains enough XP, they will gain a level.
At each level up an adventurer gains 1d6 HPMax (and HP) modified by their Constitution stat. Additionally they will gain 1 point in a stat of your choice.

You may submit orders by PM if you wish, additionally if you don't want to change orders, you don't need to resubmit them every turn (but you can.)
Every time you need to pick up some loot, a random position is picked on the loot table. However most loot tables have an 'again' outcome, which means "discard this roll, and roll twice on the same table", which is what allows you to receive multiple items from one loot drop. There is no natural limit to how much stuff you can get, however receiving more than about 40 items is impossible (not to mention absurdly unlikely) due to stack overflow.
If 2 or more adventurers are in a fight together, you may designate them as front and back row. Back row adventurers will not try to outrun the front row ones, if there are any.
You may designate a certain amount of hit points below which the adventurer will stop adventuring. This is useful if you don't want your adventurer to get into fights with little to no HP. Note that this is only checked after the fight/trap and is no guarantee of your adventurer's survival.
You can't wear 2 backpacks. You also generally can't wear 2 armors, unless it's clear they will not hinder each other (So you can't wear Hide Armor with Leather Armor, but you could with a hypothetical Ring of Deflection)

Making this data public (to be displayed in the second post) can be quite lucrative- Charmark authorities set aside a small sum to be paid for such information. You learn from the natives of a powerful precursor artifact called the Great Pearl of Charmark. Some legends say it is the ultimate weapon, others that it allows one to transcend this dimension. Sceptics say that it is a bauble of purely symbolic significance. One thing is clear: whoever finds it will secure a place in history as some of the greatest tomb raiders archeologists who ever lived, while all others will be forgotten. (finding GPC is the win condition of the game)

Description:  A knee-high green blob, with a slimy leathery 'surface', and a formless gooey inside. Doesn't have eyes, yet can somehow sense movement, and will (slowly- top speed 5ft) approach those who encounter it. Its feeble strikes are easily avoided, and a single good swing with a sword can cleave right through it. Striking with too much force results in the goo being scattered, making retrieval harder. Gathering it is recommended, as the goo appears to be similar to Fennland Jelly- probably useful for alchemy.
PS: Bring some rags to clean it off of hands and clothing.

Description: A vicious predator that has made the depths of the Overgrown Cave its lair. I suspect it was imported to serve as a guard animal, given the crude warning sign located just outside its lair. A single bite of its strong jaws is enough to rip out the throat of an unprepared adventurer, as my companion unfortunately discovered. Its fur is luxurious, if somewhat filthy from living in a damp cave for a long time.

Fluff: Early experiments have shown that slime goo has disinfecting and minor analgesic properties if applied to the skin. Though it is impractical to stuff goo in your wounds, it is theorized that taking a bath in goo and saltwater solution will hasten recovery of wounds both combat and surgical.

Description: Located in the hills overlooking Charmark Haven are a series of caves. Before the Imperial Navy arrived to annex the island, these caves were used by smugglers and pirates as hideouts. Though they have now all departed, in their haste they left behind a few chests, as well as scattered woodworking supplies (once used to maintain ships). Anyone can visit the caves; they are visible from town, and are rarely deadly to prepared adventurers. The more frail types might want to watch out for the fauna.
The caves are full of luminescent fungi, moss, and a curious type of vine (that wind their way up/down the ubiquitous stalagmites/stalactites) graced by small purple flowers. There are no traps to be found, although you can train yourself to watch your step by trying to avoid stepping on any of the rubbish left behind by the previous occupants.

A note on unbought adventurers (veteran players will already know this): adventurers that haven't been picked will be discounted in future rounds (in case of level 1 adventurers by 0.5₣ per day).
