Apparently I need to teach Vector to survive in the cold. It's been 40F colder this week than it is currently in Berkeley, CA. I went outside in shorts and sandals.

T_T

But... inside... in the place where it is supposed to be warm.  Seriously.  Houses should equal warm.  Outside cold is fine, but I like to be toasty in refuge-spots.

As of today in Eastern Washington, the high was 15* Fahrenheit outdoors, 43 indoors. Of course, I'm not doing much better than Vector. It's kind of hard to type with gloves on, even the really thin cloth ones.

Dear, I hate to tell you this, but 55 is warm.

Also, Barbar, my embark seems to be a little warmer than yours at the moment.

Berkeley is pretty much always covered with fog, and we've been having some serious thunderstorms over the past couple of days.

Yes California is quite drenched right now. I just had some sort of existential crisis and took a walk through all the rain and squishy stuff. It was awesome, but I don't know if I'm less depressed or not yet.

And Vector, I guess I've been out of the loop, I didn't know you got into Berkeley. Congratulations! You seem like a perfect fit. :)

For a self aware search engine, that is a marvelous CG image.

What's that you say, honey?  Christmas has been cancelled?  And I never get to eat anything I like again?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!  Say it isn't so!

Ah, yeah, I'm actually a second-semester sophomore in the pure math department ^_^;;

But thanks!  It's always good to hear something like that.

55 Fahrenheit is (googlegoogle) 13 degrees Celsius!? And that's *cold*?!?
On the other hand, Vector does have a large surface-to-volume ratio, lives on a caloric deficit, and mostly spends those calories in her head (which acts as a giant cooling fin as well).

Thaw is outside! Yay! Biking through snow is Effing Hard.

When the yearly temperature range is from 8-45 celsius, 13 is cold.

55 is crisp, but it's far from cold.  I can handle probably 10-20 in a t-shirt and shorts as long as I'm not out for long and my feet stay dry.

55 is cold in an uninsulated California house with drafts, when you own no clothing more than 1/16th of an inch thick.  Trust me--I've had random conversations with Swiss traveling professors, who complain about the (extremely well-heated) math building and that "at least in Europe, they know how to insulate things."  I've had professors from even colder countries show up and lecture in thick knit sweaters, scarves, and hats, and I don't have the benefit of all that heat-generating muscle dudes have, or a helpful middle-aged full-body fat layer.  This is in Evans, in a warmer part of the year (i.e. Spring, rather than Winter).  Evans is heated.  Evans at least pretends to care about the people living in it.  When you bring a heated beverage into Evans, it doesn't immediately go as cold as tap water.

I swear that saying "living" rather than "working" was a complete accident.

I've walked around when it was 4C outside with a tanktop and shorts on, and neither shivers nor complaints.  I didn't feel it, in fact.  The person I was walking with needed an enormous down jacket over a sweatshirt and hat.  This person also, once again, actually had some reasonable muscle mass.

All that is very different from sitting still in one place, trying to work.

Go ahead, take away my man card.  I won't stop you.
