IMO, Lazy Newb Pack should include optional mod to reduce the amount of tree types, body parts and clothing, to increase FPS on slow computers.
Like what Masterwork does.
I cannot stress enough how amazing it would be for LNP to include this.
This would be amazing. Or barring that, maybe someone with a bit more DF-knowledge giving some tips on how to implement it myself, after setting other options in LNP?

I see absolutely no reason for this.
This isn't Get Dwarf Fortress To Run On My Really Old PC Pack. :9

And I do see many reasons why it would be detrimental, the least of which is that it makes the game seem more simple than it really is, to the newbs.
Hence the option to turn it off.

Don't be ridiculous.
First, It's *optional*. You don't want those features? Leave them like they are (off)
Second, the aforementioned changes (and may others) have nothing to do with the difficulty of the game.
Third, DF low fps are present in every PC (It all depends on what you have in your fortress)

At 140 dwarves and every FPS-improvement trick I know (admittedly not as many as I'd like), I'm chugging along at 40-50fps. Playable, sure, but that drops to 25 on sieges, which is less so.

I have an intel i5 (non-hyperthreaded, so no fake cores), and 6GB of ram. I think that should be about as ideal as you can get for DF without specialized equipment.

Though the single core thing hurts, even non-hyperthreaded. It's arguable that the game runs better on the aforementioned Really Old PC.

I'm running it with a Phenom II X3 705e, with the 4th core unlocked and all cores OC'd to 3ghz....and I'm getting about the same performance as you mentioned. whats weird is I get about the same even with a 5 x 5 embark at least so far. One of my Ram sticks died though so I only have a 2 ghz stick. My fps drops to about 15 in some situations.

Gore which I then place into the coffin,

I run on a toaster, and it keeps my OCD in check really.
And any mods and such will (hopefully) soon be easily add-able with the LNP.

I dont know if you'll accept my suggestion but I have hope.

You have a mouse based variant... could you get a gamepad(controller) version working? :D

it would have to be simplified of course.  A couple of menu's would have to change their function.

My guess : soon. Stonesense is packed with DFHack, and Japa anounced a 34.11 version in a day or two.

Killing dwarves is so much fun. Heck, even the dwarves agree, else they wouldn't kill themselves so often.

God, I cannot wait for DFHack to be back.  I forgot how nice vdig is; the other utilities I've realized, for the most part, I enjoy the challenge more without them, but it's so nice to hit magnetite and just designate the vein outright and let my miners go wild.

I'm just gonna point out that I'm not actually a DFhack dev, so I don't know for sure, but I just know from hanging in the DFHack chatroom that things seemed to be going in a release-ish direction.

You could use xpadder presently to achieve this effect. It also supports filter buttons, so you could set the shoulder buttons to say change back and forth between multiple joypad button profiles.

I've done it to good effect on nethack and such, and tried it once or to with df, but for df you'd have to really think to get a nice and functional layout...

I've never had a good experience with joy2key, but you could use the Steel Batallion controller. :P
