Frankly, though, it's easier to learn how to build a miasma containment chute, then just mix the stone, rood and such together. The dwarves have no trouble separating the items, so you might as well take advantage of that fact.

Im always up for learning!

I found a sun roof to be a easier option then the bone pit.

i remember my first fortress  8)

my advice is this: first invest in some doors, at least for your dwarves bedrooms to block some sound and also make them more private, second: as far as i can see you dont have a still (gasp!) if you want to go anywere with this fort then build one and start brewing as fast as you can, finally: move that wood stockpile inside! you cant have your dwarves running outside just to make a bed!

This

My advice to you is to remember to think three-dimensionally when planning out your forts, because going up or down the stairs counts as one step. You can dramatically increase efficiency by stacking rooms on different floors rather than laying them all out on the same level.

Get that butcher working is what you need to do. But first check the descritption of each animal and save the ones that have incredible muscles as they will yeild more meat and can pass this trait onto their offspring.

BAH!!! the only "weak muscled" one is gigantic. I have a thin one and all else are average... like the game does NOT describe them at ALL (cept' color of eyes and the like). offing to two if no objections...

The trick with controling hauling stuff, is to turn off the hauling labors on dwarves you don't want getting distracted, and specialize your idle haulers once you get a set number. The reason for this, is that dwarves will claim items for hauling even if they are in the middle of a hauling job (if you have 20 idle haulers, and you need 20 stone and 20 wood hauled, you may see 10 haulers moving wood and 10 moving stone, but each wood hauler has claimed a stone for hauling and vice versa. If you set it so 10 of them are wood haulers and 10 of them stone haulers, then the woods will stick to their wood and the stones to stone).

A man would see that as a difficult challenge.
An elf would see that and despair.
A dwarf would see that and say, "Bring it on."

Now the poisen will hang around forever, killing those exposed to it for to long, so even trying to reembark is impossible. At this point you should see how much longer you can maintain your fort, its realy hard, and therefor fun.
