I've never gone into any moongates. What do i stand to gain and lose by entering them? How dangerous is it?

So are there any complete/semicomplete English versions of Elona+, preferably with a link? My Japanese is extremely rusty, considering I took 4 years of it in high school (and am now 5 years past that) and I wouldn't mind being able to play a tweaked version of the game, though my track record with it tended to be horrendous.

The best you're going to get with Elona+ is all vanilla stuff translated and some of of the new stuff translated or translated but with somewhat noticeable mistakes. Just download the standard Elona+ and chose the english option when it starts up.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

In vanilla Elona, the possibility of encountering (almost) infinite wishes. And the occasional cNPC crystal, allowing you to bring their exclusive creatures to your world.

In Elona+, the wishing thing has been removed, and bubble rooms are near useless anyway (you don't want to be gaining levels).

English version keeps most of North Tyris translated. Some (extremely few) lines are translated, but as Tarran has said, there are a lot of errors in the text.

It's still worth getting because of its tweaks anyway.

What can I get from moongates in Elona+ then? Do I incur the usual penalties for dying in a moongate?

Which deeds are better to get first? Should I start with a ranch, a shop, a museum, or a better house? Should I be actively trying to improve my house rank?

House rank just makes your salary better. I'm not sure if it affects more than just gold, but it makes your tax cheaper, in a sense.

A ranch is worth having if you can tame a creature that can breed fast and produce stat-boosting corpses like putits, ghosts, and hands of the dead. You should consider making a rabbit ranch to farm for their fluffy tails that, if ingested, will increase luck by one.

A museum is a better choice than a shop to have first, because in museums, all you need to do is to design a wide area and put figures and cards in it, which will improve your salary quickly due to 50gp per rank, whereas shops need a good negotiator with high charisma in order to sell items with a nice bonus in price, which are pretty hard to come by (the slave master sells good starter shopkeepers; it just takes some leveling up in order to get them, which you may not want). And of course, the best way to get item stock is to loot dungeons, which isn't an easy endeavor.

If someone used a potion of descent and then leveled up again, would they get another 5 points to spend on skills?

I don't think so. If you use the potion at a level you get a feat you don't get and extra for example.

Nice! Thanks for testing it. Seems like a nice method to get some free training in for a skill.

Assuming you get a pair of pretty rare potions of descent and a bunch of holy water in the first place. :P

Why would you waste the holy water to regain the level? just drop your level a bunch of times with all the potions... it'll go back up on its own soon enough.

So if you see Savannah dying a lot, that'd be me. She's... not the best character. All she can do is prostitute and gun low level monsters down.

(you don't want to be gaining levels).
People keep saying this, but why?
From all I can tell, gaining levels is a good thing, especially in E+.
