FallacyofUrist: You seem convinced that Magma has an ulterior motive for trading. How convinced are you? What's the %chance that Magma honestly just thinks that trading is a really good idea?

Mm, 20-30%? If I was merely interested in trading, I'd just discuss the mechanic and hint at what I might be willing to trade, try and bait out the players who are also interested.

I'm not sure why Magma, if they just want to trade, would make a mega-trade post like that, and moreover, would make sharing of information conditional on trading.

It does seem like there's an ulterior motive, but there's not really enough information to say what.

It's also probably not alignment indicative, but does seem worth paying attention to, for how it develops.

Hmm, I think you may have misread the rules. While players can deliberately choose to receive duplicates before game start, that's not the same thing as everyone being guaranteed to have a duplicate.

I do see the utility in trading, I'm just curious why you've decided to go about it like this.

I could have asked if anybody wanted to trade, asked them what they were willing to offer, blah blah blah. But that's boring and takes forever. Plus, someone might be more enticed by a blind trade that I'm forced into accepting. It's more fun this way.

Even if someone picked to give themself 5 duplicates, like if I chose to start with 5 'optimally overpowered' ... I had to choose that before I knew what the actual effects of 'optimally overpowered' are.

If they all ended up focused on 'making me wish I'd chosen something else' ... I could have 5 items I want to trade for -literally anything else-.

I also could have... or Mater could have, materia that can be equipped that may do stuff based on previous-day trade numbers.  If such exists.  Again, I spec.  If Mater one member of a scum team, this could be useful for group info collection purpose too.  There's likely other benefits both town and maf sided.

Anyone can spend materia on meta use (unless there's some cool mech preventing that for someone) so even horrible materia - except maybe there's some materia that has an effect if spent as meta   I dunno how that would work, since they seem likely inert themselves unless equipped.  Still... who knows what to actually consider impossible, I bet it could matter.

Tric:  Focused on 'Mastery'.  Doing some odd stuff with minds, probably in the name of mastery.  By the way, Tric.  I don't know the game info you're focused on, glanced at the link for the Command Mastery.  Still feel like I don't get much; presume I do not catch any game-specific reference.  You don't have to clue me in, just know I am legit clueless and likely to interpret based on frames I do have.  I note asked about

My question is Meta: Who here submitted Steal, Clone, Commend, Propagate, Ban, Void-Gaze, and/or Sugar, and what do they do?

- 'Sugar', we do have candy materia.
- 'Propagate' we do have 'Thunderous Propagation'
- 'Commend' is weird - unless 'Silver Star' - which one can be awarded as a commendation?  Otherwise, relates MAYBE to 'Master Command', is off by 1 letter.  Commend means to praise or present as suitable.  If that side, 'Monstrous Alliance' (worthy of alliance?) with 'Master Summon' and 'Master Magic' also relating through worth; 'Beer' (buy them a beer?); 'Light' (In light of accomplishments); 'Robin' ('Batman and' involves much praise)
- 'Void-Gaze' is interesting.  Many possibles:  ''Ng ゥ$◣ 8qZ' (I feel like I gaze into a void when I look at this); 'Ghost' (probably has a void-gaze'); 'Immateria' (can't touch it, it is void?); 'Psychic Silence' (probably not, but it seems not totally unconnected as a concept)
- 'Ban' maybe 'Anathema' (I would ban someone who did an Anathemic thing, but it can literally be banning from a church
- 'Clone' maybe 'Multiply'
- 'Steal' maybe 'Strategic Accretion' (gradual growth through mergers and acquisitions, possibly); Ferret (Ferrets steal/stash stuff, major behavior)

So Tric opens with something weird he says is a misunderstanding of how the rules work... or some other information.  Absolutely turns on Mater for spamming a mass trade any materia for any materia from anyone, doesn't directly comment on Mater's RP post, but the sum of Mater's attitude is 'suffocating', and says doesn't trust it. Interesting flavor of Tric.

Mater... interesting flavor of Mater too. Opens with a strongly biased both pro and anti self, both pro and anti protagonist, moderate length roleplay-like post.  I want to say this opener maybe has more to do with out of game than in game stuff, but unsure.  Has woven in clues about actual starting materia (perhaps true, I didn't try to parse for that.  I am okay with not knowing, the recursive anathema whatever... it sure bugs me but does it ruin? Really, it's okay, don't explain it).

Very mech focused, very out of game social focused but not really so far that I can see appearing to play the in game standard focus (sometimes doesn't though).  Venting stress too, maybe.

Elephant Parade, she's doing great!  Amazing feel.  Throwing my instinctual initial 'this is just town' nod here, great work to trigger that, EP.  Biggest thing to describe I see in the play is 'super polite', but not feeling careful either.  I mean, her opening post says how good she feels?  But I believe her, my empathy side says "feels so real".  And the deeper feel feels real too, very nice.  Playing towards clarity, asking useful and meaningful questions, inclusive, challenging ideas in a good way.

Neat question.  I am probing and considering/exploring/reacting to everyone.  I don't wanna build a mental model that has 2 fewer folks in it than actually exist.  So I drag them along and how I feel/think about each too, because they are not 'null' to me, even without posting.

Zemaj, Interesting.  First post feels real and confident.  2nd post similar, but less so.  By the 3rd of 4 posts made so far, I get a semi-defensive + 'I want/need to fit in though' feel.  Will watch more.  Sidenote, can be different without being wrong; can learn and compare others' ways without either being incorrect, just different, can even compare advantages and disadvantages of each.

Huh.  Trying to guess your materia is interesting, not gonna at this time.  Other than clearly you're smart and picked materia that must somehow be 'optimally overpowered', unless you chose not to... why force a trade with you anyway, even given the low odds.

Verm continues to be my precious Verm, no matter what alignment he is.  Which is believably likely to be town.  Eager to hear more of whatever Verm decides to discuss as time passes, no rush or specific prompt.

FoU:  Probably town.  Please everyone stop killing FoU early on; I think this is a good game to not elim FoU D1 unless really we can't find someone more likely.  This FoU is fine for D1, let's discuss if this changes.  FoU, if you're maf, definite progress, keep progressing.

Crystal:  Interesting.  Eager to hear more from.  If we can't figure out anyone more scummy than FoU, again.  Maybe here?  Just a suggestion.  We haven't even heard from Gail yet.

Toons: Is deep in RVS still, which is totally okay, it's very early and weekend too.  Huh.  If I were forced right now to elim between FoU and Toons?  FoU would live.

You did this whole thing last game. You may have been town, but far too much talk was wasted. This feels like the exact same thing of knowing more than us and lording it over our heads.
