You are about to open the chest when you hear the door opposite to you creak open ever so slightly. You whirl around to see a single eye peeking from out of the doorway.

"Hello?"

This will be interesting.

You stride through the nearest door and enter a pastel blue room with a small crate in the center. You try opening it, but the damnable thing is sealed shut. Besides the crate, the room has a door leading who knows where and a light encased in steel grating. Under the light, you find a rivet. It's bent to the point of uselessness.

You flip off the panel, glaring angrily. After making sure your sentiment towards the damnable thing is clearly expressed, you open the not-so-well hidden door and sneak through it. What you see is a small room, well lit, with 4 doorways made of a strange dark glass - (5) you recognize it as the sort of glass that can be seen through only on one side. You seem to be able to see through it. In the center of the room is a strange machine oddly reminiscent of an automatic food vendor. It's rather large and securely bolted to the floor. It has a single coin slot with an image of a knife above the slot, as well as a dispensary slot at the bottom.

You open the door normally. Inside is... utter darkness. It's pitch black inside, and who knows what lurks in the shadows. A little bit of light from the room you currently occupy shines in, revealing what looks like a small crate at the lit edge of the dark room. For reasons already mentioned, you're unable to discern how many doors the room may hold...

You suddenly hear a crackle. You peer into the darkness...

It lights up. A light on the ceiling turns on, illuminating the room. Inside are two doors - a large door sits at the back of the room, and a smaller one is to your left. The door at the back of the room is already open a crack.

You search the room...

In the middle of your searching, you step on something that gives way a little bit. You look down, and hear a click. Much to your chagrin, it seems that you've stumbled upon a pressure plate. The door behind you begins to close, and a small metal construct drops down from the ceiling, cogs grinding as it lumbers towards you. It's about the size of a cat. However, at the same time, you hear the fizzle of a circuit turning on.

You peer through the door on the right. (4 vs. 1) You're very quiet as you open the door. You see someone repeatedly kicking a panel on the wall of this room with great vigor. After a few kicks, they give up,
make an obscene gesture directed at the wall, and step towards another section of the wall. You think they're about to begin kicking again when they activate a well-hidden handle. The "wall" slides open, and the wall-kicker steps inside. The panel closes again.

You duck into a corner of the room as the turret rumbles. It pivots a few degrees, waits a few seconds, and pivots again. You wait for it to point away from you... (6) and roll behind a small crate, the nearest observable cover. You peek out to observe the room, but part of your view is blocked by the turret from this angle. What you can see is a door at the opposite side of the room, a pile of boxes in the corner to your left (you came in from the right) and a bottle of strange liquid at the corner directly opposite yours. You don't notice any explicitly disposable items, although there may be something of use in the boxes.

You hesitate a second before making up your mind on what to do.

The other person rockets upwards, their attention no longer directed at the chest. They search for the source of the sound, and their eyes rest upon you.

(4) You cut your hand on the rivet. A drop of blood hits the floor. Another. Another. After a short while, a small pool of blood sits under you. You stop your bleeding and gaze at the pool. It undulates like the life-giving waters of the river. It looks into you, seeing all, and you look back into it, awestruck.

You smile. The river favors you. You feel as if something has changed for the better, although you aren't quite sure what that is.

You walk around the machine and peer through the glass door behind it. It leads into a room, seemingly a dead end, with a pair of crates in it! One is open, one seems bolted shut. You go through the door and look in the open crate.

You rush into the room... (3) you enter the room just in time to hear a burst of gunfire and a shout. You whirl around and see a door, slowly closing from the top down. Inside, you can see movement, but are unable to discern what it is.

You duck into the shadows...

(3 vs. 1)

Just in time to avoid a burst of gunfire from the machine. You're about to attack it when you hear a crash. A figure kicks open the door leading to the darkened room, and slides into the room you were in a moment ago. Your attention turns back to the machine trying to kill you. You leap to the side, and the machine struggles to turn and face you. You prepare to deliver a final blow...

(4 vs. 2)

Your knife buries itself inside the construct. It breaks down, and you stab it again. There's no time to examine it for anything useful - you think the other person noticed you.

You wait a moment before entering the room via the secret door. Sure enough, it's empty, and there are no signs that anyone ever entered. Inside is another dispensary machine like the one you passed earlier, although this one has an open metal flap. This room has four doors, one of which is the door you entered from. Each door is on a wall - one is to your right, one to your left, one in front of you, and the one you entered from behind. You're somehow able to look out of them as if they were a window, although you could not see into the door you entered from on the outside. Through the door directly in front of you, you manage to catch a glimpse of movement.

A bullet hits the wall behind you as you duck from cover to cover. You rummage through the pile of boxes you now hide behind...

Inside, you find some very useful equipment.

Incendiary grenade - +2 ranged, explodes into chemical fire, may minorly injure user
Flare gun - +1 ranged, can light things on fire, quiet
Flare x 2 - Flare gun ammo

However, you don't get a moment's solace before another burst of gunfire erupts. You drop down as bullets tear through the boxes...

(1 vs. 4)

You grimace as a bullet grazes your shoulder. The wound isn't serious, but it's still a wound nonetheless. When the gunfire ceases, you run over to the bottle and pick it up.

Bottle of Magical Mystery Liquid - a very mysterious clear liquid with a watery consistency.

Sneak along the edges of the walls and between cover until I reach the door on the opposite side. Then quickly go through the door to get out of range of the turret and close the door behind me. Afterward, inspect the room I'm in. If I see another person, throw my incendiary grenade at him and rush to cover.

(Does the minor injury give me some sort of penalty to my rolls?)
