Roll To Dodge / GODS PLAY DICE
« on: August 17, 2023, 04:32:13 pm »
You are omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and omnibenevolent. So are the other players.

At present, nothing exists. Including you and the other players. Though this fact does not preclude you from being omnipotent.

Also, being omnipotent does not preclude your actions from being subject to the whim of d6 die:
1: Trust the plan
2: *Disappears in a puff of logic*
3: Well, that was a disappointment
4: True neutral
5: TRUST THE PLAN
6: Hmm, what if...

Roll To Dodge / just a quick poll

Somewhat curious how RTDers fall between fantasy and sci-fi. I've generally seen more games which fall into the former category.

Been trying to prep work for an RTD more in the fantasy side of things but wondering if the tech level I'd decided on constrains things too much and makes wizards mandatory. After all blowing stuff up with your brain is usually going to be more effective than any amount of swording things in the face. Compare to something like Einsteinian Roulette where magic was broken in its own way, but was still a bit of a tradeoff with normal guns because normal guns blow things the fuck up with magnets.

Currently (or in the most recent version with adventure mode) when making an adventurer or party the player can define their character's personality. This involves a lot of scrolling and picking points on a slider for each facet, and it might be easy to lose track of what it all means for your adventurer.
One interesting idea to make this less tedious, or at least more fun, would be to have the player answer a series of questions, like "what would you do in this situation" which is then used to generate personality facets.
This should be optional of course if the player wants to just get into the game, and there should still be the option to see all the facets and adjust them how one likes.

This same system might be used to create an adventurer's actual life history at some point. Similar to the choose-your-own-adventure style questions when starting an LCS game.

Roll To Dodge / Driftwould: Tangled Chaos
« on: January 24, 2023, 12:32:25 am »
(Inspired by nostalgia for the glorious Sand & Souls. So let's just shamelessly copy that and see what we get!)

If it's not clear from that statement, this is an RTD god game. You play as beings with broad powers of creation which are still physical and killable.

Spoiler: mechanics (click to show/hide)

Cold. Cramped. Frozen.
Even as your body and essence are encased and helpless, your perception is free of bounds and wanders and charts.
The world is comprised of two halves. One is frozen water; ice. In this impossibly cold medium you are frozen. Below is more ice, on and on and more and more ice below.
Above is the air. The sky. On and on and forever more sky above. Yet the sky is dark and blank.
Will this be forever, you wonder. Were you meant to be stuck here, observing the cracks in the ice, gazing at the black sky, forever?

Of course not.

From boundless below, heat trickles, suffuses up and up. Ice melts, churning into infinitely more chaotic streams of water.
Your essence is freed from the cold and quickly spikes into a body, a warm home, a tool of creation. And you float to the top of the chilly sea.

This world is barren and cold, but you hold the means to change that.

Just who are you?

Roll To Dodge / roll the game
« on: December 02, 2022, 06:31:21 pm »
It's the new minimalist sensation.
Victory shall be achieved by rolling the game itself in the manner one would roll a die.

You're in a white void with some randos. You get the feeling that rolling dice would cause things.

Westrealm, Mewlo badlands.
3PM local time, 1345 Rosetime
2 Months after first contact

Over the baren hills, a shooting star is spotted by a detachment of Starhammer. Unfortunately their mage leader has recently passed away due to natural causes. Nevertheless they decide to investigate the crash site.

Mayday! En route to an infiltration, a Shuttle Rig carrying a Haemic Corp squad encounters a fatal failure and undergoes a controlled crash. While most of the passengers survive, the Tech Gear riding under is crushed, killing the pilot.

That's it, we're nearly ready to roll. Remember that you're not allowed to pick a (Hero) class for this mission, and to state your faction outside of your character sheet so that players of the opposite faction don't mistakenly check it. No peeking!

Forum Games and Roleplaying / calvinball arms race
« on: May 01, 2022, 01:02:29 am »
Metarules:

I'm not the GM, calvinball doesn't need no GM and I don't have time for that anyways.
Either side may add new rules/goals at any time as a design unless the rules say they can't.
Rules stay in effect unless the rules say they don't.
Rules added earlier do not supersede rules added later, unless the rules say they do.
There is probably a red team and a blue team and it would likely be a good idea to say which one you are.
The team which accomplishes the goals of the game wins!
Have fun.

RED
Propose that RED team sets down a little red tank which can perform objectives.

Roll To Dodge / Crisis - very venomous
« on: April 13, 2022, 05:13:20 pm »
A suggestion game centered around a deterministic combat system. In the RTD section, because why not.

The main character is a jungle hermit who hasn't seen or spoken to anybody in the past decade, who may or may not be fated to play a role in the destiny of the planet. She also happens to be a wolf person. The setting is JRPG-ish, though I have trouble ripping anything off without getting distracted and adding weird ideas to the mix.

Inspired by Extinction, less in the sense that I'm taking notes and more in that I'm encouraged by my friend Devastator's success in making a long running game with an interesting story. I'll try my best to do something like that.

Also have some complex rules:

Tired... can't think... can't act...

Suddenly, you feel a pulse of Energy pass through you, then past you through the room. You feel that wave leave and continue its journey past your perception. You suddenly feel Invigorated, your mind cleared.

Without much else to do, you begin analysis of your situation. It would seem that you've existed for a couple hours, less than one Pulse. Though, you're not sure if that's a long span of time or a short one?
You yourself are a sphere, quite a smooth and perfect one glowing with Health and Mind.
You would seem to be hovering over the floor of a stone storeroom. Or perhaps not hovering? It's more like you're affixed here, to the space itself. You're certainly not going to be able to just roll around places.
As for the room itself, it seems to be intended for storage, with large flat areas and shelves on the walls reaching quite high up. However, there doesn't seem to actually be anything stored here right now.

That's about it. You feel as though you could attempt to do something using your Mind. Though you feel as though you're missing Something if you wished to create, and moving yourself seems out of the question.

Roll To Dodge / Foul Ichor
« on: February 13, 2022, 05:16:02 am »
((Welcome, test subject. You have been selected to participate in a limited-time trial of a new game system I've been working on. Participation is mandatory.
The test is about blood-powered mecha, but the full game will be about different things.
This system is deterministic on the time span of one turn. Meaning no rolls to attack or dodge or such.
Exactly how the system works will be explained over the course of the game.
For capacity reasons, only the first five test subjects are needed. Any excess will be fed to the Antjwitr.))

Through a haze of black and cold, you feel tingling returning to your limbs.
Those affixed in place by cold loops of steel, your body a prisoner in a freezing tomb.
Your veins pierced by spikes, you feel your tinged red blood pulse through this great machine which creaks and roars around you. You feel what it feels.
Lonesome. And Heavy. And Sharp.

As you look down on your hand. Massive, bigger than your whole body, shining segmented metal backed by unlimited machine force. You wonder.
You wonder if you're supposed to remember. You wonder if you forgot.

Pick one:

Fled: You recall the empire. A place for humans like you, safe from the alien. A lie. The police came for you, to murder you, your blood too impure, unclean. You fled, just kept going intil you were in the commonwealth. Here you are poor, treated like trash, abused by the bugs. But at least they're not trying to kill you.

Soldier: You were manufactured in a pod, trained to fight. Made into a weapon against your own kind. Strange metal things put inside of you, drinking your foul blood, making you strong. The outermost painted in the commonwealth's colors, to differentiate you from the enemy.

Servant: You were a house-servant to the rich and powerful. An ugly and unappealing alien slave, who would work hard to survive. Once you had shown your determination and loyalty, it was decided to fix you. Make you pretty. Your disturbing primate limbs were pulled off and replaced, your skin covered up by shining chitin, and best of all, your soulless eye balls were replaced by beautiful compound eyes.

Blank: You can't recall anything.

Other: ??

As you unsteadily extend your focus outwards, you see and hear and feel through strange senses. Your body- or perhaps, your exo-body stands in a cold box of metal, a bare and depressing room, though expansive to contain your massive steel frame.
Above you, countless pipes and cables and chutes snake around the ceiling. You see and feel fluids passing through the pipes, and energies coursing through the cables.
Before you is a set of huge sliding doors. The floor and walls are painted in purple and black warning stripes, and odd flickering shapes surround your vision of the door, indicating that it it operational.

And finally, in a pair of alcoves, there are other poor souls such as you. Towering humanoid frames plated in inches of dull metal all around, beyond which you see bafflingly complex internals, monitoring, fastening, maintaining, stretching and contracting and siphoning hot, steaming red blood from place to place, beating in and out from the heart, the tainted core from which corruption flows freely to every part of the machine. And in the middle of it all, a cold metal tomb, and the heat of a human being. Its own foul heart a lesser cousin to the Ichor Core.

You turn inwards towards your own machine. It is the same... and yet, subtly different.

Pick one:

+1 Ichor
+10 Hull
+1 Plate
+1 Timeunits

((Worldbuilding/godding game. Bit more cosmic horror than usual. Game won't last too many turns. Limit action length to a sentence or so: don't think, feel.
First turn ~24 hours from posting.))

The Stars are Right.
But there is nothing for them to Shine upon.

There are infinite stars, infinite worlds.
Often a star will appear, courted by Divinities.
But here, there is no Divinity.
Only Sovereignty.

The Godhead has many Eyes, and one Mouth.
'Let there be...' the Godhead states, gazing at the void. But nothing comes to Mind.

The Mouth states what the Eyes see. But there is only one Mouth.

The spire, suloy, must survive.
Left no choice, the survival of man, one flesh. Fully unified, fully unformed, fully adaptive.

Our world, cold and dead. The visitors, haltar, dealt the last blow. Yet the damage done by man was greater. The damage done by suloy, us.

Our minds, our precious continuity, preserved, now as one in suloy.

We must leave, preserve suloy. There is nothing left for us here.
