I was just thinking I should bump this today. The downside of getting your match done quickly is a long wait for the next one :P

"Greensskinsssss? Doesss Nuffle hate usss, or are we in the wrong league?"

500k of inducements buys Ripper, the orcish star player, a wizard, and drugs for Tuffgang. The orcs lose the toss as the skinks elect to receive... and promptly flinch at the sight of the muscle on the touchline. As the ball goes up, fans storm the pitch, the game delayed as Weyy catches and keeps hold of the ball without shifting, but the amount of muscle on the touchline means the saurus muscle doesn't even try to intervene, and the charge stops with Novv and Garr deep, but little else. In response, Mogram shoves Novv, but fails to make him fall. In turn, the orcs signal frantically, and Novv is stunned from a bolt from the blue.

In turn, Mazz and Garr head on to cover what Novv can't, slipping deep. While elsewhere the orc team is in the stronger position blockwise, the slow speed of the orcs is working against them right now. Garr goes down and out from a tackle by Morru, as Badruk's fist takes down Vorr and leaves him stunned. The drugged gobbo Tuffgang joins Vorr face-down with an awkward trip after slipping past Sorr, who answers by slipping past, heading to join Mazz. It's all for naught as the skink side shows why they really shouldn't be given the ball, a fumbled pass landing in the midst of skink and orc lines.

A quick couple of shoves secures the ball, more or less, but Stonerot proves his intelligence by... standing around stupidly. Badruk fails to sprint anywhere either, ending up face-down by Mejj. A few quick shoves from Takk and Mejj lets Weyy grab the ball, dashing to hand off to Mazz who easily scores and puts the skink side 1-0 up for... possibly the first time in a long while.

The ball goes high as the skinks kick off, the ball bouncing off the helmet of Gugnail, caught napping. This just lets Mogram pick up the ball, securing it fairly close to the line of scrimmage. Takk gets another face full of troll fist, going down hard. Almost immediately, though, the orcs start forming a box, a green wall of muscle (with the possible exception of Tuffgang) impeding skink access to the ball-carrying Mogram. That doesn't stop thick-skulled Mejj from trying, shoving Gugnail out of the way as three other Stormers follow suit.

It doesn't do much, though - Badruk shows just what black orcs are made of, and promptly make shis presence felt. Tyrr gets KO'd with a swift punch, but the reposition leaves Mogram exposed as Takk jumps up and beats him down. Weyy makes another dive for the ball, picking it up easily... but brought down by Tuffgang, following the skink and taking the ball, surging southwards. Rijj and Nirr both end up out in the apothecary's tent, mending wounds and nursing nerves, and Mazz goes down with a concussion that'll leave him woozy for the rest of his career. Rexx, on the other hand, manages to bring down Tuffgang, but can't secure the ball - with no-one around he has to try himself, but muscle gets in the way of fine dexterity. Mejj gets KO'd with a swift enough punch, but the whole effort is rendered moot as Tuffgang just picks up the ball and scores without hassle.

Although Mejj gets up, the skinks are still down to ten men with a half to play, most of the experienced players (and those that can handle a ball) out for the match. Things get even rougher for the skinks, with a bad kick and a quick snap leaving them utterly flat-footed. The line of scrimmage goes about as well as one expects, a lot of saurusses down with several tonnes of green (and in one case, blue) muscle bearing down on them, the ball nicely protected. A fireball from the heavens knocks out Novv, the last real skink able to move the ball. The surviving skinks move to a more defensive setup, although Vorr and Jarr still have a lot of hurt coming their way.

The Stormers can't even return most of those punches against the orcish team, the armour-heavy side taking the impacts better than the skinks certainly are. Tuffgang takes the hand-off and sprints downfirld, although Stonerot shuts down Mejj's movement. Ravv gets KO'ed from a smack by Morru, Tuffgang gets dropped by Irzz, while Weyy recovers after an initial fumble, trying to keep the ball safe. Gramfak tries hard, shoving Weyy, but only manages to do just that - shove. Vorr goes down, though, with a hefty smack that leaves him unconscious, but Jarr gets payback and brings Glulop down, if not out, with an erratic punch. Weyy, however, takes off, but ends up brought down by Tuffgang, who floors himself in the process. Weyy promptly recovers, heading deep, and within range of a touchdown while holding the ball.

Tuffgang doesn't give up - a medal to the gobbo for trying, but this attempt leaves him down and unconscious on the astrogranite where Weyy was merely down, although he fails to pick up in the next chance. And the next - the anticipation must have made his claws sweaty, except for the fact that lizards don't sweat. Morru easily grabs the ball after a dead sprint, but is brought down by Rexx after shoving out of Rikber's block, and this time, Weyy manages to pick up the ball and run it in as the clock counts down for good, giving the skinks their second victory ever, 2-1 against the greenskin side.

(... Pyrrhic. Now two out of three of my faster players have injuries that affect their armour value. I ought to be happy I won, but this was just too frustrating to have four injuries on more or less the same turn for the third game in a row, it feels like.)

And we're onto week 6!

Unfortunately the schedule is created randomly, out of my control, and week 6 is a rematch of week 4. It's worth noting that weeks 10 and 12 also are rematches of this nature.

Matchups for week 6:
warhammer651 - Earth Strikers vs monk12 - Monk's Marauders
ndkid - Kobb's Khorne vs Burnt Pies - Brunch's Big Bads
Jartol - Manner Pylon vs ank - w00t w00t
Kanil - Self Inflicted vs Charmander - Sahagin Stormers

We all needed a break, I take it? Burnt Pies and I are trying to fit in our game this weekend. Six-hour Time Zone Difference + my busy-ness have conspired against us!

I sent Charmander a PM a while ago, waiting for a response.

Jartol says he's in contact with ank, so I imagine their game will be played soon as well.

So, that's the status of all the games. A bit slower week, but not a big deal.

Kobb's Khorne vs. Brunch's Big Bads

BBB gets a point of AGL, and Ripper. Khorne elects to kickoff.

B1: Khorne lines up in a tight FFB. BBB gets a quick snap, which gets the goblin under the kickoff. One troll takes down the minotaur while the other looks around stupidly. The goblin runs the ball left.

K1: The minotaur stays down. A couple of orcs go down as Khorne pulls to its right to get closer to the goblin with the ball.

B2: Lots of Khorne knocked down, and the goblin pushes into the Khone backfield with the ball.

K2: TAB frees Soft-Hands to go blitzing the goblin down. The crowd tosses the ball back behind the BBB line. A beastman gets knocked over trying to dodge away from the troll.

B3: The thrower runs back and picks up the ball. Five players get knocked down. The super blitzer falls over trying to get out of the minotaur's tentacles.

K3: Speedy gets beside the thrower. Lots of people standing up. A couple of orcs get knocked down.

B4: The passer gets freed up to run forward with the ball. Only one Khorne player is knocked down.

K4: The minotaur frees TAB to knock over the ball carrier and pick up the ball himself.

B5: A blitzer gets some help in stunning TAB, then picking up the ball himself.

K5: The minotaur knocks out an orc. Speedy blitzes down the ball carrier.  A rookie beastman runs around the end to nab the ball. A warrior knocks himself over trying to block a black orc.

B6: The blitzer gets around the end to knock over the ball carrier, but falls over trying to dodge toward the ball.

K6: Speedy tries to blitz TAB free to pick up the ball, but his pro skills aren't up to the task.

B7: At the end, seven Khorne players were down, and the goblin has the ball.

K7: The rearguard knocks over a troll. TAB falls over trying to dodge.

B8: Blocks to no effect.

K8: Blocks to no effect.

Halftime Score: Kobb's Khorne 0 - 0 Brunch's Big Bads

K9: TAB goes back to receive the kickoff. Brunches' fans give them an extra reroll. TAB picks up the ball and runs forward with it. A troll, a black orc and a blitzer go down; a lineman is knocked out. Speedy knocks himself over knocking over the thrower.

B9: Ripper knocks over a beastman. The goblin runs forward. A blitzer tries to run through a hole in the center to get to TAB, but the minotaur's tentacles stop him.

K10: TAB runs to his right, and tosses the ball to Soft-Hands, who runs it downfield, with one friend. The minotaur knocks himself over trying to block a black orc.

B10: Three orcs pull back and knock Soft-Hands down. The crowd throws the ball into the middle of the BBB backfield. The thrower muffs picking it up.

K11: Speedy tries to pick up the ball, but fails.

B11: A black orc blitzes down Speedy. The thrower picks up the ball.

K12: The minotaur manages to knock himself over along with the orc he was blocking with three dice.

B12: Eight Khorne players down. Thrower runs downfield and hands the ball to the goblin at midfield.

K13: A warrior knocks out the goblin. Speedy gets knocked out trying to dodge.

B13: The thrower picks up the ball and runs forward.

K14: The thrower gets pushed back, and two other Khorne players join the blitzing beastman in surrounding him.

B14: Not much.

K15: Two beastman get beside the ball; neither can pick it up.

B15: The amped up blitzer manages to pick up the ball.

K16: Three beastman bring the blitzer down. TAB finds a hole to run back to try to pick up the ball, but fails.

B16: Some blocks.

Final Score: Kobb's Khorne 0 - 0 Brunch's Big Bads

Thoughts: Ripper was decisive here. There just was no way to reach parity on the line with two S6 players on it. However, with NATAB gone, I only had TAB and Soft-Hands for a finesse game, which wasn't enough, either. As a result, this became a pretty standard slugfest, with slow offensives pushing into enemy territory only to be beaten back. Both of us had scoring opportunities that couldn't quite be capitalized on. It's possible I should have played more of a counter-punching game, putting a token effort on the front line and going for defense in depth, but there was so much parity, I'm not sure a spread field would actually be to my advantage.

Monk's Marauders vs Earth Strikers

I go into the match with a 10 TV advantage, which results in neither team bringing any inducements into the match. The Marauders win the toss and elect to receive.

The Marauders line up in a rather unexciting default formation, while the Earth Strikers stack the line of scrimmage, ready to overrun the human line. Unfortunately, as the ball is kicked angry fans storm the field, leaving five dwarves stunned on the LoS. The Marauders take advantage of the opportunity to move a catcher deep into Earth Striker territory, a Blitzer into a supporting position and another lineman to help out on the LoS. Helmut the Thrower can't handle the pickup, however, resulting in a Turnover.

The dwarves bounce back by knocking out the Blitzer, knocking down a lineman and generally shoving around the humans. The Blitzer Knight Advar Badly Hurts one of the Troll Slayers, however, reasserting Human control of the middle of the field as Helmut gets his act together and starts heading upfield. While dwarven blockers impose their will on either wing, Dagg Silent the Ogre trips up a runner and leads a Human push to sieze midfield, where they are joined by Helmut.

The dwarves continue pressing in from either side, but when the remaining Troll Slayer takes a gamble and tries to dodge past Manfred the Bawler to blitz the ballcarrier, the aforementioned lineman sends him down hard. Dagg Silent wordlessly knocks out yet another dwarf, opening up a gap for Helmut to run through and complete a quick pass to the Catcher, who then strikes in for the score.

Turn 4: Marauders 1 - 0 Earth Strikers

The humans line up in a blitzing formation with a Guard on the LoS and their newly minted Kicker Manfred the Friendly in the backfield, while the dwarves spread out to cover as much of the field as possible in anticipation of the accurate kick. As the ball flies into the air, the Marauders Blitz the opposition, knocking through the linemen and sending the blitzers and Helmut into Earth Striker territory where the ball will land near the end zone.

The dwarves quickly assert their dominance of the LoS while also picking up the ball and forming a cage against the threatening blitzers, but when the Troll Slayer attempts to dodge away from Dagg Silent to blitz one of the more dangerous humans the Ogre gives him a swift kick in the rear. Being something of a Bone-Head, his surprise at the dwarf's audacity keeps him from assisting the humans in reclaiming midfield. The humans are unable to do much more than set up to contain the dwarven cage.

The dwarves rush to the right, where Bertolf Lutolf stands alone against their charge- unfortunately for the dwarves, they are unable to beat him down. As other Marauders run over to assist, Bertolf sends the ballcarrier into the dirt, leaving the ball right next to the sideline surrounded by humans. The Troll Slayer lives up to his reputation, knocking Dagg Silent on his ass, but as a Dwarven Blitzer attempts to get Bertolf away from the ball he sees double skulls and is knocked to the dirt.

A human blitzer attempts to get the dwarves away from the ball, and succeeds only in knocking the ball off the pitch. By a stroke of luck, the throw-in bounces into the end-zone, and a bit of blocking later gives Helmut Sure Hands the path he needs to go pick it up. With only a turn left in the half, neither side is terribly aggressive on the ensuing kickoff, taking only the opportunities presented.

Halftime: Monk's Marauders 2 - 0 Earth Strikers

Manfred kicks the ball high near the Earth Striker LoS and sideline, and a runner gets under it and makes the catch. The very first action results in double skulls for an ES lineman, however, and they suffer a turnover. Bertolf knocks the ballcarrier down, but this time the throw-in is toward the center of the field, surrounded by dwarves. After the humans surge upfield, the dwarves retaliate by Badly Hurting Bertolf and forming a cage around the new ballcarrier.

The humans continue their push downfield, knocking over several dwarves and putting pressure on the dwarven cage, but the dwarves respond by shoving Manfred the Bawler (the Lineman who returned an interception for a score in the first meeting of the teams) into the stand, Badly Hurting him. A pair of criticals and a reroll is good enough to get the ballcarrier out of the cage and complete a pass downfield, where another runner makes a push into Marauder territory with a small escort.

A few humans get to the runner, however, and a blitzer gets the ball loose. When Knight Adavar gets hold of the ball, warhammer runs up the white flag, admitting defeat. Knight runs the ball in for the capstone score, and both parties politely run out the few remaining turns on the clock.

Final Score: Monk's Marauders 3 - 0 Earth Strikers

Dagg Silent's performance earned him MVP, so he'll get a level under his belt, as well as the Catcher and Thrower. I think Knight Adavar got enough SPP for a level as well, between the TD and the casualty. All in all, it went similarly to the previous match, except this time I had an Ogre in the trenches and a Thrower and Catcher on offense.

Jartol got help from Morg-N-Thorg and used him to good effect.
paired with the rat ogre he had the strength advantage.

The elves had a bunch of injuries from last game, and could only field 10 real players.
The elves had installed a magnet in the ball before the game.
The common tactic was to get the ball, and pull way back, while positioning other players for a passing chain.
Jartol got really unlucky when he had to make a GFI to score, but knocked himself unconscious.
This game was a ruthless running match, with the elves constantly running away, often with the ball.
The rat ogre died, but he got better.

game ended 4-2 to the elves

Thx for the game, I'll admit I pretty much had all the luck.

"... Vampiresss? Again? Who desssigned this Nuffle-cursssed ssschedule?"

This time around, there is only 200k for the vamps to spend. This is, mostly, to losing high-value Mazz from a concussion last game, leaving Novv and the rather brittle Tyrr the Slipstreamed to be the scoring focus of the game. Nonetheless, that cash buys two barrels of Bloodweiser and costs the skinks a reroll, something they were never too highly gifted with at the best of times.

The vampires lose the toss, and the skinks elect to receive. Bright sunshine streams across the pitch, which, other than making life difficult for the vampires in general, also... hampers the rather limited passing play of both sides. Once more, the fans storm the pitch as the ball is kicked, landing rather short and dead centre in the skink's half of the field. Ravv collects, but bides his time, waiting for the vampiric play before he decides to act.

Rather quickly the skinks find themselves down a lizard as Ku Sung-Hoon shoves Vorr off-field. Mejj responds by knocking Kim the thrall out, bot resuscitates him with a body check. Rexx corrects that by similarly knocking out Park the thrall, but doesn't follow up. Ravv tries to move the ball forward, but utterly fails to dump off to the inattentive Sorr, and the ball goes dead, if guarded by litke, blue bodies. Shin Sang-Moon shoves Sorr out of the way but fails to make good, and Park Jung-Suk keeps the ball bouncing with a tackle to Irzz that shoves him back. Ku, on the other hand, collects rather adeptly, the ball safe in the vampire's hands. In response, Jarr shoves Park Ji-Soo away, but ends up getting a classy-gloved fist to the face and he goes down.

The vampires consolidate, knocking Nirr out for good as Ku pushes forward, looking for an early score. Jarr scrambles up and sprints to him, but can only shove him, but Novv, Ravv and Sorr back him up... for all the good that it does. Ku tackles Novv and slips away adeptly to give the vampires a relatively early lead, and leave the skinks floundering.

At the kick off, the Stormer's fans kick up a cheer that leaves the side's confidence bolstered... which is quickly used up as Vorr starts a tackle that looks unsteady, but ends up stunning a luckless thrall. Tyrr grabs the ball and hands off to the sure-clawed Novv who bolts off downfield, the remainder of the skinks proving their slippery nature by pounding past the lines and acting defensive.

The vampires have other plans, though. Two of the bloodsuckers remove their sunglasses and send Garr and Sorr into a lull that leaves Shin Sang-Moon to shove Nirr back, but Novv slips away to pass the ball to Ravv, who has a direct line to score. And, without fanfare or much elsewhere, takes the opportunity thrust into his awaiting scores and brings the score line up to 1-1 with a fraction of the half to go.

With time ticking away, the vampires need a miracle to score in the remaining minutes of the half, pinning their hopes on the rather fast Shin Sang-Moon, but the skinks blitz off as the ball sails skyward. It doesn't accomplish much other than pressure Shin somewhat, as Novv sprints downfield in pursuit of the ball. it was a long-shot, but he gets brought down by Lee the thrall. Elsewhere, Park drops Jarr, and Rexx is shoved out of the way, but Ku fumbles the ball and blows the vampire's chances. Mejj stomps on Lee Young-Han, putting the thrall out of the match and cementing the saurus; position as a star player, while Nirr brings down Park under the weight of four small bodies. The vampire side responds in kind, pummelling the standing skinks, Shin Sang-Moon feeling peckish a hair early and knocking Kim Dong-Kun out from the shock of being feasted on. Ku grabs the ball and gives a quick pass to the now-sated Shin as the half ends, 1-1.

With time available, Self Inflicted set up in a more even format, as the blinding sun disappears behind the scant clouds, the day becoming pleasant as the ball sails off-field with a wayward kick. Sorr and Irzz learn what being on the line of scrimmage feels like, receiving a stun and a knockout blow respectively, as Ku receives the touched-back ball. Park Ji-Soo also manages to lay down some hurt, stunning Novv with a tackle from the blue. Vorr promptly returns the favour to the thrall as Kim similarly gets knocked out.

Nirr joins the ranks of those unconscious and off-pitch as the vampires resume their drive... or at least, presumably. Ku does exactly nothing with the ball, waiting for an opening brought on by the tackles and beatings of the skink side. Vorr manages to lay hurt on a vampire, snapping Shin Sang-Moon's leg, but the undead player shrugs off the injury without aid of an apothecary, walking off, sore but... still able to walk. Elsewhere, the nightwalkers start to form a rudimentary box of sorts, but Rexx rips the ball from Ku Sung-Hoon's hands and lets it bounce off-field, where the crowd tosses it on a little further back than it started. Sorr takes the opportunity to break away and grab the ball, heading and aiming to score while the remaining skinks cover his escape. Vorr goes down swinging, but crushes the skull of the thrall Park Ji-Soo in the process.

Sorr goes down hard, his neck snapping in the process, but the apothecary quickly patches him up, leaving him able to fight another day as the vampires consolidate, Ku Sung-Hoon receiving the ball. Mejj smashes the hand of a second thrall, but Garr can do little to secure the ball except try and trip the ball-carrying vamp. Not that it works - Ku slips past, hurling the ball high over the claws of Takk and Jarr, the ball suddenly rather in a dangerous position for the skinks. Vorr fails to do much more than slow the agile ball-carrier down, Lee Yoon-Yeol being nimble enough and sturdy enough to weather whatever the lizards throw at him, but odds are that it won't be close to enough. Sure enough Lee Yoon-Yeol slips past, electing to stall the touchdown by passing to a defended Park Jung-Suk.

Immediately every skink and saurus converges on the ball-carrying pack, but it looks like there's little the blueskins can do against the bluebloods, and Park scores handily, 2-1 up and leaving the skinks in a pinch, but not unable to equalise.

As the match ticks towards its conclusion, the kick-off leaves the skinks floundering and flat-footed, the vampires taking advantage and locking down the opportunity for a two-turn touchdown. Or at least, tries. Tyrr recovers and tosses the ball to the awaiting Novv, as Mejj gets a third casualty for the match, badly hurting a thrall with the bad luck to be standing both in the way, and then underneath, the claws of the saurus. Ku once more gets too hungry too early, hypnotising Takk and snacking on Kim, as Garr's manic charge leaves him able to tackle Park and leave the skinks to equalise, 2-2, as Novv runs the ball in handily.

The MVPs of the match were Ku Sung-Hoon, for his passes and the touchdown, while Novv gets the reward for the similar reasons.

(... Didn't expect to draw. Mejj finally hit Star, getting a fine frill of feathers with a surprising three casualties, while Vorr brings his Kill count to 2. I really got lucky with Going For It rolls, too, the fact that Garr made his at the end being pretty much the sole reason we didn't lose at the end.)

I made a few mistakes here and there, and largely got outplayed by Charmander -- was fortunate to scrape a draw, given some of my decisions.

I should reconsider my apothecary usage, though. Lost two skilled thralls in the last two games, which is quite unfortunate.

Koosh again failed blood lust (twice!) on the critical last play of the game, in an attempt to stop Charmander from scoring. Oddly enough they gave him MVP for that.

Thanks for the game and zizi yO.

... I admit, using mine on level 1 skink with a broken neck was probably less-than-smart. I guess I was hoping for him to achieve that elusive SPP to give him a rank.

TV is up to 1940 or so, though, with Mejj's promotion, and the injured skinks back in play. That's going to hurt...
