Last season we used Cyanide's system, which is somewhere between bad and completely random and arbitrary. I did not realize this until late in the season, where it felt inappropriate to change the rules. As such, I decided to just apply new rules to this season, which really should have been posted sooner. I apologize.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that intelligible tiebreaking procedures are a good thing :P  As far as posting them sooner, I don't think it matters since tiebreaking really only comes up in the last couple games of the season- this early, "win all my games and root for the underdogs" works just fine when paying attention to the calender.

...For the record, mine and Jartol's game should be scheduled for a week today because I forgot about two prior engagements that would make things stupendously difficult to play in the times we otherwise could have.

Three things.

One: ndkid vs smakemupagus was validated.

Two: ExKirby and I played our game.

Three: I dug up the results for season 3 and have posted them. Hopefully tomorrow I'll do the same for season 2. I don't know if anyone cares, but I think it's kinda neat to have record of every game played, so I'll keep doing it even if you don't!

Kobb's Khorne (ndkid) vs Norsca Frostskalds (smakemupagus)

The Frostskalds' surehanded thrower is out for a game, and the match starts in the rain.  Maybe not a promising omen.  On the plus side, we could afford to replace our dead Berserker and still since we still have low TV, enough inducements for some pretty powerful combinations, Morg n Thorg and two merc lineman to at least hold off the Chaos Warrior line, wizard and an extra apothecary.

Frostskalds receive in the first half and have a bit of luck, both in terms of an unskilled lineman grabbing the kickoff successfully, and the Chaos blockers rolling low damage on armor rolls, so the Norse line stays intact.  The Skalds use the wizard's fireball early in the match to try to break up the Chaos line, take advantage of a couple Wild animal procs on the minotaur and timely Dauntless blocks from our runner, and create a nice running lane.  The ballcarrier rolls to Dodge and scores late in the half.

Second half, Kobb's Khorne receives and is able to dictate the play.  The skills of the Chaos veterans comes into play; the Warriors form up a pretty impenetrable box with layers of Guard, while the beastmen are able to deploy to play to their strengths.  A runner breaks free with a nice blitz & goes for the end line, setting up a nice quick score on a pass completion from near midfield over the top of the Norse defense.

The third possession was hard fought and with a bit of different luck could have got either way.  The beastmen broke through the Frostskalds line and with some Horns and +1STR, knocked the ball free.  In close quarters the Norse linemen cleaned it up with a couple 1 die blocks, with block skill and some team rerolls to tip the scales.  Some big hits from both sides were taking their toll on the players (I think that we both escaped without permanent injury, thanks to some lifesaving work by the apocs).  In general the Chaos got the upper hand although Morg n Thorg really showed his stuff controlling midfield with just a bit of support, and the Chaos really had a bad run of double skulls on the dice.  The Norse tried for a sprint to the sideline late in the half, but it was well contested by the defense, who forced the potential scoring attempt to be a quite low-odds play, with not-skilled players and no rerolls it fell short.   (I believe it would have required 2 successful two-dice blocks, a run and short pass, and 2 GFI by an ulfverener)

Final:
Kobb's Khorne (1-1) Norsca Frostskalds

My game with hermes probably won't be until the 10th or so either. I've got college finals through thursday this week, which makes life a little busy for me right now. Combined with the fact that we have a 15 hour time difference between the two of us it's a little difficult to get a game time set up. Once finals are over I should be free to play the game whenever though, so we should be done during the upcoming weekend at the latest.

Kobb's Khorne vs. Norsca Frostskalds

The Norse have over 800k in inducements, which get them two star players, a merc, a wizard, a wandering apoc, and an extra reroll. They elect for Khorne to kickoff. A riot burns the first turn. There's also pouring rain.

N2: Four norsemen in the rear surround the ball, and one picks it up. A beastman on the line is stunned.

K2: The norse on the line and Morg n' Thorg, all go down. Speedy gets to the four norse in the rear, and a warrior falls over trying to do so.

N3: Despite several blocks, Speedy refuses to go down. A werewolf knocks himself over stunning a beastman.

K3: A fireball knocks over the minotaur and a warrior. They stand up. A couple of norse are knocked over. Despite a reroll, Fritz injures himself going for it.

N4: Speedy gets injured on a block.

K4: My roommate needed some help, so I really wasn't paying much attention between my second injury and when the Norse scored their touchdown. Really, after I got two injuries in the first two turns without doing a lick of damage in return, I figured that Nuffle was continuing my punishment, so reading over my roommate's homework was the preferable choice. :-)

N8: Score run in.

K8: A werewolf knocked out.

Halftime Score: Norsca Frostskalds 1 - 0 Kobb's Khorne

K9: 10 men on the field for Khorne. Lots of blocks, New TAB runs forward with the ball, Catcher runs downfield.

N9: Some blocks.

K10: New TAB breaks free, and tosses the ball to Catcher in the end zone.

N10: Khorne lines up in FFB. New TAB killed, but apoc brings him back.

K11: Warrior kills a werewolf, but the apoc steps in. LaS blitzes the ball carrier, but only manages a push, even after the reroll. Catcher goes to assist, while most of the team tries to gum up the other possible routes for the ball carrier to run through.

N11: Some blocks, but the ball carrier only moves slightly before time expires.

K12: The ball carrier is knocked over, leaving the ball with three Norse and three Beastmen surrounding it. A player is knocked out.

N12: There are now 9 Norse and 9 Khorne on the field. Then a rookie beastman is knocked out.

K13: The minotaur falls over trying to block a lineman.

N13: Some blocks, ball gets picked up.

K14: LaS falls over 2-die blitzing the ball carrier.

N14: The ball carrier moves forward.

K15: Lots of standing up. The minotaur breaks his ankle blocking Morg n' Thorg.

N15: Another injury as Morg n' Thorg takes out a warrior.

K16: Getting around the ball carrier to prevent a score.

N16: No Score.

Final Score: Norsca Frostskalds 1 - 1 Kobb's Khorne

Thoughts: Six of my 8 rerolls went to double-skull blocks. A couple of the rerolls still saw me falling down. I got one cas, the norse got four.

Monk's Marauders 3 - 0 Brunch's Big Bads

Orcs bought a wizard, cheering fans, and an AG potion for the Troll with their inducements, and the Humans won the coin toss. The initial push downfield got Eomund Tonkai the AG5 Thrower past the Orc line with a lineman and a catcher covering the most likely blitzing lanes, but a timely fireball knocked all three down, knocked the catcher out, and resulted in the ball bouncing three squares back into a cluster of Orcs. Tuffgang the Goblin managed to recover, and the Big Bads turtled up, not ready to risk a counterdrive of their own against the fast, dodgy humans. The fast, dodgy humans managed to do some bashing as well, opening up a blitz on Tuffgang. He went down hard, and a bit of shoving saw the ball bounce near the prone Eomund Tonkai, who promptly stood up, made two dodges into open space, picked up the ball in a tacklezone (and made a GFI,) made another dodge into another tacklezone making another GFI, and then threw a perfect pass to a lonely Catcher on the far side of the field, who scampered in for the score.

Things went downhill fast for Pies after that, as the start of the Orc offensive saw a sure-handed Orc Thrower fail to pick up the ball two turns in a row. Two turns was about how much time the humans needed to punch a hole in the Orc line and run downfield to the ball while marking up pursuit, leading to an easy TD and a 2-0 advantage.

The Orc's second drive also started with a sure-handed pickup fail (that's six fails in a row for the folks keeping score at home) but things finally balanced slightly when an overeager Human lineman rerolled a GFI into another 1 when trying to get next to the ball, and this time the Orc Thrower scooped it up and tossed it to Tuffgang, who got into a cage of big bad orcs near the LoS. With humans pressing in from every side and time running out, a Throw Teammate attempt saw Tuffgang sail downfield... facefirst into the turf. An easy 2d push later, and the Humans had an avenue to scoop up the ball and pitch it to an AG4 Blitzer, who then ran in the TD.

If things had gone a little differently in the first half, the score could easily have been 1-1, or 0-1 in the Orc favor, and obviously the second half was just comically lopsided as far as the dice were concerned. Still, Humans improve their winstreak to 3 games, and I won't complain about that!

I was going to ask about the AG potion on the Troll, but totally forgot about throw teammate. Surprising that (at least according to your play-by-play) there was only one wizard hit - usually with cheering fans, you can get two or even three strikes (it's actually one of the inducements I think is unbalanced - IMO it's too effective for its price.)

Cheering fans are a bit silly, but you can counter them with your own inducements. I'd turn them off, if I could, but we'd lose all the other extended inducements, which I personally enjoy. Fortunately, you can buy an inducement to counter them. Most of our teams have enough treasury that they could get some in a big game.

As always, any rule can be changed if enough people want it changed.

The wizard didn't recharge until just after the third TD, on turn 16. First use was turn... three? Four? The first use was quite effective at stopping my initial plan, and if I hadn't gotten that run of good dice it could well have stopped my first TD, but the second use was a decided non-factor.

How exactly do cheering fans work, anyway? I didn't notice much of an increase above and beyond what I expect from a wizard by itself.

Stock wizards don't recharge. Cheering fans let them recharge. Multiple shots from a wizard for 170-210 is quite an effective way to spend inducements.

Wait, really? I could have sworn I've had a wizard recharge without cheering fans before. I thought that was just how Cyanide did it for some silly reason.

Okay, let me rephrase that. Stock wizards aren't supposed to recharge. :P

Thinking about it, I think I've seen it before too. I don't see it happen very often, though.

Yeah, the memory I have of it involved wizard use on the first turn or two, with a recharge at the very end of the match. I just poked around a bit, and didn't turn up any bug reports about it (though I did find an amusing number of "the dice are rigged" posts,) so maybe I'm just misremembering. I'd fire up a single-player game to test, but bleh.
