Im not saying by any means that i trust what universe sandbox is putting out as accurate. I just felt like sharing what I saw.

Does anyone know when people switched to using the lowercase m for million (10^6) instead of thousandth (10^-3)?

Every time I read it my brain hangs, even though it now seems ubiquitous.

Is this only in the US? Does metric media suffer from this?

I don’t remember a time that it wasn’t a lower-case m.

Doesn’t the thousandth abbreviation also have another letter to denote what it’s a thousandth of? Like mm for millimeters, mg for milligrams, that sort of nonsense.

Lower case m for mega is an error. Don't let people get away with it. (oh, you want 32 millibytes of RAM, do you now?)

Uh, some point before I was born? I don't think there's been a point in the last 30+ years I have meaningful memory that lowcase m on its own has been used for anything but million. I don't think I've ever seen it used for mili-stuff (which, yeah, as hec noted I've always seen used in conjunction with something else).

Any time I see someone talking about money, say $41m, they mean 41 million dollars, not 41 thousandths of a dollar. Sometimes I see people use a capitol M, but it seems like most people aren't picky. So in the context of money I always assume it means millions.

I always see people use M for million in both upper and lower case and for thousands they use a K which can also be upper or lower case.

Saw an idea that I'm interested in copying, is there anywhere to buy cheap floppy disks en masse, or fake ones? They don't actually need to be functional, all I need is something that looks like actual floppies.

Any cent spent is litterally too much since it's actual trash... Every while or so we would have people throwing away floppies and they had no special place, they went with the bulk of garbage... Probably easiest to ask  family or local fb who wants to get rid of some. Or go to the recycling place and ask if they could keep some for you if some get thrown out and leave yournumber.

Yeah... you can buy them, but cheap isn't how I'd describe it, especially en masse. Add pawn shops and stuff to the list to call up, probably. There's businesses out there that'd love to make a few bucks off selling a pile of floppy discs from someone's estate, but they're not likely to go through the effort of advertising it at the cheap.

E: Like, for a quick bit of checking your best bet online is, like... ebay. And you're looking at ~20 USD (plus whatever shipping is) for a 50 pack at the absolute best.
