X-Box 360 Must Have Games
« on: October 29, 2012, 02:52:57 pm »

Hi everyone,

I'm mostly a PC gamer myself, but my kids just saved up and bought an X-Box 360.

Are there any games that I should definitely check out?

Are there any games that an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old would absolutely love? The only thing that excludes games is sex.

**

A few of the highly recommended games:

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for $1.99.

Batman Arkham Asylum for $8.99.

Bioshock 2 for $3.99.

Borderlands Game of the Year Edition for $17.

Borderlands 2 for $38.

Burnout Revenge for $8.88.

Dark Souls for $10.99.

Dead Space for $9.11

Dead Space 2 for $6.75.

Dirt for $4.40.

Dishonored for $39.

Dragon's Dogma for $30.09.

Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition for $9.99.

Forza Motorsport 3 for $9.08.

Halo 3 for $9.

Kameo Elements of Power for $.01.

Just Cause for $6.63.

Just Cause 2 for $17.43.

Any of the Lego X-Box games.

Lego Batman for $3.26.

Lost Odyssey for $9.50.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance for $1.96.

Oblvion Game of the Year Edition for $7.28.

Rayman Origins for $10

Skate for $.99.

Tales of Vesperia for $18.99.

Trials HD. In 3-pack with Limbo and Splosion Man. For $3.99.

Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise for $24.91.

Way of the Samurai 3 for $11.

Feel free to recommend a great game that is missing. Prices are listed on 11/6.

Suggest editing the tread title to include a question mark.  I expected a list here.

Otherwise Chrome Hounds.  Never played it, but I've seen the videos.  You want your kids smart and thinking creatively, get them a game where you build fully customized mechs.  Not just deciding what guns to add, but building the structure by hand from chassis up.

I'll second Chrome Hounds. I had some issues with it, but not related to that, and you can get it for fairly low prices. Mirror's Edge might be a good choice as well, depending on their personalities. The awesomeness of the freerunning aside, you've got pattern recognition, rapid decisionmaking, and the game tends to be more enjoyable when you avoid attacking everything hostile to you.

A game I really liked playing, and that kids could definitely played:  Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts

I miss Chromehounds! The online play was so fantastic! And some of the mechs...oh man. People got creative. There were a few builds you'd see a lot, but every now and then there would be this glorious behemoth (or oddly modified Twiggy, a very thin mech build) laying waste to everything, and you'd fire at it in futility as you tried to discover it's weak points. Sadly they shut down the multiplayer facet a few years back, and the single player campaign is lacking in my opinion. Still, it's only worth a few bucks nowadays, and definitely worth playing at least to get a feel for how sweet it was.

What games are you into? Any idea what your kids like? I might be able to help a bit with some specifics.

Hmm, great games that are kid-appropriate, eh?

I'd say look into:

NBA 2k series
NHL series
NCAA Football/Madden series
GRID
DIRT
Project Gotham Racing series
Kameo Elements of Power
Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3, CD, and Adventure 1 and 2 (downloadable from Xbox Live Arcade)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance

Just incase you missed it do not get Chromehounds. Game was badass, but it's multiplayer is dead and its singleplayer is poop.

For kids those ages I'd suggest:

-Any of the Lego games. The recent Lego Batman (2?) was amazing, huge fun coop, and great for kids.
-Viva Pinyata. Both these games are amazing, and I imagine kids will love them. Basically you raise colourfull pinyata animals to sell to parties.
-Banjo and Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts: Build contraptions to get around open area levels. Build a car that transforms into a plane with an ejector seat attached to a balloon.

Portals.  Despite the creepy on GLaDOS, this is a game where your kids will grow up one day and say, "When I was a kid we had good games, but you never let me play interesting games.  You put me on Fifa and didn't let me play Portals 2.  Now sign the will daddy and let the nice men take you to The Home."

A faster paced, but less creative version of chrome hounds: Armored Core V. One of my favorite mech games. Also, ill second Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, one of my favorite games.

Dishonored is good, if you want the children fearing government for the rest of their lives.
And if they dont rage too much, Dark Souls is one of my all time favorite games.

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far.

The games they play the most on the PC are Skyrim, Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, Terraria, and just the Lego Designer program.

Due to the cheap prices, I have ordered Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Kameo Elements of Power.

We have a lot of the Lego games on the PS2. Keep the recommendations coming.

Hmm... that's a tough one since I enjoy them all, but I'll say my favorite of the three is DIRT simply because it's off-road racing which means the tracks have a bit more variation.
