OOC thread

Tourney Information Document

Document containing Characters and Grandmasters

Current task: Write up the story of how your team assembled, while I create the arena overviews in Blender 3d.

Important Information for this task: In-Universe, the Grandmasters wear thick robes and have their voices distorted by magic to disguise their identities.  They are only revealed in the Grandmaster match, and if the opponent loses, their memories of who the Grandmasters are is removed.  If the opponent wins, the former Grandmasters leave through a portal that opens in the chamber, and the new Grandmasters exit to the tournament hall.

Vahn awoke head pounding. Last thing he remembered was relaxing in Rim Elm not long after everything settled down. He sighed wondering where he was. As he sat up and look around he saw two blond haired men in the room with him still asleep. He shook them awake both of them stared at him for a moment before going suddenly alert. "Okay where are we and who are you?" asked the younger looking of the two. Vahn just shrugged "Honestly I can't tell. I'm as confused as you are. Now before we try and kill each other maybe we should tell each other who we are. Personally I'm Vahn a hunter from Rim Elm and this here is Meta my Ra-Seru and companion when I saving the world from the mist." The two nodded, the younger looking of the two spoke up "I'm Ramza Beoulve a ex-noble now heretic of a corrupt church from Ivalice. I remember beating the Zodiac Demons leader and then wandering off with my sister Alma but after that not much before now." The third man nodded. "I'm Dart Feld from Seles, originally Neet before it was destroyed by the Black Monster. I discovered I was a Dragoon not long after I came home from a journey of revenge. I ended up involved in a thousand year old conflict both because I am a Dragoon and because my... friend Shana was involved in the villains plans and I had to protect her." Vahn nodded Well honestly you all seem trustworthy enough and seem to aspire to working towards good like I do so of all the people I could have met I admit  I'm happy it's people like you" The door slid open and they were beckoned through by a dark figure. They were lead to a room barren of all minus a desk and a chair facing away from them. A man spoke from the chair. "Hello men I have a proposition for you. Well more of a demand but that right now." he laughed "Is beside the point. I want you to participate in a tournament and if you win I will return you home with more power than before." Ramza scoffed. "Like I haven't heard that kind of promise before! Why should we believe a "shadowy" man like you?" The man laughed again "Because if you don't I will raze everywhere you value and slowly kill all those you hold dear." Dart snarled "Well I guess you aren't giving us much of a choice here. I guess we will do it then." The man laughed "Good good I'm happy you saw reason. Now get out until I need you. As you leave you will be met by a young man called Zacen follow his command, I imagine he will come up with quite the interesting team name for you." As the three heroes left the man sighed "I hate dealing with heroes like that who force me to act so vulgar to convince them into anything."

Luigi walked into Tails' workshop.
"Tails I need-a a favor from you."
Tails looks up from the project table with what looks like a man wearing a balaclava. You know if they were made of steel plates and ran on cash.
"Sure Luigi, what is it?"
Luigi hands a letter to Tails. Tails reads the letter out loud because the audience can't read it.
"Dear Luigi,
We have taken your brother Mario. If you do not participate in the Tournament of video games his life is forfeit. You may bring two others to be on your team.
P.S. Could you bring one of Peach's cake, they are really good."

Tails looks up at Luigi.
"Well, I guess I could help, perfect time to test this guy."
Tails pushes a button and the robot sits up.
"Thanks, Tails your a real pal! Now then, let's-a go!"
With that Luigi runs out and falls down a portal that wasn't there before. Tails and Robo-spy just shrug and jump down.

Link and Joanna sat at a table talking about their exploits in their worlds as the weird man Meepo and his 4 "twins" Dug around outside looking for crystals to sell. Just as they were all about to go back to their worlds, a massive vortex appeared in the sky. Our group immediately drew their weapons and prepared for an attack when a booming voice sounded from above, "You have been summoned! Prepare for the battle of the ages!" The vortex then fell down upon them, with Meepo yelling something about an 'Enigma', with Link and Joanna wondering whats going on. They appeared *insert name thing* where other groups waited before a resounding voice began to speak to all.

Video games have bugs. It's inherent to the medium, as words are to literature, or stages to theater. Some games have minor bugs that no one notices, or amusing and out-of-the way bugs that make the game better. Then there are games so bugged that you can hardly fail to notice it...and a few copies of games, not whole games, that cause the game itself to break into the Intergame.

The Intergame outbreaks are often in clusters for unknown reasons. An unusually bugged copy of
Jurassic Park: Trespasser opened up a floodgate of minor breakages. A player of Dungeon Defenders saw his avatar vanish, leaving the towers behind, while a Team Ico cursed the Playstation system for crashing. These three, and several more besides, tumbled into the Game Between Games.

This dimension is not a friendly one. It tears at the code, fills itself with every kind of monster, and leaves few health pickups you can use. These three unlikely companions banded together against the hostile area and bonded. Eventually, they reached more stable territory--if you can call it that--and made their way through the multiverse selling their skills for health and such.

Meanwhile...

Udyr walked down a metallic corridor, looking about with his typical vaguely angry expression.
"So then, what will this tournament require us to do?"
"Did I not clarify? You will need to fight. In teams of three."
"If so, then who are our teammates?"
"You'll see."

The shaman was then met by two masked soldiers, who escorted him to a dark room, despite his protests.
"Hm. You'd better have a better way of treating your prizefighters, whoever you are. Even the Institute of War doesn't drag its own champions around with soldiers."
"I don't require the opinion of a wild man who lives in a forest to run an advanced military base."
Udyr growled, but continued. He noticed a small black box in the corner- the voice was coming from there, there had probably been one following him and one in his room.
"So, why are we in here?"
"I'd like you to meet your team, Spirit Walker. Firstly, do you know much of Necromancers?"
"Don't tell us- you dragged Karthus here. Anything but that delusional psychopathic deathloving-"
Udyr was about to let loose with more insults against the Deathsinger - Karthus had killed him in the Fields of Justice many times with his goddamned Requiem - before the voice interrupted him.
"No, shaman. I have no taste for a skeletal megalomaniac who has a death fetish. I had another Necromancer in mind."
"So this is the Spirit Walker. I'd expected....someone less scruffy."

A light turned on, and under it, a white haired man, with a ponytail, and black plate armor with a skull motif appeared. Udyr scoffed.
"We expected someone less scrawny."
"Heh. I already like you. Don't push it. Anyway, I am Azrakel, of Sanctuary. You may call me the Necromancer."
"We- I am called Udyr, and YOU may refer to me as the Spirit Walker."
Both men leered at each other before looking around.
"I already think this is going to go well."
The voice gave an audible sigh, and what sounded like a palm smacking his forehead came from the speakers.

The heavy breathing and grunts coming from the other compartments nearly drowned out the constant loud droll of the helicopters blades. Ocelot couldn’t tell whether he was in the same room with whatever beasts were making the noise but he knew that there were two of them and that they were quite large.

“Tea Mr. Ocelot?” Came a voice from over the radio. Despite the fact that they had blind-folded him and bound his hands they treated him fairly. They obviously wanted something.

“I’m not thirsty.” He replied cordially waving his hand slowly as to not give them a reason to suspect offense. If truth be told he was more intrigued than anything else. The constant roars though did worry him slightly.

“What are those things?” He asked the voice. Apparently they had fitted him with a microphone as well as they seemed to pick up on his speech rather well.

“Nothing you need to concern yourself about until you meet Ewige Kaiserin.”

“The Immortal Empress hm? Interesting.” So apparently there’d be a member of royalty seeking his services. They were so easy to manipulate.

It was several hours before the chopper finally touched down. Several hours of being treated as a guest as the roars and grunts continued as a constant symphony accompanied by the hum of the rotors, several hours of fear ebbing and flowing due to those grunts, and several hours of intrigue and anticipation rising to near unheard of levels. By the time Ocelot stepped off of the chopper he was almost as eager as any other time.

Feeling a set of small hands grasp the blindfold Ocelot mused ‘Children? An African country perhaps? More dictators. Should be f-‘ however his musing was cut short as he looked at the strange creature before him. It appeared to be a small human wearing a polkadotted hat. But its proportions were way too far off. “What are you?”

“I am Guardsman One Hundred and Twenty Nine. The Leader of the Ewige Kaiserin’s illustrious forces. I am a Toad from the Mushroom Kingdom.”

“Impossible. That’s just a myth!” Ocelot stated. It was impossible to believe that those silly video games he saw being sold across America were actually representations of fact.

“Believe what you want.” The creatures squeaky voice made it hard to take seriously despite Ocelot’s surprise “I am instructed to bring you to Ewige Kaiserin.”

“Very well. Are they a toad as well?”

“Of course not. They are human. This way sir.” This one’s manners were more straightforward than the ones on the chopper. It was like they were different species entirely but a quick glance proved them to be the same race.

“So this Empress. What is she like?”

“Ask them yourself. All questions shall be answered in time human. Simply follow me. Your equipment awaits you.”

“Unharmed I hope.”

“All munitions and firearms shall be returned to you when you arrive in Ewige Kaiserin’s Chamber.”

“During the meeting?” That was certainly new. Maybe this Empress didn’t know about Ocelot’s marksmanship. Either way it was an odd choice.

The squat creature however refused to answer leaving Ocelot with only his thoughts and the slow clicking sound of their progression. The castle surrounding him looked like it appeared in a fairy tale. Large marvelous pillars crafted from pure white marble adorned the hall-way accented via many large banners showing artistries that would fetch many millions of dollars in even the humblest of auction houses. Ocelot found himself rather impressed with the décor.

More than that however he was amazed at the creatures inside of the castle more than anything. Creatures that could only be called dragons, walking bombs, monsterous turtles, large balls of iron with teeth and eyes, ghosts floated to and fro but shied away from his gaze, shambling corpse like creature also seemed to be common place. However what  caught his attention was that most of these beings had one trait in common: A small band with a glowing yellow light on their necks.

‘Mind control?” He mused as he and his guide slowly reached a large door.

“This is where I stop. You are permitted to enter. Ewige Kaiserin is expecting you. Your weapon and ammunition should be on the table directly in front of the entrance.”

Sparing a quick glance at One Hundred and Twenty Nine he saw that no collar adorned his neck. So it appeared that some truly were loyal.

Walking into the room was not at all like he expected. These sort of meetings usually resulted in the regent attempting to surprise Ocelot with a show of force. Grand rooms and lavish meals were the norm. However here there was only a simple table containing his equipment and a bed just as plain as the table itself.

‘Certainly going for a wow factor I can see.’ Ocelot mused quietly as he approached the table. Only one chair… This gave him pause but he grabbed his gun-belt regardless. His Single Action Army felt right returning once more to its master’s hand.

“Hello.” Came a distorted voice from everywhere at once.

“You must be the Ewige Kaiserin.” Ocelot replied.

“Quite right. I suppose you’ve been to these sort of meetings before? I’d prefer if we just cut to the chase I’m a very busy man.”

“A man you say? That’s an interesting-“

“My gender is of no concern. Male or Female I can choose to be either until you’ve gained my trust.”

“Huh, you really are into speeding this along aren’t you?”

“Yes. I have a proposition if you’d be so kind as to sit down or stand. I don’t care which.”

“I’ll stand.”

“Very well. I am in the process of starting a war with the Mushroom Kingdom. However a certain… man needs to be apprehended beforehand.”

“So I’m starting a war is it? Should be ea-“

“No. The war will happen regardless of whether or not you fail your objective. This man’s safety is the utmost concern. He and his brother have taken to playing hero. Defeating that Koopa King more times than you could likely count. No, what I need from you is to enter a tournament and capture this man.”

This was certainly different. Most people recruited him to start conflicts. This would be his first retrieval mission in quite some time. “What do I receive from this?”

“Payment that would make the Philosopher’s Legacy appear to be the paycheck from a part-time job.”

This certainly peaked his interest. How many Metal Gears could you create with that sort of money? “Alright. Who is he?”

“His name is Luigi. Brother of Mario. I will have Two Fifty Seven brief you more. Now for you team-mates.”

“Team?” Ocelot never cared for teams. They always made subterfuge harder to pull off. Not to mention the fact that he preferred to hunt alone.

“Yes. I think you’ll find them… Amusing.” The slight pause was punctuated by a laugh just before the door was thrown from its hinges.

“What the!?” Ocelot shouted as he leapt over the table seeking cover from the two beasts in front of him.

One was an eight foot tall monstrosity of muscle. It used to be human. Of that there was no doubt. It was also obvious that the thing could pick him up easily. Torn flesh hung of its upper body and open sores exposing bulging muscle drew the eye to the beast easily. It was obvious what this creature was made for: Destruction. Even its posture showed this as it continuously looked from side to side as though seeking something to smash. It apparently found it in the bed. The collars around its arms flashed red momentarily as the behemoth rushed forward and destroyed the bed within seconds. Splinters flew from the mess as the beast continued to pound it into submission.

Raising his gun to fire a bullet at it the Ewige Kaiserin’s voice spoke “He is in control. Do not worry. Tank here will be more than capable of performing tasks you may be… too scrawny for.”

“And the other… thing?”

“Venusaur.”

The creature appeared to be some weird hybrid of plant and animal. A freak of nature to say the least. A large red flower was its most prominent feature and gave off a slightly pleasant smell. Other than that the large quadraped simply stood there as though awaiting order. It wasn’t wearing a collar though it swayed from side to side as though it longed to… do something.

“So what does it do?”

“You shall be instructed in time. It shall follow your orders however. Well,” Ewige Kaiserin’s voice rang out again “In a moment anyways. Venusaur, you follow this man’s orders now. Treat him well. Make sure he doesn’t get out of line with my lo-“ A small cough masked this small verbal tic “Luigi. Anyway I shall send Three Hundred in momentarily to take you to your true room.”

“Right…” Ocelot couldn’t help but stare at the two beasts who made up his team “Does anyone here have a name?”

“Three Hundred enjoys being called Nerjin. You shall be entering the tournament under his banner. You are a mercenary. You have no ties to me until Luigi is found alive. Now go.”

“Yes Ewige Kaiserin.”

“Oh an Ocelot?”

“Big Boss says hello.”

The implication of this statement caught Ocelot unawares “John!?”

“Oh yes he’s one of my many contacts. If you perform well… Let’s just say I might forget not to tell you where he is.”

Ocelot’s heart thumped in his chest “Yes… Ewige Kaiserin. Luigi shall be captured alive.”

“Excellent. Do not fail.”

Demyx jumped away from a explosion. He fell against Sora and should of stopped being, instead he was dukeing it out with a red haired man with a trumpet that shot air bullets in a rocky valley.

He didn't know why, where or how, but it was enough running. Holding out his sitar, he prepared his move "Wave gi-" a lasso came out of nowhere and immobilize both of them.

Demyx looked at the newcomer, a stick man with a accordion. "Who the hell are you?" asked the red haired man. The stickman smiled "I go by many names, most with numbers added to them, but for now call me the Accordion Thief." "What a odd name." comment Demyx.

"Let me ask a question, did both of you die recently?" Demyx looked at the red haired man who looked back "Yeah, I guess." they both said. The Accordion Thief nodded before turning away "Okay, come out mister 'I'm so mysterious with my, I guessing, face concealing mask."

A man in a grey hoodie peeked out behind some rocks "Damn you ruined my introduction. Fine, I'll spik to the meat of the matter." he got closer "You lot should be dead, but I have a small task so I summon you away from your doom. There is a tournament soon with a prize I want, but I'm not allow to complete because of the 'no gods' rule, plus no teammates. Win or lose I will send you back to a safe place in your world, but if you do win I'll give you a gift as well." He looked at them, his plain mask hiding his face "So what do you say?"

The three look at each others "Fine." said the red haired man "This will be easy!" said the Accordion Thief "Why not?" said Demyx.

"Good! The tournament is five days that way, good luck." the hoodie man said before disappearing in smoke.

The three men look at the smoke for a moment before yelling "DAMN IT!"

The mysterious employer who had taken Udyr and the Necromancer pondered on the venture he was about to embark on. He examined the glove he was wearing- a white, leather glove, with a keypad on it- before rubbing his chin, pondering the potential benefits of this job.
"Hm. If I can simply win this tournament, perhaps I shall be able to solve my more pressing problems...no....not right now. I must find out what-"
He was interrupted by a phone ringing. He answered.
"Yes?"
"It's me. I have a new objective for you."
"What?"
"Out of curiosity, have you ever been to the Mushroom Kingdom?"
"No, I don't believe I've had the pleasure. Why?"
"Their greatest heroes, the Mario Brothers, want in this tournament. Specifically, Luigi."
"And what do you want me to do? Take him in? I can only take three in. You know the rules as well as I do- which, thus far, isn't much."
"To the contrary, I want you to protect Luigi."
"Oh?"
"I have a special interest that might be advanced if he were to be protected."
"From what, precisely?"
"I will inform you when I can. As far as our intel goes, we don't know who they're sending in to get him. All I know is that someone wants Luigi captured, possibly to take Mario with him, leaving the Mushroom Kingdom without 99% of their military strength."
"And what do you expect me to do?"
"You know what to do."
"You're suggesting I break conduct and interfere directly? You know what happened last time."
"You have Udyr, the Necromancer, and Zoroark. You know what to do."
"I don't normally participate in escort missions- too risky and personal. What do I get from this?"
"Unimagineable power."
"Not interested. I come from a place where power is given to the wrong men- and wrong creatures. And I have a power of my own."
"Fine then. How about this- a clean slate. You can go home. No catch. Just keep Luigi free and make sure that he stays free. In return, you'll be exonerated of your mistakes and you can go home free."

The employer reflected upon the potential of this. He could go home. After such a long time, he could go home! All he had to do was stop some random guys from kidnapping one of the Mario brothers. That's all he had to do. And he could go home.
"Fine. But I want no more of this. You and I, we're through. Only contact me if you're desperate enough. I'm not going to be cheap. It's your fault in the first place I'm even on the run in the first place."
"Excellent. You will recieve further intel as the tournament continues. And, by the way, Maria says hi, Collins. She demanded I pass the message along. Good day, Collins."

The other man hung up. Collins sighed, and pounded his desk.
"That bastard better keep his side of the deal."
He stood up and walked off, calling two guards to come with him.
"Come, we're going to go see to that Zoroark. Make sure he's bound, he's feisty!"

Turn 0

The competing teams arrived at the tournament entrance hall, each arriving through their own means.  The teams proceeded to enter through the doorways which had their team’s symbol .  After navigating twisted corridors, they each arrived at the end of the pathway.  The path ended within an utterly colossal underground ravine.  Each of the paths continued towards a circular platform that was apparently suspended within midair.  After some hesitation, the various team members walked onto the platforms, the torches illuminating the platforms allowing them to see that the order of the doors at the beginning of the path was not the same as what was seen now.

Once all of the teams stood upon the platforms, a large amount of energy focused on the opposite side of the ravine.  An orb of white and black swirling energy appeared there, and disappeared after a short time, in its place were three individuals, the Grandmasters.

Welcome to the tournament, competitors,” spoke one of the Grandmasters.  “The tournament will begin in a short while, but we shall inform you now of whom you will be facing before we leave you to your own devices for the next hour.”  After this short statement, fire began to spread from the front of the platforms, to the surprise of some of the competitors, and the short fear of others.  The fires began to spread through the air, eventually linking with another platform’s line of fire.  The fires linked ‘The Team’ and ‘The Underdogs’, ‘Team Sain’ and ‘Team Music’, ‘LoL Brigade’ and ‘The Deadly Seven’, and ‘Team Legends and a Heretic’ and ‘Nerjin’s Mercenaries.’

Another of the Grandmasters spoke up, “the fires display whom you will be facing in the first matches.  Prepare yourselves, and come back here in one hour.”  With that, the strange orb of energy remanifisted, and when it disappeared, the Grandmasters were gone.

Spoiler: Team Sain Origin Story (click to show/hide)

Guts raised an eyebrow.

"Team Music? What kind of groups are these?"

"They appear   bland," Urgot rasped.

"Are they still dangerous?" Ayane asked, eying the enemy platforms.

"They are still   enemies," Urgot responded, "Can-not   take them lightly."

Ayane gave a quiet 'hmph'.

"What I wanna know is, where are these guys' weapons?" Guts said, furrowing his brow at the menagerie around him. "These're all soldiers, right?" He spared a glance at Ayane as well.

"Mages and   monks, presumably," Urgot responded.

"A Hajin Mon Kunoichi doesn't need weapons for the likes of these," Ayane sneered back at Guts.

"...is that a mage or a monk?"
