Journal Entry:

Well, Maybe they're not as stupid as I thought they were last week. They actually managed to put together some decent tools, though Mick's humans seem to have a slightly better axe design. And those birds and their bows will start bringing in plenty of leather and bone now too. Now that we have tools though we should get started on expansion and preservation. I think over there just inside the tree-line would make a fine place for a root-cellar.

Addendum:

That bright spot's back and it won't stay still. I'm going to have to set a trap for it. I'll be sure to catch it then!

Have 20 axe-nekos go into the forest to investigate the strange anomaly the bird-folk spoke of, being sure to carry extra axes so they can throw some before getting too close if combat is called for.

The other 10 start felling trees just inside the treeline and all into one spot. After trees are felled the builders and any others we can get to help start digging a large hole, about 10 feet by 10 feet and 5 to 7 feet deep with a ramp on one side to get into the bottom. The axe-nekos get to work splitting some of the logs (using a technique similar to this. Just the first part though.) to make planking to line the sides of the cellar with whole logs planted firmly in the corners and every few feet along the walls. Once the walls are up, back-fill dirt around the edges and use whole logs to create the roof then cover it with all the excess dirt that came out of the hole. Fashion a door from some smaller logs and cordage and get all the food moved in as soon as possible.

The weaponsmiths should take any flint and small bits of leather and make some knives. Then use the knives to make some bone needles.

The armoursmiths should use the knives to slice up some leather into very thin strips then using the strips and the needles and any thread that's been made start making some leather jerkins for the whole group. Will be useful for the hunters should they get to close to anything big and anyone else once it starts getting cold in a few months time. (Jerkin image)

The wizards should continue assisting the half-elves with the summoning.

Journal Entry 2:

Well, it was an interesting week to say the least, but the fields are established, and we've gathered plenty of other food besides. Some actual shelter may be in order soon, but we've yet to gather sufficient lumber for the job. We could make a plethora of those tents that I've seen around, and to be fair, we could use them for hunting parties later... maybe we should do that. Right then, list of things to do this week.

Continue clearing trees with the axemen. (8 axemen)

Get the farmers to create 3 more large farm plots for edible plants and plant them using available tools. (30 Farmers)

Begin constructing the Promtho tents, until we have enough to house 100 people, but stop if the leather count drops below 100. Might as well help out our other friends here. (8 builders)

See if we can get some hunting done for more leather. (2 weavers, 2 clothesmakers.)

Lets see what this week brings us.

p.s. In I few weeks I could see an avian strike. The lack of viable bulk transportation is to be addressed, soon.

Make an announcement: hunters, gatherers and fishermen should restrain themselves just a little bit and do not take much more than needed, to avoid depleting the area. Conform to these rules.

Archers have the priority in our "quota", because of the usefulness of leather.

Farmers and orchardeers are to finish the farmplots and plant them (as they already were instructed to do). Orchard should be fast growing trees.

Everybody try to get some tents up in their free time, especially the writers. Get help from other groups if necessary.

By night, writers raise the morale of the group by storytelling.

@Elephant Parade
Horseback Riding and Combat are not valid skills (they're just...-there-, really), so for the moment your major skill is spears unless you want to make it something else. Also pick a race.

I'll probably make animal taming innate as well (it's more dependent on how willing the animal is to be tamed, the way I see it).
Good call on hunting.

@Kaian-a-coel
I uh, hate to make it a requirement but either bold it or make it noticeable so I can tell the difference between "suggestion" and "turn submission".  :-[

@evilcherry
I haven't thought that far yet. Good idea though.  :D

@techno65535
Our village location is...in need of a map on the front page. God dammit.
I'll get it together at some point, I swear. ::)
Anyways, our location is in the middle of not-trees. The forest region is easy enough to reach in terms of access but not for construction purposes; any materials will need to be carried back to camp.
So the Granary you suggested (which I think is what it is: you might wanna name it) would just require more airlift capability than convenience.

@All
I'm surprised nobody has built a bridge yet. Or a wagon for that matter.

as Avians we would rather revolt than to build that convenience ourselves..

Well, darn, drag/get help moving logs to building location then. And it's a root cellar, stays cool as it's underground, helps food last longer. Granaries are usually above ground and need to stay dry. They're for storing grain after all.

Just so you know Elephant, we don't currently have any way to forge...anything, no forge, barely have tents and stone tools.

Then I will make primitive weapons! Stone spears and leather armour!

tired...

Quick turn to deal with the event:

Mick himself along with his harpoon armed fishers and axe armed woodcutters (I didn't assume axemen would make good woodcutters aswell, since most games differentiate the two. Happy to have them to be axemen :P) and ventured nervously into the forest to make contact with whatever had been watching them. Periodically, Mick calls out: ''We mean no harm, and wish to make contact.''
If it's an animal, see if it attacks them or not. If not, then leave it be. If so, chase it away or kill it.

If it's sentient beings, assure them that they are not here for trouble, though better safe than sorry with the armed escort. Invite them to become part of the town, citing plentiful food but will need to haul their own weight.

Will get proper turn up tomoz. Zzz's for now.

@Elephant Parade
Pick a race goddammit   :P
(I'll randomly roll your race if you don't want to pick one.)

@techno65535
I figured, but then "Granary" is generic enough for "place to store food". And we don't have a fridge yet, so...
You will have help getting the materials in place, just wanted to say we're not actually -next- to a forest.  ::)

@Maxinum McDreich
Well, they both can cut wood, but lumberjacks are better at chopping and hauling trees and axemen are better at chopping and not-hauling corpses.

This combat trial is largely for smoothing out any mechanics issue combat may have. So I don't end up tripping down a cliff later. :D

Anyways, what do we do about the scout?

The deadline for Week 4's action submission will be pushed back to Friday, Wednesday is for the start of Combat.
Be on the alert for epic GM fail. :D

I'm sigging this.

My vote is interrogation, in the dark, by glowing-eyed cat folk while someone sharpens a blade behind him.
