Pumpkin spice beer. For when you have to simultaneously be white girl sentimental and white girl wasted.
Also tried some barleywine. It was... unexpected. Really stronk taste. Not stronk as in very alcoholic (though it is pretty stronk in that way as well), but stronk like you take a sip and are like "whoa. Whoa hold the fcuk on". It's pretty cool at first, but the specific brand that I tried has an unpleasant aftertaste that sort of mounts as you drink it. So you start your glass smiling at how weird and delightful it is, but finish it frowning with regret at the fact that now you have to deal with this weird sticky sort of taste and you're all out of beer.

Tonight *though officially yesterday was the night we remember the immortal memory of our Lord and Saviour... Admiral Horatio Nelson, as he valiantly sacrificed his own life to save us from that greatest most original sin: the French. But in all seriousness, the French are a glorious contribution to the world, and let us not forget the Spanish, who delivered me no less than 4 glasses of red wine. That is not to say little of London's beers, of which tonight I partook many, nor of the most powerful of peoples of this world: The Portuguese, who in turn supplied me with no less than six glasses of fortified Maderian vintage aptly known as Port. To that end, as I drunk tea, was drunk on many things, hearing tales of the sea, my deafened ears bore witness to the uproar of so many peers chanting Rule Britannia, I myself reminiscing on the scathing rebuke one of my Professors gave but a year prior on what kind of person would sing this song - I myself, joining this glorious chorus of valiant gallantry singing to the memory and future of free-mankind on the seas. It was the best rendition of that song I'd ever heard in my life, aided by the heroic efforts of a SINGLE violinist, whose sonorous sounds will soothe my memory for as long as I am living to remember. Bless him, bless tea, bless Port and bless my own wisdom for seeing my limit but a drink short of being hungover even when such drinking obscures it, and never forget: Bermudan Rum goes well with a bit of lemon and lime, but it is on our time that we make merry with our friends, and I toast we sing to a sickly season and a quick promotion. And pray, let me not forget the chap named after a river, who paid for my drink knowing full well I had not the penny to pay this week, truly a man is amongst saints (and seriously he trusted me with his card and pin, it's warming that he found me such a trustworthy person, nevertheless I felt obliged to warn that had I been born a villain I would've ordered 100 bottles of champagne or somesuch nonsense).
In summation: the Australians are based and make good wine. Fuck Damo though, he's always stealing me lighter.

I have discovered a wondrous nectar that my wife and I have dubbed "Doctored Pepper".

Dr. Pepper and blue raspberry Svedka. Somehow this removes the burn of the alcohol and the bite of the soda, leaving behind candy.

Relevant because I got a bit drunk last night.

I salut [sic] your self-control, the best part of having a glorious night.
What an adventure you had!  Thank you for sharing.

Ginger ale does the same for me.  I love the bite of ginger while sober, and it is ex-cellent at masking the bite of liquor.
Or simulating liquor, when I need to dismiss a craving.

Ginger ale is just in general fantastic all round. Does root beer do a similar job? I've never known, as I've always found it rather hard to come by root beer

Root beer is one of the few drinks I'll actually drink sweet (I go for diet ginger ale).  I've only mixed it with liquor a couple of times, and it's basically like using Cola from what I remember.  It's alright, but nothing special.

also wow, last night kinda rocked

I always hated Rum n Coke or really adding anything to Coke/Root Beer etc.

It was straight liquor or fancy cocktails for me.

So I drank all of the Svedka shortly after posting last. Now I've got some sour green apple vodka. It's somewhat tasty but super sweet. If you can ignore the hint of alcohol smell, it's basically green apple candy. I imagine I'll have a bad time if I drink too much at once. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

If you can't tell, I like fruity drinks (my favorite thus far was a grapefruit vodka, bet you didn't see that last word coming). I don't necessarily want them to be diabeetus levels of sweet, though.

Friends help anchor one in the complicated real world, instead of contemplating the horrible infinity of "existence".
Jobs can do the same.  I miss the job I lost the job that stopped existing, due to corporate incompetence.
Regardless, I miss it a lot.  Especially when I let myself be sentimental.

I can't let myself be as uselessly sentimental as before, but it is likely good from time to time.  This is good Green Man beer from the land I left, and in moderation.
There are things to do tomorrow, and I will do them...  "Everyone has an important job to do."

Gosh, a post in here just as I was posting in the photo thread about probably being better off in the drunk thread. Are we simultaneously drunk across the gulf of time zones, Rolan? :D

I cannot relate to that description of friendships, though. For the most part on my occasional forays into social life I struggle greatly to understand the real-life issues faced by my (close) friends. I don't know. Their existence probably makes a lot more sense than mine, but not to me, an outsider, y'know?

My sleep "schedule" is pretty shot, from car-sleeping :P

It might be that someone has to be pretty close for me to call them a friend.  I used to question how little I deserved my (relatively recent, 5-year) circle of friends.  But that was just anxiety talking, ignore that.  Relax, and put forth a little effort/insight, that's enough.

Just acquired a pretty sweet haul of cheap booze from the local bottleshop.
A four-pack of freakin' eight percent beer for under twenty bucks - and these are huge cans we're talking! Along with that I just grabbed a four-pack of JD and cola, probably could have gotten some more cost-effective whiskey off their bottom shelf but I kinda wanted something in a can and familiar, and this was cheaper than SoCo premix.

Now to decide what to drink first, before heading to the party...

WTF ain't none of y'all never get drunk no more? :( :( :( :(
I wound up getting completely wasted on the cheap boozins I mentioned in my last post, by the way. That and the punch that was on offer at the party... I believe I got very messy indeed, but I didn't piss off the friend whose party it was at least (and the stuff I apparently dropped somewhere on the ground nearby was miraculously returned), so yay! Socialisation successful! :D

Anyway, right now I have finally taken my housemate's advice and picked up a bottle of bottom-shelf rum from the local bottleshop. I had planned on making the trek over to another liquor store that sells slabs of 30 (extremely decent) tinnies for $38 (!!!), but this way I've saved almost $18 for use over the weekend. Plus it was a much shorter walk to get - I don't know if even my recently embiggened muscles coulda held up lugging a whole slab (a bigger than usual one too) for over a kilometre.

Currently pre-drinking for a gig tonight. Should be reasonably rad. Mixed my cheap-ass rum with ginger ale.

Sorry, turns out that having housemates again kinda reduces my interest in booze-fueled vision quests :P
This must be that "social drinking" thinger!

Speaking of, one of them saved a whole bottle of Jim Beam from a dead relative's house.  He said it was probably going to be thrown out, which I found horrifying.  The three of us did shots and daaaaaamn, it's nice to taste good stuff occasionally.  Smooth, instead of like vinegar.

In fact I'm pretty sure it was heresy for them to do shots.  I held it in my mouth for a while because, you know, it actually tasted good.  But hey, I didn't buy it :D
(Looks like it's "only" about 3X more expensive than what I'm used to... pretty tempting.  Though the idea we came up with was starting with shots of good stuff, then switching to the Admiral Nelson or whatever.)

Edit:  And heck yeah, cheap rum with ginger ale is my jam!  That or V8 juice.  Honestly the vinegar taste just disappears into tomato juice, for me.
