I once had a pig tail fiber short skirt, which was decorated with elf bone. On the skirt was an image of an elf being killed by a goblin five hundred years ago.

That dwarf really seemed to hate elves, is what I'm saying.
This is what happens when you let bay12ers into your fort.

I once had a mason make a chalk coffin decorated with silk cloth and a picture of dingoes.

What makes it memorable?  Eight days later, she gave birth to a baby boy.

In my last fort I finally got my first truly useful artifact weapon, an adamantine battle axe... just in time to put it to good use welcoming the circus.

From one earlier fort I still remember the two consecutive leather artifacts:

- "The Memory of Fondling", a goat leather left mitten and
- "Purgeloves", a grizzly bear leather short skirt.

Those made me to pay closer attention to what the dwarves were doing in their free time. That fort was suspiciously keen on all leather clothing anyway...

I didn't know there were skirts in the game. Also, I was positive there were dresses at one point.
There are still dresses. It tends to be the clothing that EVERYONE wears on embark in my fort.

Furniture is always wonderful. Bracelets are so annoying. That's why I've added that mod for a display cabinet: I was so annoyed by a fort which had no less than six craft/clothing moods. I didn't want that to happen again.

DFhack let's you display things on tables. I wonder if it has an actual effect on the dwarves. Like can they view the artefact or other item and get happy thoughts...

I don't know much about DFHack, I'm sorry. I followed this thread and this thread and this thread to their obvious conclusion.

I didn't know there were skirts in the game. Also, I was positive there were dresses at one point.

I've had a fort where high boots (my favourite dwarf armour) were "foreign". I've had other forts where robes were "foreign". You're just in a fort where dresses are "foreign". Mostly I see skirts for sale from the elves. No kilts as yet. Imagine a fort where socks were thought of as "foreign"....  :o

I was for a long time confused by the fact that they only sold one thong at a time. What was I meant to put on the other foot of that dwarf? A boot? That would look pretty odd. Also, workplace regulations for wearing uncovered shoes in a smelting workshop seemed pretty scary.... Then I realised that this was a game made by Americans. XD XD XD There was this moment of "oooooh  ::) :-[, that's the first underwear I've seen in the game! Ha!"    :D

ahh thong like flip-flops, then. I wear only those, shoelaces are for suckers.

SO what do other cultures call thongs?
Sorry for double post, but aren't thongs... well, G-strings? Those are underwear, not shoes.

that was the point, not every country uses thongs in that sense. So I was wondering what thongs are called there.

I've had my mayor go into a mood and produce a stone ring while the rest of the fortress was getting slaughtered by a webbing FB

After a disaster, a child with many friends & relations went melancholy. I feared his eventual death would push the fortress into a tantrum spiral.

An adult hauling stone had a fell mood. I burrowed him near a butcher's shop I'd built beneath a cistern (I build artificial floors in my cisterns to save hauling stone) far from the rest of the fortress. I also burrowed the child there.

Things took their natural course. Nobody was sad when the child was missing for a week, and hey, that's a really nice new artifact bed in the dormitory!

I once had a secretive armorsmith mood create a steel breatplate. About 5 frames after I closed the announcement popup he got stabbed in the lungs by a kobold thief.
I couldn'd decide if I should laugh about that delicious irony or angrily shout at my screen.

I hope the next announcement wasn't about a kobold thief making off with an artifact breastplate. But if it was, that would make the irony complete.

Um... Thongs are what the Americans, I think, call flip-flops. Basically a shoe sole with two thin straps for over your toes. Thongs. I have several pairs of thongs on my shoe rack right now, as it is summer.

Having spoken to a few Americans, I know that they call, for some odd reason, their underwear a "thong", presumably because it also has a thin strap, the same as a pair of thongs do. I know that in medieval times, a thong was a piece of narrow leather. Bags were tied with a thong, fastened with a thong. Things were strapped to a horse with several strong thongs. Perhaps that's the root of the word.

I had a planter who demanded shells. I realized I didn't have any turtles, it was a desert map, so I bought some from the merchants, but they didn't contain shells! After reading the wiki article about shell, I locked him and let him go insane.
I started my new fortress in the same desert. Shortly after that, I spotted a desert tortoise crawled across the sand....

I just had a dwarf make a 2400 urist animal trap out of cow bone and nothing else.  The kicker?  It was a possession too.  I swear I am this close to modding possessions out of the game.

Urist McWeaponsmith with no item preferences made an adamantine warhammer.

A few years later Urist McWeaponsmith2 made...an adamantine mace with the image of the warhammer on it. I hate these dwarves so much.
