this is the script to censor troll images. When the troll strikes, if someone can PM me any more stuff that slips through the 'net, I can improve the detection.

http://jgame.net.au/scripts/bay12troll.js

This is JavaScript, which needs to run with GreaseMonkey extension on FireFox, or TamperMonkey on Chrome to run properly. You'll have to save this file yo your drive as bay12troll.user.js, then try opening the file in your browser to install it. Let me know of any issues you come across in doing so.

See near the top, there is a small table with two entries "porn" and "surgery". Those are partial matches on the image urls from sites the troll uses. I guess this could also block legitimate images with those keywords in the url, but I doubt they'd be legit anyway.

To test that the script is working for you, try changing those entries to "jpg" and "png". Keep all punctuation the same. All jpg images on Bay12 should change to kittens and pngs to rainbows, on reload. When you're sure you have this installed in your browser set the keywords as needed. And let me know of any improvements that I can make. I'm thinking of adding a language filter for the board topics.

Yhea, should I move to a different browser? Because I've been seeing Chrome getting a lot of hate lately.

I just got it running in Chrome without much problem. I did it by opening the settings->tools->extensions, and dragging the script in there. After that, a reload of bay12 in Chrome has the images being swapped out, though Chrome seems to show more of the old images before the swap occurs, so on Chrome you might be exposed to the troll images a split second longer while the page loads.

But Chrome spits the dummy when I open the browser again because there's a custom extension (written by me) that isn't registered with the Google App Store, and just decides to disable both the script and the option to re-enable it, without me getting a choice in the matter (well I get to choose between permanent disablement and outright deletion). Apparently the tech support "solution" is to get the script's author to upload it to the app store. I guess I could install TamperMonkey (the Chrome equivalent of GreaseMonkey), but this defeats the purpose of switching to Chrome because I heard it has native GreaseMonkey support.

So, I'd add "install TamperMonkey on Chrome or GreaseMonkey on FireFox" to the instructions.

You can always install firefox (try "firefox portable" because it has no install footprint) alongside Chrome to try both out.

I don't know if this counts as discussion, but I am suspicious of this account. I find it likely we'll be trolled by it, so a preemptive mute might be in order, at least for tonight. It was made at the same time all other troll accounts were made.

Cool, it's all fixed, and everyone remember to check out the OP to see Reelya's little piece of code, it's pretty easy to install and the spoiler contains a XKCD image that (if it's working) the code should turn into kittens/rainbows/magical cobble road.
It's pretty cool.
