I think he is saying in this setting, Spelljammer will need to be separate from the D&D whole for simplicity's sake.

Not in this game it isn't. Spelljammer and the other DnD settings have their own part of the multiverse, and to hell with what the canon says about their multiverses, as it only applies to the multiverse as defined in DnD and not as myself and Sanure do.
