The cross looks a little too similar to the Reichskriegsflagge IMO, though maybe the non-cross one has something to it.

Year 1913 AC (After Colonization) Hot Season, Combat Phase

Salviosi Successes

This season a network of facilities were constructed in the desert to aid in the production of Chemical Compounds. Efforts were also made to fortify the Rolling Hills, bringing Entrenchment in the sector to One (1).

As a result of our new production of Chemical Compounds we see the following changes:

The GA-1b and GBC-13 Scylla lose their [complex] tags.
The GA-1b becomes (CHEAP).

Arina Marcia Jasso has become something of a legend among her peers.

The nation of Salvios now has a flag to call it's own. It flies over many buildings across the whole of the Salviosi lands.

Thanks to the aid of the LEA-13 we were able to better coordinate and direct our agents on the ground as they infiltrated Abberan facilities in an attempt to glean information about our foes. Unfortunately, while the Abberans definitely did not suspect a thing, their poor bookkeeping (consisting mostly of schematics with "BEEG" scribbled across it) resulted in us getting less intel than we'd have liked. We didn't come away with nothing, however. (4+4-1(Peek)=7; No additional modifiers from Abbera)

Quote from: Resource
Abberan Royal Kinetic Sheep: Sheep whose wool is capable of dispersing kinetic energy across it's surface. Higher-grade wool is able to dissipate a larger amount of force.
Quote from: Infantry Equipment
ARA Model-1911A "Modea" Self-Loading Rifle: The first Self-Loading Rifle to see combat, the "Modea" is 4.5 kg and a meter in length. It fires 7.92x57mm rounds fed into the weapon by a 12-round en bloc magazine. It has variable sights and is effective to 400 meters. She's packs a punch but suffers from unreliable internal components. The end of the barrel is lightly threaded to allow attachment of a cup launcher. Costs 2 Ore and 2 Wood (CHEAP)

ARA Model-1912MG "Scythe" Heavy Machine Gun: Utilizes the same 7.92x57mm rounds used by the "Modea". Fires 80-round belts that can be linked together for sustained fire. The barrel rarely overheats even at it's 650 rpm fire rate, but is somewhat inaccurate. Carried around in weight-negating cases. Costs 5 Ore and 3 Caelium. (EXPENSIVE)

ARA Model-1911APG "Wickerman" Incendiary Grenade: A 15-cm long White Phosphorus grenade. The grenade has 15m area of effect, an 8 second fuse, and a dud has never been encountered. Costs 1 Ore and 1 Chemical Compounds, making it (CHEAP), but is considered [complex] until we have access to Chemical Compounds.

ARA Model-1912ARM "Paladin" Superheavy Armor: Thick shaped plates of armor attached to an exoskeleton with a soldier strapped inside. The plates of armor have a coating of Powdered Caelium negating part of the effects of gravity on them. As a result, the 50kg suit only weighs 15kg for the purposes of the force needed to move it. Plates can be dislodged by gunfire and "powered down" to normal weight, though improvements to the frame and cabling have reduced this occurrence drastically. A battery in the back has a life of one hour before needing to be replaced by one of two "Squires" assigned to assist the "Paladin". A green-yellow glow can be seen through small spaces in the armor. Costs 7 Ore and 4 Caelium. (VERY EXPENSIVE)
Quote from: Heavy Weaponry
ARA Model-1913ART "Jotunn": A massive 420mm cannon capable of firing HE shells and the new Depleted Gavrilium-based Rime Shell out to 10km. The 900kg shells take up to 7 minutes to load and fire, but are devastating on impact. Makes use of a winch system to lift the huge shells. Calls for Ore and Gavrilium. (CHEAP)
Quote from: Vehicles
ARA-1912MP-T "Faithful": A reliable 4-wheeled truck with a closed cab and covered bed. Can sit eight men and equipment, though up to twelve can be crammed in if the Scythe mounted on a truss behind the cab goes unmanned. Has a top speed of 25km/h. Costs 3 Ore and 4 Oil. (EXPENSIVE)

South Peaks Shoot-Out

The South Peaks are warm during the Hot Season, but not uncomfortably so. Plant life crawls up the mountainsides from the steep valleys and ravines below. Movement through the South Peaks is dangerous, and you feel as though standard infantry combat is going to weigh heavily on combat outcomes in this sector, as most vehicles will likely find navigating the narrow passes, small caves, and sheer cliffs very difficult if not outright impossible.

Luckily our infantry is well-equipped to handle the varied engagement ranges forced upon them in the South Peaks. The Selicate Empire proved to favor long-range engagement in this sector, and the Salviosi forces responded in kind. Arina Marcia Jasso saw her abilities put to the test as she was tasked with hunting down a pair of snipers harassing Salviosi camps. A number of officers had been killed by these snipers and they had begun to seriously damage the morale of the troops. Arina had been slowly closing in on them for the better part of a week. A small barely manned Salviosi supply camp was set up in a small field surrounded by steep upwards cliffs, with a small central spring and a single pass out. She knew these two marksmen were somewhere nearby, but didn't know exactly where, and so she waited.

The sun was beginning to set, casting a beautiful red light on the mountainside opposite Jasso when a brief glimmer caught her eye. Using her brilliantly engineered scope she was able to spot, just barely, one of the Selicate marksmen. By doing some quick calculations Arina estimated that he was around 800 meters away. She adjusted for distance, and minimally for the almost nonexistent wind, before exhaling and gently squeezing the trigger. The rifle kicked, but Arina was able to hold steady and saw the round drop through his head and into some loose rock behind him. Arina felt a brief swelling of pride before fragments of rock were kicked up in her face as a round from the second sniper ricocheted within arm's length of her head. She rolled to get behind the cover of a rock but swore she saw the muzzle flash of the other marksman again as he fired his second shot.

Arina waited for a few long moments before slowly peeking out of the opposite side of her rock. She aimed immediately for where she suspected the marksman was and, sure enough, there he was, aiming right for her. She fired her rifle and in nearly the same moment felt the kick of a round slamming into the barrel of her rifle. Arina rolled back into cover and checked her rifle. The end of the barrel was mangled. Without a rifle of her own to use, Arina wanted to check if she'd hit her target, but didn't want to risk her head. So she hung her helmet over the end of the barrel of her rifle and poked it out of cover. Nobody fired at it. Eventually a couple of the soldiers from the camp made their way to Arina, who filled them in on what she was doing there and where the bodies of her targets should be. Both were in fact recovered not long after.

Arina Marcia Jasso began getting referred to as "The Huntress" by those who feared and respected her on both sides of the conflict.

------------

Savannah Assault

The Hot Season Savannah is covered in grasses as tall if not taller than a man. Dirt roads cut through the area to connect the occasional slice of civilization. There is an occasional storm, but for the most part the rains on the Savannah are light and scattered.

Selicate forces had constructed a small outpost that overlooked a significant intersection of roads throughout the area. A handful of Roofed Sleds led the assault on the position. The outpost's towers had a difficult time getting angles on the men within the Roofed Sleds, and so had to turn their attention to more distant targets in Armored Sleds. The Roofed Sleds were able to literally walk the men within into the perimeter of the outpost, where the Caelium foil was powered down and the Sleds turned into static armored firing positions. One of them was overrun by Selicate soldiers though and the LGG-13 was turned against it's own kind. While coming under fire from their own terrifying weapon was fear-inducing, the position was retaken, with the men utilizing the new M3 to devastating effect without absolutely incinerating everything. Ultimately the combination of an SMG, assault-oriented grenade, and reliable deployment option have become a devastating combo and led to the relatively easy overrunning of the Savannah Outpost. The commander of the regional Selicate forces was at the outpost and surrendered himself over to the Salviosi. He handed over documents that show orders for the Selicate forces to withdraw from Harren Island and redeploy in a push against the Free Holds. A small group of volunteers was to stay behind and harass our forces, and so we must remain aware of that.

------------

Once more we take another great step forward in securing Salvios. Our use of these newfound resources on Harren has come to the attention of various members of The League of United Nations and they ask that we provide them with some equipment utilizing these resources. Note that you are granting them the use of a current design, not being asked to make one for them. This will have consequences in regards to the war as it progresses, though right now you know that you will get one research credit for handing over a design utilizing at least one specialty resource. This credit will be the first you are allowed to bank for use at a later date.

As we dedicate more resources to the war effort you will also have two designs to vote on this Design Phase. As we expect little to no resistance as we move to the South Crossing, we have decided to leave it up to you to decide how we will proceed into the Fortress-City. This decision will not be finalized until the end of the Strategy Phase, but it will heavily impact the terms of engagement during the next turn's Combat Phase and so should be discussed for as long as possible. The decisions you have are as follows:

A) Blow the Bridges and Fortify: Salviosi engineers will sabotage the bridges into and out of Harren City. We will instead focus on fortifying our homeland, bringing the South Peaks, South Crossing, and Savannah to Two Entrenchment.
B) Evacuate City: Allow civilians to evacuate the city. This will grant the goodwill of the people (resulting in a Resource Credit as they work harder for a caring nation), though it will delay progress into Harren City.
C) Invade: Salviosi forces march onto Harren City in an effort to root out Selicate soldiers as well as keep the Abberan Scum off their homeland.

Possible Results:

A+A) Combat is delayed for another turn and Harren City remains unoccupied.
A+B) B begins the next combat phase at 75% Control of Harren, while A will be launching an amphibious invasion for the remaining 25%.
A+C) C gains 100% Control of Harren City immediately. A must launch an amphibious assault against a fully occupied Fortress-City.
B+B) Both sides start the next phase at 50% Control of Harren City.
B+C) C begins combat at 75% Control of Harren City, while B initially has 25% Control.
C+C) Both sides start the next phase at 50% Control of Harren City.

So to summarize, you have Two Designs and must decide on a design to send your allies that uses a specialty resource this Design Phase, and must decide on a strategy for Harren City by the end of the Strategy Phase.

IT IS NOW THE DESIGN PHASE.

Right, here's an idea to get our airforce up and running:

PAS-13 'Perahudara' Patrol Airship
The Salviosi Arsenal was a thing of beauty and a source of national pride; being able to turn out 100 vessels in 100 days (alright, they were pretty small vessels, and it was only for a limited time as we only needed so many ships and ships tend to be expensive, but this was still very impressive for our nation!)... Or at least, it was, before the Selicates sabotaged and destroyed our port facilities... And with their navy on the prowl around our lands, we feared that the Arsenal would never regain its former glory.. Until today, when our engineers proposed what will herald the future of naval warfare: the 'Perahudara' Patrol Airship.

Well, Airship is a bit of a misnomer; Airboat would probably be more appropriate, as the 'Perahudara' is very small by naval standards, as is fitting of a patrol boat. The 'Perahudara' is armed with only a single 105mm Scylla artillery piece mounted in the prow (and as such allowing the gun to depress much, much more than usual), and a pair of LGG's, 1 on each side, to deny any reconnaissance or attack aeroplanes that they may come up with.

A pair of Caelium Lifting Engines lifts the 'Perahudara', mounted on the top of the airship (in the event of extreme rolls or pitches, this will produce a pendulum type effect to level out the ship), and said engines are protected to be very resilient to rifle caliber rounds; so that even an LGG would need some sustained fire to penetrate. The craft is largely made out of Caelium Steel (except for the keel and some of the lowermost plating, both to lessen costs and reinforce which orientation the craft should naturally settle in); so as to lessen stress on the lifting engines. A more traditional Gavrilium engine powering a propeller assembly is mounted towards the rear of the boat, on a rotating assembly to provide both propulsion and turning capability. Finally, there's a set of landing gear; resembling drydock bracing rather than typical aeroplane equipment; allowing the Patrol Boat to land more or less anywhere there is a roughly Perahudara-sized sufficiently flat space.

So for the design handover, I think we should send something that only uses one special resource. This narrows us to the M2, either of the machine guns, or the GA1. Or the gav engine component. Of those, I think the LGG will make the most difference while using little enough gavrillium to be occasionally useful to them. I think their ability to use what we give them will be taken into consideration - for them I imagine the LGG will be expensive and complex, due to having greater ore reserves than us but no gavrillium, and probably a good pick. Alternatively, the gavrillium engine - while the engine in itself won't be useful, having the design to add to new vehicles will be quite helpful, and it's kinda the basis for a lot of our things. We also could give them the lifting suit - extremely helpful even in limited amounts - but that gives them two resources, and makes it harder to amaze them with myomers down the line :P

The research credit is a major thing to consider - we should use it on something we really want to work well, or on something that's very hard. As such, I can think of two things we should use it on: A semi-automatic rifle like they have, or our power armor. I can't imagine either being very difficult, to be honest, but they will have the greatest effects if they come out really strong - the difficulty can be considered a cap for how effective these things can be. While yeah, they have armor, it's not powered armor in any way but lack of weight - in a 1v1 I'd want the Avalanche to beat their Paladin. And our main rifle being anywhere from superior to unexpected boon would simply be awesome.

As for what we do at Harren, I think B or C. The resource credit would be nice for the opening engagement, but C has better odds of getting us further in and I don't want to be at 25%. I can't imagine they'll do A either way when that could possibly result in us taking complete control of Harren, so at best we get 75% and at worst 50%.

Avalanche Armored Lifting Suit

The Mountain Myomer Lifting Suit was a triumph of engineering and proved what can be done if we combine the unique resources of our island. However, it is not fit for combat deployment due to it's exposed power supply and other factors. This must be remedied, as the potential applications are vast.

The basis of the Avalanche is, obviously, the Mountain. No need to reinvent the wheel. It is from this point that we begin to change things. The "Armored" part of "Armored Lifting Suit" comes in the form of Caelium Steel armor. This resembles medieval plate, and covers most of the body, thick enough to provide resistance to bullets or even outright deflect them if they hit at the wrong angle. The plating is thicker around the vulnerable parts besides the joints, so as to ensure that it won't be easily penetrated. The suit can either be worn with a full helm for maximum protection at the cost of vision, or a coif for lesser protection but unobstructed vision.

Avalanche-armored men will make for strong pointmen when we enter Harren, able to clear buildings and assault enemy entrenchments fearlessly compared to unarmored men and capable of carrying even heavy weaponry on their own to support their squads, as the need arises. They will be able to go places that our armored sleds cannot go or that we cannot bring heavy weaponry to with speed, providing a strong advantage in close combat. When we beat Abbera past Harren, they will serve to provide mobile covering fire for assaults or lead the charge in trench clearing as we take the fight to them. Should we be put on the defensive they can still provide strong support.

Reposting the Avalanche for reference. Any thoughts on things to add to it? Taricus mentioned considering an exoskeleton of some sort in discord.

The Avalanche wouldn't strictly have to beat their paladin suit 1v1, given the extreme costs of the paladin. But rather if we aim for a more mass deployable suit we can drown them in a larger number of suits that are both faster and better armoured.

As for the credit, send the engine over. It's the basis for just about all of our gavrilium based tech and would prove highly useful, especially if our allies get a ship-sized version.

Anyways, things that I think we should consider designing this turn:

>Field gun, for anti-armor and anti-fortified position and to get Madman to shut up about it :p
>Better aircraft, such as Jilla's suggestion - we didn't see an aircraft, not even one looking at us. We might have an advantage there.
>Power armor for reasons discussed at length. I am open to suggestions for adjustments to the Avalanche.
>Semi-automatic main rifle, to match their one. Probably still keep the senapang in service for longer ranges though.

One of those latter two should definitely be our research credit design unless someone else has ideas for it. I also think that in the revision phase, we should consider anti-armor rounds for the senapang or other things as one of them.

ArV 13 Tortoise With the advent of armoured vehicle becoming far more commonplace (in that they exist), the Tortoise offers us a powerful too for breaking through enemy lines. Armed with a G3-12 in a powered rotating turret at the top of the vehicle, the tortoise is considered to be rather lightly armed, but boasts a significant upgrade in mobility and protection; being up-armoured in caelium steel to wade through it's own shots at close range with little impediment, and uniquely, using a pair of continuous tracks to propel the vehicle, making it far less prone to getting stuck while crossing a trench line. Driven by a gavrilium engine to ensure a decent speed and relatively quiet operation.

LMG-13: Deviating from our previous machine gun designs, the LMG-13 makes it's mark by being a squad level machine gun, designed to be easily used in an offensive by our infantry to provide extra firepower in an assault. Using a cutting-edge gas operation reloading system and a 30-round detachable magazine, the LMG-13 is easily portable (by machine gun standards and gives our riflemen some much-needed firepower at range.

Some slight revisions to my power armor design, although I think we should wait to the next phase and design it with our research credit because we'll have one more design phase before proper combat.

Alternatively, if a heavily fortified position must be taken (and not shelled into dust), a team of these armored men ought to be a strong spearhead.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

I concur that we should wait on the armour till we've that research credit.  Also, right now I think our roofed sleds kinda cover the powered armour slot for strategic deployment.  Least as I see it.  I 'unno though.  I do like the look of that airboat as well...

Anyways, someone had mentioned earlier that infantry combat oft comes down to cover and concealment.  And it looks like they've wili-petes, which means concealment.  I'm suggesting then that we take over a monopoly on Cover.  I mean, they've cheap machineguns.  Things'll be rough out there.  Flood our end of the battlefield with Cover and devise something that puts a shell on the other side of any barricade they put up.

The combat engineering kit is, essentially a way to make our Mountain Men a viable force multiplier on the front lines and take full advantage of it's capabilities.  Consisting of a giant tower shield, or more correctly, pavise of steel, design to be braced against a shoulder and held with one hand allowing the Lifting Suit to march undaunted in combat, completely protected from the front.  I'm thinking a slight bend to the shield to influence deflection up or to the sides rather than penetration, with downward slope that deflects up we'd need additional metal stands down the side, that we might link multipule pavises side by side or at 90 degrees to create an instant barrier that could be left for our standard infantry.

By not trying to cover every bit of our suits and not caring about the mobility of our armour, since it's not designed to move, we can make a thicker an better shield against bullets able to stand up to our own machine guns, without any need for weaker moving parts.  Sure it's only pointed forwards, but then that just means all the armour is at the front rather'n be spread out.

Now, note how I said, Combat Engineering 'Kit'?  The whole point of this would be to allow our men to advance and entrench in a combat situation, to this end I suggest we enhance our classic entrenching tool to stand up to the rigours of use our new lifting suits can supply.  Too many have broken due to the increase demands a greater strength requires.  To this end I believe an enlarged entrenching tool built of this new lighter than steel alloy would serve admirably, perhaps with sharpened sides, that they might be used like battle axes in one hand or two, should the occasion require it.

Now, even improving upon the classic shovel is not quite fast enough, so I suggest we supply our Combat Engineers with a dozen explosive charges attached to stakes, that they might be hammered down and blast open the ground in order to rapidly entrench.  Add in the detonator, then of course to round it out I'd suggest a supply of empty burlap sacks, for the filling with soil and fortifying the new entrenchments.

So, to summerize, I suggest a giant barricade of metal able to be moved only due to the strength of our suits but also able to stand freely, A lighter than steel entrenching tool that can double as a battleaxe, a dozen explosives meant to be hammered into the ground to blow starting entrenchments, a detonator for said explosives, and a dozen large sacks or so to turn into big sandbags.

With the advent of the Mountain Man Lifting suit, and in preparation for our march on Harren, it's high time to work on securing a man portable answer to fortifications and Armour.  To that end we've looked not only at our venerable Senapeng, but also at our Scylla trying to find a middle ground, whilst also drawing inspiration from our new engines, of all things.

The Devastator is a 25mm cannon meant to be used in a direct fire capacity.  A scaled down, reworked version of our Scylla with most of the design change revolving around a simple, if elegant system of using pistons and compressed oil to draw out the recoil so as not to break our Soldiers using it.  The main gun would be set on rails and rollers, whilst the end is attached to a piston immersed in oil to use the compression to absorb the recoil, and we are hoping even apply back pressure to rapidly set the gun for reloading and refiring.  If we've time we'll look into a small internal magazine.

The whole ensemble would be housed in a case with two handles meant to be held against the Mountain Suit's waist, the soldier standing parallel to the gun to help absorb recoil by rocking with the shot.  A firing stud placed on the handle to replace our classic lanyards.  Of course, should we be able to make the gun as accurate as our other weaponry, we are hoping for a slightly slower firing over the shoulder option for better accuracy at longer ranges than the planned city fighting.  Of course we'll also include a simple stand so our normal soldiery can set up emplaced versions, should they desire it.  The original firing design however should allow for our soldiers maintain the edge of cover whilst rotating the barrel out in the open to fire upon whatever strong point we need to clear before rotating back in cover to reload.  I suggest we issue them with handheld mirrors to facilitate aiming from a covered position.

To ease up on the weight requirements I suggest using our New Alloy for the case and roller system, leaving the gun itself normal steel so the weight helps with the recoil.

Altogether we're hoping for a weapon with enough force to burst through a fortification, building wall or sheet of armour before exploding, perhaps with a slightly delayed impact fuse.  At worst, we get an easily displaced field gun, at best a hand held answer to their Armour.  I envision great things for the Devastator.

I also Vote for plan B, Evacuate the City.  I want our army to be able to demolish the city as needed without having to worry about innocent casualties.  At worst, the enemy has time to entrench their side and we've most of the city as ours.  At best, they rush in and We've plenty of opportunity to show our superior technology as we destroy Harren one block at a time.
