Overrun by nobles
« on: December 12, 2018, 04:03:25 pm »

After creating many worlds to try to find an ideal embark, I finally got one. And to make it even better, the largest dwarven civ was pretty close to the site, so I started with that civ. within the first year, I got notifications that a couple of my dwarves were made barons and one a count. Clearly something happened to the other sites, so I took a peak. The only civ my civ was at war with was a human one with 2 hamlets and a town. But I was shocked when I looked at their one town, as it had over 4000 people in it. Largest I have seen outside of goblin dark fortresses. They kept conquering my civ's sites, and now I have 8 barons, a count, a sheriff for some other site, and a diplomat, and apparently the liaison is a champion. Now my fort's goal is to turn the tide of this war and bring glory back to my civ, which is admittedly difficult to do if my military dwarves I am training keep becoming nobles.

The situation has worsened. The trade liaison spent a few months at my fort, and while he was here wherever he came from must have been conquered because now he is a mayor.

Train the nobles in military combat. If they want their stuff back they can earn it.

Wish I could, but barons and counts cannot be put in the military.

That sounds strange. Were not profession of nobility, a professional soldier? I guess this is a bug.

Your site dwarves shouldn't be elevated to other fortresses jobs and if they are, then they should pack and leave your fortress asap. Unless they get visitors tag, but then you should be able to put any visiting nobles, like all regular mercenaries, into your fortress squads. Odd.

For whatever reason I cannot always assign a noble to a squad, but eventually it let me. Now I have a squad made entirely of barons with swords.

I'm pretty sure some nobles can be soldiers but not military captains.
