And Boldy We Stride (SG)

2045.

The End Year, as the media calls it. Humanity is on the brink of collapse and dying civilizations vie and fight for the last scraps of resources available to an exhausted, crippled Earth. Rampant industrialisation, a disregard of pollution and the occasional nuclear conflict has drained life from the surface and turned the already dwindling freshwater supplies mostly toxic.

It's clear, it's going to end sooner rather than later.

But not all is lost. While Earth will go dormant, maybe for millions of years, it will bear life again eventually. Humans will, however, be not part of this revival. We? We will die out if we do not leave.

Thus, a group of scientists, more enlightened soldiers and officials have created an Initiative, subverting their governments and institutions to evacuate Earth rather than focussing on depriving others for their resources and food to prolong the inevitable.

This clearly make this whole undertaking less than legal and rather small on scale, but needless to say, the Initiative might be the last hope for Humanity's continued existence. If not on Earth, somewhere else. Somewhere habitable and prosperous, for society to grow once more and maybe learn out of its mistakes.

This is only possible by a discovery in the Antarctic dating three years back. Two strange rings with glyphs attached to it, composed of a material clearly not human-made and from unknown elements alloyed in a lattice that suggests enormous amounts of energy and pressure have tempered and stabilized these materials into this structure.

Further testing revealed that this ring, if fed appropriate amounts of energy, can connect to other such structures to form a stable Einstein-Rosen-Bridge for an unknown amount of time. Initial testing, using most of the energy production of an Antarctic research base and the two rings placed on either side of the continent, suggested about six seconds of time. The second test had the bridge be connected for whopping eight when two more outposts pushed their energy production to maximum for the experiment.

Alongside the rings were a database composed of these glyphs, which has been translated by Initiative researchers by now – an address book. The theory is that an ancient alien civilization has used these rings for personal transport.

The goal became more clear when another planet has been identified, with the help of the address book, as habitable by human life and particularly lush and untouched. It was a “resort world” of some sort, used for recreation and largely untapped due to this.

The energy requirements for a jump, however, would be staggering. The planet is thousands of lightyears away. A jump can only be possible for mere minutes when tapping into the entire global energy production of Earth, a plan set in motion already long ago and soon (relatively) to be completed.

In these few seconds, the Initiative has to deliver enough personnel, material and support through the gate to allow stable and continued colonization of this new home world of Humanity.

The goal is clear. Project Endgame will subvert and enslave the global energy production for a vital hour to power the Einstein-Rosen-Bridge and send a colonisation force through it. In these three years to accomplish the global subversion solutions and qualified manpower need to be drafted and procured to ensure optimal conditions for this task.

This is the End of Earth.

We must survive it.

At all costs.

Opportunities

Subvert American General

Subverting an American general will give us vital intelligence into the military-industrial complex of one of the biggest countries of the world, which also happens to be one of the most armed countries of the world. It will give us opportunities to arm up our force with something more than sub machine guns sourced from the defunct GSG9.

Source Swiss Engineers

A group of Swiss Engineers are vulnerable to extraction and it's believed that they are sympathetic to our cause. Acquiring skilled personnel in construction and industrial machinery would be a undebatable boon for Project Endgame, as well as any colonisation effort.

Raid Area 51

While this a rash move not quite in the style of the Initiative, the rings show that alien technology is very much real. Maybe the rumours about aliens and greys being put in Area 51 are true after all. There is a window of opportunity here to strike the base with our forces and turncoats and find out ourselves if there is something worthwhile here.

Headhunt Volkswagen engineers

Volkswagen has been recently nationalised by the New German Republics to produce advanced armoured vehicles for their forces tied up in the Balkan War. Maybe an alternative employment here in the Antarctic would suit them more, where they can contribute their locomotive design abilities to a better use.

How much time do we have to take advantage of these opportunities?

Some remain, some will go. It's random. But they won't stay for more than two turns.

My plan:
Subvert American General

Source Swiss Engineers

Raid Area 51

Headhunt Volkswagen engineers

basically these opportunities seem useful. I want to look into how to set up industry and spacelaunch capability on the new world quickly later, and think that the engineers would be helpful in this regard.

Subvert American General

Source Swiss Engineers

Raid Area 51

Colonization Planning - We must create an entirely new economy, from nothing, with only what supplies we can carry with us in one trip. We must be able to re-create every little component required for modern technology, or the entire chain collapses. And it must be robust. We cannot allow ourselves to get there, only to realize that a critical piece of manufacturing equipment is hardwired to use a piece of proprietary software, which needs to phone home, and we have nobody on-hand trained in this software.

Researching this early will give us plenty of time to efficiently create the best colonization package possible, and entice the necessary expertise to our cause.

Agreed. The American General is priority 1, though... When the rest of the world catches whiff of this place, DAMN we gonna get our asses raided. We need guns, now.

Subvert American General

Source Swiss Engineers

Raid Area 51

All +1.

I think having the one set of engineers is sufficient for now, especially if a better option than the car guys comes along in a later opportunity. I'm not sure if having a colony planner is redundant, as that seems to be what we're doing here. So here's my proposal:

Project: Genetically Modified Bio-fuel Corn.
When we travel to another world, two things are going to be of upmost importance: food and energy. This helps cover both. If the Americans had one thing right, it was that corn is the crop to go with. This genetically altered strain of corn is modified to be processed into large amounts of biofuels, be tolerant of a wide variety of growing conditions, and have increased grow time. While it's not the most delicious corn you'll ever eat, it'll fuel your body and your generators.

seems to be the Modus Operandi. You just have to agree on a project now.

2045, Spring

Opportunity Results

Subverting the general has been proven difficult. His family has been well protected and extraction teams have been shot before even coming close to his daughter. Investigation of the attempted raid are underway and run in danger compromising local Initiative cells, which led to operations being on ice for the time being. His family has been extracted to a location unknown to the Initiative.
An alternative approach has been taken in the end, going sideways with the failed raid and reworking the failure as a false flag operation, blaming south american cartels as culprit. Narcoterrorism stories have been sowed in social media platforms and we have approached the general in a private fashion, posing as like minded people against the threat of rising narcoterrorists.
We have military budget funds funnelled to us now through a puppet PMC, part of which is diverted to actual terrorists to keep the conflict simmering for a while as we extract weapons and trained personnel out of it. Not the best way to deal with this situation, but sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.

M16s obtained!
Light Support Weaponry obtained!

The raid on Area 51 has been much more successful. The infiltration team has successfully implanted itself in the guard protocols of the site and have identified a window of opportunity long enough to successfully extract any technology able to be disassembled and transported for entire hours. The takeover of the base has been quick and relatively bloodless as the moles disabled the armoury and rendered most personal weapons useless. Most guards surrendered on the spot indeed.
However, the guess that there is alien technology in Area 51 has been proven wrong. There is no such thing going on here. Seems like it was, after all, just a test site for experimental aircrafts and weapon systems. We have secured most of the data and a prototype SVTOL fixed airwing craft called “Honey Bee”, which seems to strive for ease of manufacture and dart-like profile.

“Honey Bee” Prototype obtained!
Project : Encrypt Area 51 data obtained!

Sourcing the Swiss engineers has been even more easy. All it took was approaching some of them in private and discussing the state of the world and politics. Quickly it became clear that they are, too, very dissatisfied with how Humanity is slowly sliding into oblivion without any hope of working together as governments are too short-sighted to see the benefits of working together. Word of mouth spread amongst friends and colleagues of targets and a small team of engineers has been ferried to the Antarctic without much of a fuss. They now are in the Initiative base and are already expanding it, as well exploiting untapped resources in the permanent ice. A sad fact we have to resort to, for the sake of Humanity.

Small Engineering Team obtained!

Projects

Project GENESIS has been created to tackle the problem of forging an entirely independent supply chain and economy from nothing while completely deprived of outside help. For this, every single piece of production has to work upon arrival in a robust and locally supplied fashion.
Approaches to this is compiling own proprietary code and blueprints for everything deemed essential and inventing production methods to accomplish this goal even without much skill or knowledge. For this, a library is planned in which everything is catalogued, explained and accessible, written in easy, modifiable code. A gargantuan task, especially as it combines industrial, informatics and physical sciences on a quite unprecedented scale. This GENESIS library and a stock of GENESIS-brand supplies needs to be transportable and act as spore for essential industries on the new home planet.

Preliminary research into the project has shown that the “Honey Bee” seems to be a good basis for standard parts of colonist vehicles, as they are constructed to be as robust and easy to manufacture as possible.

Opportunities

Support Saudi Arabian Royal House

While the oppressive regime of Saudi Arabia seems to come to an end, prolonging their regime might be of use for us, as they are willing to support us in return. Totally dedicating their entire energy structure could lead to 30 more seconds of bridge time – which could result in vital time to funnel resources to the colony.

Support Arabian Spring

On the other hand, supporting the demonstrations and rebel regime will lead to reconstruction efforts by other nations who will vie for the oil left in the countryside. Funnelling construction stockpiles will be a significant boon for early construction efforts and maybe aid Project GENESIS as well.

Cripple Chinese Communication Networks

Inserting a team in the network hubs of the Chinese government and crippling their systems will lead to valuable intel on their communication protocols and technology, which is, at the current state of the world, one of the best globally, if not the best. Their data transmission, omission and curating is cutting edge. A smash and grab would serve our purposes to obtain proprietary software all over the globe, which would aid Project GENESIS.

Infiltrate SIS

Also known as MI6, the SIS holds valuable intel on many foreign country officials, which could be used to bribe and coerce them to embezzle resources for the Initiative. Striking at an intelligence agency, however, will be a risky approach, similar to subverting the general. It could lead to failure and consequence for the world and our Initiative. However, it could prove invaluable to know what the “enemy” knows.

How's the state of fusion technology? Do we feel we're close enough to try for a working fusion reactor to power the bridge?

Is the 12 turn deadline a hard line, or can our actions shift it to either side?

Fusion technology has been considered, but you are not aware of any application beyond the theoretical.

For all intents and purposes, 3 years is all you got. Well, 2 years and 9 months now.
