Looks good to me.  Let's take the middle path so that we can respond quickly to any of the other groups if they have difficulty pushing forward.

We can be just behind the Thornton men using fire, literal fire, to support.

+1

Requisition like five old las-pistols, if we can-- for burners. We can use our SMG for the grunt work, and pop Overloads at anything that gets too close.

Maxwell shakes your hand before you make your departure from his command building. Your officers, including William, await you outside, and you deliver your commands firmly, and calmly. If they have issues with your command, they don't express it. Major Anderson asks for permission to speak, and you grant it. "When are we moving out? My folk are putting up tents already near one of the wells. I would recommend a night of rest and organization, and we head out in the morning, but its up to you, Mother Alphira."

A rest after a day of marching would help the men fight better.  We should utilize scouts and guards, if we did decide to rest, as the enemy could easily attack us while we are sleeping.  It could be risky.

"Of course-- t'would not do to fight a war with heavy eyelids."

"Set in place the necessary scouts and night-guards for the preclusion of ambush. We fight tomorrow morning."

"Yes, Mother Alphira." The two majors bow out, taking their associated retinues with them. William watches, a bemused smile on his face. You pull aside one of the younger ones and order him to provide you with five las-pistols, of dubious quality. He looks confused, but complies, hurrying off to do so.

"I'm not going to bow, Phebe," He states, walking away. "I'm taking the center with you. Someone's gotta watch my little sister's investment."

You return to your tent to find it assembled, a young man in front, keeping sealed bowls of nutrient paste warm in his coat. He brings them out to you, bowing his head and fleeing without a word. Shrugging, you head inside. At one point, they had a camp-stove in your room, that the younger officer stoked to keep you warm at night. You didn't need it, however, as even the creeping cold of the coming winter didn't bother you. It now sits, unused, in the corner, with a stack of papers haphazardly perched atop it. Discipline reports, repair requisitions, other useless information that your Major's feed you to keep you busy.

You eat in silence for a while, until William announces himself at your tent's entrance. "So, we're going to be fighting side by side, Phebe. You looking forward to it? I know I am."

"It should be glorious.  Will this be your first time testing out your enhancements in a real battle?"

"Against the plague, yeah. We had a bit of encounter before with some angry outlander prospectors, but I wouldn't even call that a fight." William's lips curl into a frown, "Is this your first time going up against the plague too?"

"I've gotta say, I'm impressed with how far you've risen in SEED. But I guess unnatural powers will do that for you. What're your plans for after the war? Y'know, if we don't all die horribly."

From outside your tent, you hear cheering. The camp suddenly rises into motion. William glances over his shoulder, grinning, "I guess they opened up the wine and beer rations."

Hmm.  I'm not sure what to say.  I'll wait to see what others suggest.

How about:

"Maybe I'll settle down and retire from the church.  It'll be nice to be at peace.  How about you?"

Also, a small proposed change to our role: we could use the cutter to cut down any enemies that make it past the shotguns to melee range.

+1, I don’t think he told us not to, just told us that cutters are effective
